Construction zone

  • 2 of 5

There is construction to the left of us, construction to the right, and construction directly across the road. Skill saws, loud shouts, and concrete cutters from 8 am until 4, sometimes 5 pm every day we have been here. The noise is constant and we are always in the company of (friendly, but loud) men working. The veranda is beautiful, but the noise and presence of the men is not relaxing. The manager was not aware we had rented all 4 bedrooms when we arrived, and none of the bathrooms appeared to have been cleaned after the last guests (trash in the bins, toothpaste spit on the faucet...). The neighborhood is nice, great view, and we feel safe here. Curacao is lovely. There should be advanced warning regarding construction in the neighborhood, as it greatly impacts the quality of the stay here.

Great property and location

  • 5 of 5

The property was bigger than we thought it would be and perfect for several families due to the separate nature of the apartments. The view was amazing and unobstructed. There was a constant breeze blowing all day and night so no need for air conditioning except to sleep. There was a new air conditioner installed in the master bedroom when we arrived but make sure the windows are all closed. I was concerned it would be musty however no smells whatsoever and the property was very clean. The location was great and there is a supermarket in the hotel Papagayo ( like a whole foods). Nice selection but not cheap. There is a Centrum supermarket which is more like a regular grocery store about 10 minutes away by car. The property has no hot water however water was not cold only room temperature. We got used to it but would have liked hot water. Also there is a cat on the property that is gentle and sweet and people started feeding it so it hangs around and sleeps in the corner of the unit. We had someone allergic in our group so it was nice to have the separate apartments kitty could not get into. Our microwave did not work however the owner was looking into it when we left. There is a charcoal barbeque provided so it is easy to cook meals. You have to go to Piri Piri to eat. Food portions are huge and really cheap. Also there is a little bar called Pirate Cove for a happy hour 5-6 and they have a band at 7 really close by right on the water. Downtown is only 15 minutes by car so easy to get to from this location. Very safe area. Bring bug spray as their mosquitoes come out at dusk and are so small you do not feel anything until the next day. My daughter rode an ostrich close by and the tugbout is only 5 minutes away. Great for snorkeling around at the site to see many fish.

Most amazing villa

  • 5 of 5

The house is very beautiful and the view is amazing.

The villa, towels and beds were nice and clean.

The villa has everything you need to enjoy your vacation to the fullest.

The outside area and the view are amazing and we spend some nice nights enjoying it.

Everything is very close to the villa , stores, beaches , water sports restaurants and so much more...

I would highly recommend this property to people.

We stayed a few times in Curacao but for sure this was the best place for us.

For sure we will go here the next time.

Thank you Dushi Homes and Peter

Is the capital city of Curacao. A much-debated question is when and for whom the city of Willemstad was named. According to one historian, Willemstad was named after Stadhouder (stadtholder) William II. But a second historian, who made a very deep study of Willemstad, thinks that the city was named after Stadhouder William III, who occupied this position in 1672 and in 1688, became King of England.

The naming of Willemstad could have been related to the fact that in 1674, the new West Indian Company was instituted. In 1675 Willemstad was declared a free port in the hope this would stimulate the economy. The free port needed a suitable name that would attract peoples attention. The first time the name Willemstad is mentioned in the archives was in 1680.

Willemstad, capital of Curaçao, is one of the worlds richest cities in culture and diversity. The city itself is actually divided in two sections — Punda and Otrobanda — connected by the Queen Emma pontoon bridge. Both sections provide visitors with duty-free shopping. Willemstad has a population of 135,000, comprising 55 nationalities.

Like Havana (Cuba) and San Juan (Puerto Rico), Willemstad is a typical port town. However, it is one without a hinterland -- focused on trade with the surrounding colonies, mainly the Spanish colonies on the South American continental coast, but also with French and English colonies.

According to a comprehensive survey by the government monument bureau, there are 750 historic buildings in Willemstad alone, which merit preservation. New scaffolding goes up almost every month. Progress has been astonishing in just 10 years and it is likely that, in the very near future, regions of Willemstad will have regained their former splendor
