The love of water is what brought me and my husband together years ago as lifeguards and swim instructors in my home town of Hudson, WI. After marrying and moving to Chicago, and then to Austin, TX, we longed for our familes and the excitement and idyllic lake life and dreamed of one day owning our own lake cabin to share with friends, family, and our own children. This dream came true in 2009 when we purchased The Wapo Lodge on Lake Wapogasset, the same lake we spent so many memorable summer weekends as teenagers and young adults. We feel so blessed to be able to spend long summers and snowy Christmas vacations at our 'Home Away from Home'. Our children are creating cherished memories with Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles, Cousins, and relatives living it up on the lake. Our children (and even nieces and nephews) are taking after our enthusiasm for the water and are becoming lovers of all water sports, whether lake or ocean, river or creek! Our hope for our guests is that you will experience these same joys and happiness with your friends and family and cherish the memories for years to come!

This property is a dream come true for us. We are close to our home towns of Hudson and River Falls, we enjoy summer and winter lake activities, and we get to share the beauty of the lake and the country life with so many friends and family.
The breathtaking views of the dark blue lake from our living room window, the sounds of the water lapping up on shore, the crackling of the fire in the quiet evening air, the call of the loons, the sights of eagles soaring overhead, and the noisy chatter of children laughing and playing are just some of the sights and sounds that will touch your heart.
As a customer I wanted to mention a few things. First, putting labels on the drawers and cupboards in the kitchen was a great idea! It was so easy to find what we needed... and it also looks really cute:). Second, the openness of the entry and its closet makes it easy to haul everything in and out and it's such a large, organized place to store coats/shoes, etc. (not every "retreat home" has this and it makes life easier!). Third, your home continues to be an ideal get-away place.... it's homey, cozy, open, warm- you really have done a great job:). Fourth, I saw your Wapo Lodge 5x7 photo card, and that's a great idea too (I think those pictures are also on your website?).... I thought of a few more photos that a scrapbooker likes to see if you are interested?
#1- the workspace.... and yours is fabulous! You need to show it off:)! When I first arrived and saw the tables set up with so much room to work plus that view I actually was shaking my head saying "ya gotta love it"... your home is really set up well as a "working area"... lots of space to work in, lots of space to move around, the open floor plan puts everyone "together" (workers and non-workers get to still hang out together), the natural light, the VIEW.... a photo of the work space from the position of the entry/kitchen table is an awesome sight to a scrapbooker/quilter, etc...
#2- the computer work station... lots of scrapbookers make digital books now, and that area is a nice, large, well-lit space to work in, and having wireless internet is huge. I've heard digital scrapbookers complain that they can't work on their books at stores or on retreats anymore (Archiver's, etc)... but they could at Amery Cottage/Wapo Lodge.
The Difference between something good and something great is attention to detail, and let me tell you, this lodge is all about the details. From the clean folded sheets atop each bed, to the luxury soaps and lotions in each room, the exquisite Pottery Barn decor, and the high-end appliances... this place is a chateau de perfection! If you love to cook like we do, you're going to be obsessed with the stove! I'm writing this review from the screened in porch that overlooks the lake (We cant get enough of the gorgeous view and plush furniture in this room. The view of the sunrise in this room is out of this world so you've never enjoyed your morning coffee so much!) The owners were very organized with our check-in process, everything here is in perfect, working condition (all the way down to the remote control fireplace). They supply so many extra little things that have made our stay extra cozy (ie. shampoos, laundry soap, extra towels, espresso machine, glass tupperware, movies, books, games, wifi, paddle boards, canoes...) I'm obviously an attention-to-detail person and I just cant say enough about how the owners have gone above and beyond to provide these extra luxuries! I mean, I forgot hair spray and I checked under the sink- Boom! They had some right there for me. It is obvious that these people care about their renters and their WHOLE experience. We will come back again and again!!! Its officially our favorite quiet vacation spot. An absolutely flawless destination.
