Overview

About the property

1 bedroom, 1 bathroom

Wonderful, private and cozy cottage up in the forest of Kaloko Mauka ( directly above Kona town!). Situated on 5 acres and 2700 foot elevation, this stand alone cottage is surrounded by beautiful ohia trees and is at least 300 feet from the main residence. The owners live further down on the property. Wild chickens and native birds abound.

Kaloko is a special place with cooler weather than you will find down in town. It's nice to retreat up here after a hot day at the beach. Afternoon/evening rain does occur and it provides perfect sleeping weather. Evenings/mornings in the winter months can be cool, so we recommend light sweaters/socks if you get cold.

We are located on Mount Hualalai right above Kailua Kona. This one bedroom house has a small deck on the front and a larger deck with yard in the back. Nice and secluded. Perfect for the couple wanting a romantic getaway!

10 minutes to the airport, beaches and shops. Hike the mountain trail, birdwatch or just relax on the lanai! .

We have 2 rental homes on this property.: For those families that need a little more room, please inquire about our other vacation rental #186204! We will give families a discount for renting both cabins.

About Caroline or Scott Carson

Originally from Oahu, Caroline and Scott moved to the Big Island in 1994 and started their own vacation rental business in 2003. They are the parents to two children and a menagerie of dogs, cats and hens.

Why Caroline or Scott Carson chose Kailua-Kona

We love the Big Island and Kaloko-Mauka is the most beautiful mountain neighborhood with lush forest. After a hot day in Kona town, nothing is as refreshing as heading up mauna for some cooler weather! Native birds, trails, and acreage gives lots of privacy and serenity.

Peaceful, quiet, relaxing location

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is located in a quiet, lush environment, where you can hear crickets, frogs and birds . It has all the necessary amenities, and is a short drive to beautiful beaches. It was a very relaxing and pleasant stay, as in an oasis of tranquility. Thank you for offering your property for others to enjoy.

Mountain cabin close to town

  • 5 of 5

This mountain cottage is absolutely perfect. It's a short drive to Kona with all the restaurants, but also far enough away to feel like you're staying in Hawaii. It's a cooler temp higher up so it was a refreshing change from the heat of Kona and the beach. The whole cottage was private and surrounded by Hawaiian trees and flowers. The owners had cut fresh ginger and placed them right by the front door so we smelled sweet ginger fragrance every time we walked in or out the door. There are calming jungle noises like gentle rain, chickens, and tree frogs. The amenities are exactly as desired for a mountain cottage- simple and clean. There are body boards, a cooler, and BBQ grill available for use. The hot tub felt wonderful after hiking all day. On the last night we turned off all the lights in the house, poured some wine, and sat in the hot tub looking up at a blanket of stars in the night sky. Highly recommend. Thanks for a lovely stay!

Great location

  • 4 of 5

Thank you for a great stay. The location and setting of the cottage is perfect! It is totally secluded and you feel right in the middle of a forest but can get to town quickly and easily. We also loved that everything for a day at the beach is provided. Chairs, towels, cooler, snorkeling gear, umbrella and boogie boards. They really thought about how to make their renters comfortable. Caroline was great to work with. Very quick to respond to emails and very helpful with any questions I asked. Thanks again!

Clean, well situated. and as represented.

  • 5 of 5

The Kaloko Mountain property is a plesant little cottage nestled in a thick tropical forest. The hot Tub was a hit as was the picturesque linai. All the amenities needed were provided. We stopped in Kona for four days on our way to Kauai. A real nice beginning point to our vacation.

There were several chickens on constant pest control. I judge their efforts a ten. At night the perfect whistle from the Cocqui Frog added to the a quiet evenings of relaxation and was part of a tropical symphony.

quaint jungle bungalow

  • 4 of 5

This cottage was just right for two people. It was supplied with just what one would need to prepare our meals. (suggestion, add a rubber scraper to your supplies). The cottage is higher up the mountain, so in the clouds a lot of the time.

We really appreciated the beach gear that you made available to us. I would suggest you list that on your description of the property, it is a good selling point (beach chairs, umbrella, towels, boggie boards, cooler)
