About Michelle and Chris Bridges
Originally from PEI and Nova Scotia, we are a military family currently posted to Petawawa, Ontario. We have long dreamed about having own piece of PEI and are fortunate to have been able to recently make this a reality. We are most at home on a beach and have passed this love to our young children. So, when the opportunity arose to locate a cottage on the doorstep of Thunder Cove beach, it was an opportunity too good to pass up. Unfortunately, because of our location in Ontario, we are limited in our use of the cottage right now, but are hopeful that we can have others fall in love with PEI during a stay at Footprints in the Sand. It is hard not to see the beauty and experience the tranquility of our Island home.

Perfect, pristine and thoughtfully appointed, this cottage is the best beach getaway.
The pictures do not do this cottage justice. It is spacious, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. With two big decks and a huge yard, there is lots of room to play and relax. Both the beds and the big leather chairs in the living room are very comfortable and made for some serious rest and relaxation. The kitchen is very well-appointed and a great size for preparing a small breakfast or a huge feast.
The owners have thought of everything, from toys for the little ones, frisbees for the dog and beach gear for the adults and we felt as if some family member had anticipated our every need.
Last but not least, Thunder Cove is such a beautiful place. From daily walks on the beach, Teacup Rock and the red cliffs, sunsets over the water and spectacular night sky viewing, this was the most restorative vacation we have ever had on PEI.
We found this cottage very comfortable and clean. A lot of detailed attention has been given to providing all the comforts of home and beautifully decorated as well. It's close to the beach, just a nice walk away plus within easy driving distance to several tourist attractions.
Nice and peaceful
This cottage is very close to the beach. It's so beautiful there. We had a great stay. The cottage was immaculate and the kitchen was well stocked with the essentials. The beds were very comfortable too, I slept like a baby every night. Would definitely book here again.
We have loved this cottage so much (we are still here, leaving in 2 days). The listing is very accurate, and the property was very clean, modern and spacious. The owner was very easy to contact and prompt at responding to any questions. The beach is my favourite on the island that we saw (we've been to over 15 on this trip). It's got the nicest dunes, white sand, red sand, and the classic beautiful red cliffs every traveler is dying to see. We came with our 10 month old and the cottage was pretty easy to baby proof too. Out of the 3 cottages we rented on our stay, this was our favourite. Although you do have to drive to the beach (or a 10 minute walk, which is not great with a baby), the drive is down a dirt road, so you don't really need to buckly up because the speed limit is 15km/hour. It's a very romantic little drive, and I loved doing it every time. There is also a little parking spot reserved just for cottage renters, which was great.
LOVED this cottage and will be coming back!
Michelle and Chris Bridges' rental cottage
We recently stayed at Michelle and Chris' cottage in Darnley, PEI. The cottage was beautiful, clean and had everything you would need away from home. All we needed to bring was our personal belongings. The beautiful sandy beach is only a short walk away. In fact you can hear the waves from the cottage. A nice place to stay for a quiet, relaxing vacation. We would certainly rent this cottage again. Michelle and Chris gave us very clear directions and information about the cottage before our stay.

Nice cottage - but construction going on next door
The cottage is clean and has all the amenities and is by wonderful Thundercove beach. Unfortunately, for our last two days there we were awoken to construction of another cottage right beside us at 8am. This went on for our last two full days we were there - til 5pm each day. This was a complete surprise to us and meant no sleeping in past 8am, no hanging out on the deck for meals or anything else, and no afternoon naps - because of the hammering, the circular sawing, the nail guns and the crew radio. The owners said they were not aware of construction set to happen and that's about all they said or did about the situation. We only have one week's vacation per year and paid 1200.00 for the week. To spend the last third of it feeling trapped inside the cottage with the windows and doors shut or to leave the cottage until after the construction crew left for the day was a shame. I would certainly check on the construction situation before renting this cottage because other than that, it is a good place to stay in a great location.
We take a great deal of pride in our cottage and what we offer to our guests who choose to stay with us. Because of this we are disappointed to hear that you did not enjoy the final two days of your week-long stay. Builders are not required to provide notification of when they are going to start construction and we also live out of province and are not constantly at the cottage. Therefore, we had no idea that a new cottage was under construction until you advised us. We regret that it was so bothersome to you, but because it is not our property or construction there was nothing we could do to change the circumstances for you. The Island is a wonderful place with so much to offer. We hope that your stay with us doesn't discourage you from returning to the Island someday to explore everything that it provides and hope that if you do return that you will be able to find accommodations that better suit your needs and lifestyle.

A 15 minute drive from the village of Kensington, through the country side and past ocean vistas, you will find Footprints in the Sand. Located in Darnley and on the doorstep of Thunder Cove beach, Footprints in the Sand is perfectly situated to ensure a relaxing and tranquil holiday.
Thunder Cove beach, known to many locals, but not to many tourists, is a largely undiscovered gem. Here, against the backdrop of PEI's famous red cliffs and sand dunes, you will escape the crowds of other more well known beaches. Enjoy sunrise, sunset, or an entire day on the beach, beachcomb for shells and sea glass, play in the waves or walk the kilometers of beach that lies before you. Regardless of how you choose to spend your days, you are guaranteed to fall in love with the stunning beauty and tranquility of PEI.
A short distance from Footprints in the Sand, you will find a general store that stocks basic food staples and toiletries. A bit further down the road, in Kensington, you will find most everything you require, including a grocery store, gas station, drug store, bakery and Tim Horton's, Anne Gallant's art gallery and some restaurants. Also not to be missed while in Kensington is the Frosty Treat, serving some of the best soft served ice cream around.
Also located a convenient distance from Darnley is Cavendish, a tourist mecca on PEI. Here you will find souvenir shops, many restaurants, amusement/water parks (Sandspit and Shining Waters, to name a few) and the ever popular Cavendish boardwalk. If you are on the search for other beaches, Cavendish beach is always lovely, though more crowded than Thunder Cove.
PEI boasts two main cities, Summerside and Charlottetown. Summerside, approximately a 20 minute drive from Darnley, has several full sized grocery stores, chain stores, movie theatre and various restaurants. However, tourists will most definitely want to check out the boardwalk that runs along the length of the harbour, a wonderful place to watch a PEI sunset. At Spinnaker's Landing, also located along Summerside's waterfront, you will find several quaint shops and may be lucky enough to take in some evening entertainment. Summerside is also home to the College of Piping and Celtic Performing Arts of Canada and during the summer months they put on regular performances which are not to be missed.
Charlottetown, PEI's largest city, is located about an hour from Darnley and has all the offerings of a typical city. Walk the quaint streets in downtown Charlottetown, dine on a sidewalk patio, wander the waterfront or take in a show at Confederation Centre. Confederation Centre is home to the long running musical Anne of Green Gables, which every summer delights audiences, young and old alike.
Of course, PEI's offerings don't end there. Head 'up west' and take in the windmill farm and watch the locals, along with their horses, harvest Irish Moss. Or, head 'down east' to visit the many tiny communities that dot the landscape.
For golfers, PEI is a haven with many world-class courses. Darnley is situated close to the beautiful and ever popular Green Gables course, as well as Eagles Glenn and Anderson's Creek. A little further away you will find courses such as Glasgow Hills, Dundarave and The Links at Crowbush Cove, all offering exceptional golfing experiences. Of course, PEI is filled with many other beautiful courses which will delight and challenge you. For those younger or less experienced golfers, about 2kms from the cottage you will find Darnley Greens, a little 9-hole par 3 course, as well as a terrific mini-putt that kids and adults alike will enjoy.
Around every corner on PEI, there is a delight just waiting to be found.....a secluded beach, a picturesque country road, stunning ocean vistas, rolling countryside and ceilidhs. Surrounded by water, you are never far from a beach and all of the water-based activities that go with an ocean playground.......deep-sea fishing, bar clamming, kayaking, boating, snorkeling. Not to mention the endless abundance of fresh and world-class seafood readily available at the Island's many wharves and harbours. PEI truly is one of the most beautiful and peaceful places you will find and it is all made more pleasurable by the friendliness and hospitality of the local 'Islanders'.
