A raised wood-burning fireplace is the literal centerpiece of the Great Room with cathedral ceilings, skylights and large windows providing exceptional light and views of the surrounding woods. The open kitchen and dining area are on the back side of the chimney making everyone feel together on the first floor.
The first floor also features a full bath, master bedroom with sliders to the back deck, and playroom with sleeper couch. The playroom is stocked with activities and games for grade school kids and adults.
Off the main dining area is a light-filled and newly renovated sunroom that leads into a screen porch with dining table.
The highlight of the back yard is a large deck that runs the length of the house, including a dining table that seats 6 and a large gas grill.
There are two bedrooms on the second floor as well as a second full bath. One bedroom includes a Queen bed and the other 'kids' room has two single beds.
This past summer, we replaced all the windows with premium Anderson windows as well as the sunroom and screen porch roofs.
There's a premium all-wood swing set with an elevated, covered 'tree house' tucked along the tree-line on one edge of the backyard. There's also a fire pit area with Adirondack chairs in one corner of the yard, adjustable height full-size basketball hoop in the driveway and several gardens throughout the property.
The washer and dryer are at the base of the steps in the full-size and well-kept basement. There's also a second refrigerator in the basement if needed for extra storage.
Our home is off the beaten path, but provides quick access to great things to do right in Becket: A wonderful town beach on Center Pond, world-renown Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival, an amazing restaurant called Dream Away Lodge, and the year-round Canterbury Farm offering hiking, snow-shoeing, cross-country skiing and more. There's also a nice town library, arts center, baseball field, horse farm offering pony and trail rides and a hiking trail to the Historic Quarry right up the street. The Appalachian Trail runs through Becket with a few easy access points.
Beyond Becket, the property is centrally located within the Berkshires, and the answer to most 'distance' questions is 'about 20-30 minutes to everything.' For example, Tanglewood is 30-minutes, 'downtown' Stockbridge and Lenox are 20-25 minutes, Lee Premium Outlets shopping is 15-20 minutes, and skiing is 15-40 minutes pending which resort.
My wife is from the Midwest, and I'm from New Hampshire. We met at Syracuse University, and then moved to New York City together where we have been for the past 20+ years. We have two children, ages 9 and 11.
Steve purchased this house in 2006
We rented for long weekends and then summers in many different areas of the Berkshires before falling in love with Becket during a 6-week summer rental. We began looking for a home of our own the following summer, and bought our home in 2006.
My family rented the house for a weekend and wanted something spacious! Kids has enough space to play in playroom and in living room! The house was cozy and inviting and surrounding were just beautiful tucked in the woods!
Interior is just like the pictures and beds were very comfortable! Sunroom as wonderful as well to sit and have coffee and relax. I would have liked to have been able to stay a couple more days and would be a perfect location to hang out and regroup since it is is off the beaten path a bit! (Mind you i booked the property not realizing it was 20 minutes outside of town) the drive into town is quick and straightforward!
This is a beautiful home in the Berkshires. Center wood burning fireplace sets the atmosphere in this rustic pine home. Nice big bedrooms and two large bathrooms. Sun Porch and screened in porch, leading to a large deck. Large eat in kitchen. The back yard fire pit will keep you warm on these cool Fall nights. We had a great time! Thanks for letting us enjoy your beautiful home!

This was the perfect place to stay to enjoy all the Berkshire's have to offer. The house was very clean and well equipped. No wifi though. It was comfortable and very homey. We loved that we could use the fireplace. We would definitely rent it again.
House was beautiful! Area is gorgeous! Steve was wonderful to work with.
Would go back in a heartbeat!
My wife and I just spent a weekend get away at the "Charming Post-And-Beam". This property was everything we were looking for. We can't say enough about this property. It was clean and had plenty of room. Although it was just my wife and I, its perfect for an additional couple or a small family. Steve, the owner was very quick to respond to any questions that I had about the property or the area. He also recommended the Hide Away Lodge for dinner. NOT a disappointment!! It's a must go to destination if staying in the area.
We stayed at this home for a weekend in mid-September. The house was very clean and well kept. Loved the knotty pine, sun room and open layout. Nice to have the large deck and grill for outside activities. Very comfortable with great beds. Landlord was easy to get a hold of and was very helpful with information etc. Quiet, peaceful area with easy drive to Stockbridge / Lee areas. Would recommend this to anyone looking for a family getaway.
