My mom and I stayed in this nostalgic (for us because we are from the east coast) home for the month of July. It is centrally located on the coast and we were able to travel north and south along 101 with ease. There were many highlights ... the grocery store (IGA) was a 2 minute walk and had everything we could need including a very nice deli. Across the street from the grocery was Barnacle Bill's which sold very yummy and reasonably priced fresh seafood. Also nearby was a variety of fast food restaurants. A shopping center with your traditional larger stores was a five minute drive north.

Highlights of the house ... cool, grassy backyard (no fence), open deck with gas BBQ and ocean view (now has a gate at the top of the stairs), new king in master bedroom, comfortable double bunk in second bedroom, nicely remodeled bathroom (extra toilet in basement for emergencies), fully stocked kitchen (lots of nice pots and pans, etc.), flat screen TV with lots of gadgets and programs, comfortable dining area, and more!

The house very definitely has an ocean view - on a clear day (like any coast rental) - not to be confused with a beach view! (That would be closer to the ocean and would cost you double your money.) The walk to the beach was very doable for myself, my pup, and my grandchildren, but not my mom (but she has joint difficulties). Although she ventured down and back up the 50+ steps one evening for a beach campfire!

Some traffic, but the neighborhood in general is quiet and people are friendly. Any time we had a need (which wasn't often), the owner responded quickly. It is obvious the owner is regularly making improvements for the comfort of the guests!

A very nice place to stay

  • 4 of 5

This was a sweet little house in a great location. Close to beach and a grocery store within walking distance. Easy access to !0! but no traffic noise. We stayed for three months with our dog and found the house had everything we could need. The house is in a great neighborhood, good for walking. All in all a great stay.

We had a very nice time. Very convenient location

  • 4 of 5

Would have liked a tv in master bedroom along with a workable one in the guest bedroom. Stairs to cellar were not fun and very awkward. Overall the house was very well equipped and we would not hesitate to stay again.

An amazingly relaxing getaway

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time during our stay, and will definitely be coming back when more vacation time permits.

The surrounding neighborhood is very quiet, and our strolls to the beach were absolutely heavenly. The house itself was charming and well maintained...very cozy, with a nice view. It is handily located near many great shopping and dining options...we particularly enjoyed the numerous antique malls and the nearby casino. As far as conveniences go, a grocery store is located right down the street and the beach is an easy walk. I would definitely recommended this property to anyone looking for an affordable coastal vacation. Simply perfect.

Disappointed

  • 2 of 5

We rented this property for August 2013

!. The walk to and from the beach was difficult at best.

2. The ocean views from the living room and deck were very limited

3. Limited tv channels with no local news or weather

4.There was no Wifi (we didn't think to ask in advance)

5 We could not receive mail due to some Lincoln City restriction

6. We stayed eight nights and left. Vacations are supposed to be fun

Owner's Response: We highly encourage every prospective renter to thoroughly read our listing before booking so they aren't expecting what we don't offer. The listing includes a map showing the distance between the house and the beach. We are uphill from the beach. The first and closest beach access is 5 blocks away and has 50 stairs. If you are physically disabled or handicapped this could be difficult. Most people will have no problem at all with the 8 minute walk and I have had no other complaints. Additionally, the second beach access is a walk-on (no stairs) access an additional 10 minutes away. The ocean view is from 5 blocks away. We thoroughly enjoy the view and colorful sunsets from our deck and living room. At the time this renter booked, our listing clearly stated no cable or wi-fi. Cable, local channels and wi-fi are now available. You can receive mail at the Lincoln City Post Office which is 5 minute drive from the house. We work very hard to be clear in our listing, so that renters feel their expectations were met.

Very Enjoyable

  • 5 of 5

We had a great month. The beach is a few minutes away, and other beautiful beaches are only a short drive. The house is well-equipped and well-supplied. The owner was helpful and cooperative, though we never met her in person. Nearby stores were a plus, as were walks in the neighborhood. Furnishings are fine, though not elegant.

On the downside: we missed wi-fi which required too many trips to a nearby (less than 1 mile) Starbucks. The second bathroom is in the basement, ok only for emergencies. We had guests three times, and the layout can be awkward then (entry to the main bedroom is through kitchen and/or bath), but for the times we were alone, the house was wonderful. I thoroughly recommend it.

Owner's Response: I'm glad you had a great month and enjoyed the wonderful central location of the house! It's cozy and since we allow pets we have gently used furnishings, great for a beach cottage. Thanks for the 5 star review!

Notes:
The U.S. Postal Service will not deliver mail to the house. You can have it sent to the Lincoln City Post Office (labeled 'general delivery' and pick it up there. The Post Office is a 5 minute drive from the house. There is a garage however it is not available for the renters as our classic 1959 beetle, Brunhilda, is in it. Also, the wood stove is not usable due to needed repairs.
