WHAT TO EXPECT: This light-filled, lower-ground floor apartment with private gated entrance is part of a listed historic building that sits opposite the private garden of Eccleston Square. Known for its diverse collection of rare and tender plants, this garden square surpasses most in London, including the one featured in the popular movie 'Notting Hill'. Everything needed for day-to-day living . . . cafes, pubs, restaurants, supermarkets, convenience stores, green markets, bakeries, health food shops, pharmacies, dry cleaners, and international newsstands . . . are all within a 2-10 minute walk.

PROPERTY DESCRIPTION: Greenhaven is newly refurbished by European architectural & design firms, air-conditioned/centrally heated and fully-furnished with a mix of contemporary and antique décor. By London standards it's very large (600 square feet) and includes living room/dining room area, galley kitchen, bedroom and bath. The apartment is designed with the idea of bringing the look and feel of the garden inside with a calm natural palette sparked by carefully placed bursts of color. Sixteen foot high ceilings and large windows in the main living/dining area contribute to its very open, light and airy feel.

LIVING/DINING AREA: The main living/dining area has a table with seating for four, a comfortable king-size sleeper sofa and armchair with electronic back/shoulder massage unit that lets you unwind after a long day of touring. The furniture is set in front of non-working fireplace and a built-in wall unit/library with a large selection of books on London, as well as English history and culture. Residential design and decor is my passion, and I strive to provide dwelling places that are more expressive, more beautiful than other vacation rentals. I live part-time in all these places. Why Paula Harvan chose Westminster & West End

I've lived in London for a few years, and I wanted to find a location that combined all of its best aspects at my doorstep: proximity to major sites, transportation, shopping, dining, culture and entertainment, but with a traditional London feel. Eccleston Square is it -- with an added bonus: the private garden that's only accessible to residents and their guests.

From the outside of Greenhaven, the view is a scaled-down version of New York's Central Park. You see the upper branches of trees, swirls of clematis, heady explosions of climbing roses and, here and there, the opposite side of Eccleston Square, London SW1 -- one of London's most posh addresses. When you get into the garden, you wouldn't know you’re in the heart of a world-renowned international city. When you smell the flowers and hear the birds sing, London seems to disappear -- yet all of its wonderful sights, sounds, tastes and experiences are right outside the garden gates.

Eccleston Square came about when town planner Thomas Cubitt, who developed it in 1845, had the idea of gathering everyone's back gardens together. Around the periphery, a shady walk takes you though arches of wisteria and clematis. For garden buffs, there are several unique specimen plants, including a handkerchief tree from China -- and art buffs will enjoy the irises, some of which came from Monet's garden in Giverny, France. The Garden Square has won many awards not only for its botanical beauty, but also for its well-integrated features, such as several brick patios, glass conservatory, tennis court, and play and BBQ areas.

Comfortable, Cozy and Convenient

My wife and I just had the pleasure of visiting London (from California) for a week and of staying at this marvelous flat. It was comfortable (spacious), cozy (had everything we needed) and convenient (great neighborhood, and three minutes from Victoria Station). We "tubed" all over the city (all day, every day)...always aware that we had this wonderful refuge to return to. We highly recommend this flat to anyone....and everyone !

Better than we could have imagined!

First, let me say that I have never written a review of a location before because while places were nice, they were not perfect and so I have left well enough alone. However, when you find PERFECTION, you feel a duty to share this little piece of heaven with your fellow travelers!

This property is better than it is described and honestly better than you are imagining. It is beautiful, impeccably clean, and in an absolutely ideal location. The private park is an added bonus that will leave you thinking, "Is this real, are there really places this wonderful to live?" The metro is a short walk away, there is delicious food just blocks away, and a grocery store to pick up anything you might need. The interior is just beautiful and tastefully decorated. This may seem like a minor luxury, but after being on the road for three week and staying in rentals in cities from Switzerland to Paris, this was a welcome retreat. It was our first shower since entering Europe that fit an American's vision of a shower: standing up, water pressure, dual shower heads so you aren't stuck with only the handheld shower head. The bedding was phenomenal, the kitchen was fabulous and the couch was comfortable. My daughters slept on the sofa bed and single nook and felt like little princesses. We arrived and were greeted by the housekeeper and she was so friendly and informative. She is truly amazing at keeping this property in mint condition!

To sum it up, beautiful, fabulous, impeccable, unimaginable, phenomenal, comfortable, amazing, perfect, heavenly...these words don't do it justice. It was the pricier than most places we stayed, but it was the best money we spent on our month-long adventure. I hope to return in the future!

WOW!

Although our family did not get the opportunity to stay in this flat, it certainly deserves a review. Initially, my daughter and I made reservations for this flat, but plans changed suddenly when additional family members were able to join us. Paula and I exchanged many emails prior to the booking . Each email was replied to quickly. Later, when the cancellation was made, Paula handled the situation professionally and was able to refund our initial deposit within a few days. Paula went above and beyond to help us with our situation. Communication through email was fantastic and customer service was phenomenal!

Superior in every way to a hotel

This was my first vacation rental in 51 years and now would have a very difficult time staying at a hotel in Europe now having experienced this option. Spending 5 nights in London required more creation comforts than a hotel room could of provided. For me, having a washer and dryer, fridge and coffee machine were important to me. The icing on the cake was having a separate bedroom and room to move around while home and not feeling you needed to rush out early in morning. The suite is located one floor below main with a narrow stairwell and no lift however you did not get the feel you were in a basement.

Owner's Response: Please note this is lower ground level apartment in a beautiful 1870s townhouse with private gated entrance -- not a 'basement' apartment, as defined by American standards (small windows, little light, shared or back entrance, etc.) Apartments like our's in such a prime London location sell for more than $US 1 million in today's market. Hence, our property is renovated, decorated and maintained to luxury standards. Visitors enjoy a superb guest experience, as confirmed by this and other 5-star guest reviews.

Cozy flat in ideal location

My daughter and I stayed in this lovely flat and it was absolutely perfect! The décor is cozy and comfy, the flat is loaded with amenities to make your stay more comfortable. Paula and her team were great at getting us settled, answering all our questions, and making us feel at home. We had an issue with our set of keys and they handled the problem quickly and professionally. The flat is two blocks from Victoria Station making it an ideal location for sight-seeing. Also, for anyone out there who's apprehensive about riding the tube, don't be, it's really easy to navigate and we found it to be a great way to get around. Even though the flat is close to Victoria Station, the neighborhood is quiet and peaceful. I'd definitely recommend this to anyone traveling to London and wouldn't hesitate to stay again when I return.

Superb Location and the Best Hospitality

What a gem! This superb little flat is London living to the hilt--from the finely appointed decor to every amenity and courtesy that a tired traveller could want. And despite it being so close to Victoria Station, there was no hint of the hustle and bustle on this street.

I loved the convenience of a full kitchen with modern and super clean appliances. The bedroom was warm and cozy and quiet. I visited the garden. It was a delight to see families and individuals reading and escaping to the lawn area. It's a perfect space for meditation, offering plenty of locations if you wish to do a little private stretching and/or yoga. If you are a jogger you'll love the looping gravel path that runs the entire circumference just inside the fence.

Finally I wish to comment about the host and property owners--tops! The courtesy, hospitality and local knowledge offered were invaluable. I felt comfortable, safe and relaxed staying here.
