Centrally located in San Francisco, this sunny and warm 2 bedroom 1.5 bath flat is on the second floor of a 3-unit Edwardian home. The building was built in 1908 and is one of the original houses in the Cole Valley/Parnassus Heights area. The flat has been remodeled for a modern interior feel with some period detail left to preserve the beauty of the era in which it was built.
The flat has a private entrance. The flat comfortably sleeps 6-8 people and is perfect for a family or friends traveling together. The living room has a working fireplace for the cooler San Francisco evenings and a flat-screen television with cable and DVD player. The master suite has a queen size bed with a private working fire place and a television with a built in DVD player. The second bedroom has a full size bed and private bath access. The living room has a comfortable queen size sofa bed along with a full sized futon. Linens and towels are provided. Wi-Fi access is throughout the flat.
Further Details: There are hardwood floors throughout the unit. The flat has a large gourmet chef's kitchen with brand new appliances, pots, pans, dishes and cutlery. The kitchen, formal dining area, and living room can all be connected to make one great room and is wonderful for entertaining. There is a back deck patio that has lots of north facing sunshine which keeps the patio nice and sunny.
The flat is in walking distance to shops, restaurants, and cafes on Cole and Carl Street as well as the entrance of Golden Gate Park (which houses the California Academy of Sciences, the deYoung Museum, the Botanical Gardens, the Conservatory of Flowers, and the Golden Gate Park Children's Playground). It is also walking distance to UCSF's Parnassus Campus. We are also a short walk (9 blocks) to the famous Haight Street where the Grateful Dead and other bands made famous in the 60s and 70s. The flat is also 8 blocks from the Castro district.
In addition, the home is 5 blocks to the N-Judah subway/MUNI line to go downtown to City Hall, the Asian Art Museum, the Opera House, Davies Symphony Hall, Union Square, the Ferry Building, the Financial District, South of Market or to AT& T Park (home of the 2010 World Series winners, the San Francisco Giants) or to even go to the Cal Train (for Silicon Valley or the Peninsula). You can also take the N line right to Ocean Beach where some of the greatest surf is enjoyed year-round. The 43 Bus line (4 blocks away) can take you to the Marina district or Pacific Heights. The 37 Bus at the corner of 17th St and Cole also gives access to other great San Francisco neighborhoods such as Twin Peaks where one can enjoy panoramic views of the entire Bay Area.
A car is not necessary to stay here. However, access to the 101 or 280 highways are both only a few minutes away and the Golden Gate Bridge and Bay Bridge are both only 10-15 minutes away by car.
This lower unit near the H/A area was perfect for our family Christmas get together. The rooms were spacious and comfortable for our family gatherings, especially the dining room. The kitchen was adequate for all our cooking needs. Master bedroom was large and having two bathrooms worked out well 😉Had trouble finding the informational book on the house/neighborhood and when we did it could use a little updating.
Would definitely recommend staying here as neighborhood is quite and near the H/A area and shopping.
We really enjoyed staying in this lovely apartment. It is clean, better than described, well equipped, spacious and in a really nice neighbourhood. It is convenient for all public transport. Joy was easy and pleasant to deal with. The folder with information about local amenities was very useful. If you want a great tour of SF we also recommend Urban Trek USA for a personalised and informative walking tour. Our party of six would happily return to Joy's apartment. The only small thing is that some of the mattresses are due for an update otherwise this would definitely be a five star review. Everything else was fantastic, a really great place to explore San Francisco from. Thanks Joy
I stated at this flat with my four friends for the Outside Lands music festival and we were far fromcimpressed. First, it took at least 20 minutes to figure out how to get the door open. The next day we discovered the door knob has to be in a certain position in order for the second lock to turn costing us another 15-20 minutes. Then, we discovered the handle to the hallway closet comes completely out of the door. Also when we first arrived we found four opened frozen water bottles in the freezer, and butter and cheese in the refrigerator. The kitchen was clean and the counter tops were wiped down but the floor was dirty. I slept in the smaller bedroom and found a bunch or wires coming out of the wall. In the bathroom next to the small bedroom the toilet seat was broken. The microwave makes very loud bang sounds when used and it was failed to mention that the washer and dryer were meant to me shared with others so you can imagine my friends surprise when he wanted to wash his socks but couldn't due to it being occupied. There are also many scrapes, holes, and marks on almost every wall and what appears to be rotting over the entrance to the shower. Now, in total there were 5 people staying at the apartment. Two women and three men. We decided to use the bathroom closest to the small bedroom for the women and the one closest to the door for the men. On the information page of this website it says that both bathrooms come with one shower in each but what we found was just one shower in the entire flat. It too says on the information page that there was off street parking with we could not find at all. Also, we were left with one extra roll of toilet paper for five people. Over stalked fridge, under stalked bathroom. Also it appeared that this apartment was used as storage.
Also, no one came to meet us when we first came to the flat and when I emailed Joy with questions and to let her know about the problems we found, she did not respond. So to answer the following questions:
1. Was the listing description accurate regarding the location, layout, amenities, etc? No absolutely not. 2. Was the property clean and well maintained? No. The kitchen counters were the only thing that looked like it had been cleaned. I am even wondering if the owners even check on it.3. Did the owner or manager provide good customer service? No. It seemed like after my friends and I paid, that was it. 4. Would you recommend this property to a friend or relative? Never.
We found the location in Cole Valley fantastic - the apartment is close to Cole Valley and the Muni train, and just a short walk to UCSF, Golden Gate Park, Haight St and other key locations. We loved visiting the Cole Valley area and found it had everything we needed - the grocery store was excellent, there are lots of speciality stores and there is a great cafe (the Boulange) and wonderful restaurants (Zazie was a favourite).
The apartment is very well equipped and we found everything we needed had been anticipated. The dining area is very sunny and the rooms were always warm when we came back from UCSF in the evenings - this was really nice as San Francisco can be cooler, even in the summer! Joy and her family were very thoughtful and kind during our visit and we would happily stay in the apartment again. The apartment was very clean and tidy and we felt at home immediately.
The only minor points we'd note is that people with limited mobility might find the walking up to 17th street a challenge, though those who like a short climb will love the location. We weren't used to having people live above us so found we noticed the upstairs noise when we first arrived, though we soon got accustomed to this and found the overall location very quiet and peaceful.
Overall, we loved our stay here and would happily recommend the apartment to others.
We had a very lovely stay and will definitely come back. Very convenient for public transit, but also no problem with parking. (If you have a friend who lives in SF, helpful to get a visitor parking permit, so you don't have to worry about moving your car to comply with non-resident restrictions on some of the side streets.)
Great eateries and neighborhood stores within easy walking distance.
Joy is very accommodating and responsive. The kitchen is well equipped. The rooms are spacious. Very appreciative of the firm day bed in the living room. Central A/C is fantastic -- both heat and cooling.
The only small negative is there are no shades in the dining room. During the day it's bright and sunny. But feel there's no privacy and a little "exposed", particularly at night.
Nevertheless, I would recommend this place highly.
We love this spot and keep coming back!! As they say, "it's all location, location & location". Convenient to the N.Judah line, Golden Gate Park, Cole Avenue retail and eateries, this apartment has it all.
Having stayed several times, we find this spot comfortable, spacious, fully equipped and
has the most accommodating of home owners. You can't go wrong staying here!
