We have traveled to many different locations across the Caribbean on family and fishing trips and we have never found a more idyllic oceanfront home located on a more perfect secluded beach.
When we looked for a vacation destination, we were looking to get away. We needed down time, and an opportunity to relax and unwind. Paradise Found was exactly all that. A gorgeous location, lovely property, and wonderful, wonderful time!
The owners of the property were friendly and helpful, providing us "first timers" with plenty of guidance and help. The instructions for the property are comprehensive and getting from the airport to Paradise Found was a breeze. Freddy, who assists with check in, check out and other logistics is a friendly local and it's wonderful to know he's nearby to assist if necessary.
The house was extremely well equipped with comfortable furniture, and everything you could need for a relaxing week at the beach. The decor was perfect and we really were at our dream beach getaway! The instructions include detailed info about what to bring with you, and what to buy for food etc right after the airport, so we weren't lacking for anything.
Of course, the best part of it all is that that GORGEOUS beach is not even 30 feet away from the huge glass sliders lining the beach side of the house. Two of the bedrooms and the large open plan living room/kitchen/ dining room have permanent dream beach views. Everything is well-maintained, and there is even an outdoor shower to rinse off the sand from the beach. The wood walkway leading to the hammock and the beach is great, too.
The ocean is perfect, and the clear water (except for the 2 days that Tropical Storm Julia went past!) was perfect for snorkeling and seeing the fish right off the beach. We also saw small sand sharks, large stingrays, a barracuda and dolphins - all in one day! We picked up beautiful shells and fan seaweed off the beach, took long walks and generally had an amazing time. There were a sum total of about 5 people (all locals) who walked past the entire week!
As a professional photographer, I was in my element and plan on doing a blog post with photos soon (you can see it at www.carynscanlan.com/blog when I get around to it :P ) The sea really IS that turquoise, the fish really are that beautiful, and the sunsets are just incredible.
We had the most amazing time of our lives for our "once-in-a-lifetime" vacation, and even though we had said this is our "once-in-a-lifetime" we hope to be back one day!
We recently stayed at this home for our vacation. The beaches, the home, everything was absolutely amazing. I couldn't believe how beautiful and how private the beach was. The house was amazing and well worth it. I have a 3 year old and a 11 month boy and the water was calm and perfect for them. They loved every minute.
I would absolutely recommended this house. Chris was so helpful with the entire process and answering all of my questions.
We all had a wonderful time and the entire experience exceeded our expectations. The home, truck, boat, people were absolutely fantastic and we had no surprises. We were rewarded by tranquil breezes quiet beaches and crystal clear waters.
Couldn't have been better, Chris. Thank You!
My husband and I stayed here for a week for our annual anniversary trip. The location is about 40 miles away from the airport and the center of town but that is exactly what we were looking for. We stocked up on groceries and headed to paradise. We loved the fact that the house is right on a white sandy beach and the only time you will see anyone else on the beach is when the locals are there. The house is beautiful, had everything we needed except for the groceries and was well taken care of. The weather was not ideal (cold front moved in) for most of our stay so we were not able to take the boat out. We were told that there are beautiful coral reefs right behind the house and we were looking forward to exploring them. The locals are all very friendly and we enjoyed interacting with quite a few of them. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and had nothing but pleasant interactions with the owner. We ventured into McCleans town almost daily to get a great meal. My husband could not get enough of the seafood. We inquired at Coopers Restaurant where we could get fresh seafood to cook at home and were informed that they could catch some fresh and have it for us the next day. True to their word, they had fresh lobster for us the next day. We had a fantastic time and hope to return when the weather is a little warmer. We highly recommend the property on Grand Bahama Island.
What a great week! We were looking for a quiet, peaceful, tropical getaway to celebrate our anniversaries. Paradise Found ended up being perfect! Two couples shared the home, so we each got to wake up each morning to a gorgeous view of the ocean 50' from our bedroom sliding glass doors. Then we would spend the rest of the day in the beautiful warm water, on the deck watching the surf, in the hammock watching the geckos and crabs run around, or beach-combing the tidal pools. We also ventured out to the nearby blue holes in the boat for snorkeling and swimming. In the evenings we grilled out or went to the local restaurants, which are great and affordable. It was exactly what we were hoping to experience when we booked this home.
Chris was very responsive in answering our questions as our week approached. He sent a very informative packet of instructions and suggestions shortly before our rental dates. Just to reiterate a few things he will tell you: If able, stop at Solomon's near the airport to get food before you drive out to the house. We picked up milk, water, meat for grilling, and a few other staples so we didn't have to run back in to town the next several days. Food is very expensive here, so be prepared. We brought our own breakfast foods and snacks so we only had to buy dinner foods. We also brought along baggies and foil for wrapping leftovers. The house was well stocked with all the cookware and utensils you'd need to prepare meals.
Two more tips: Tip 1 - Bring bug spray!! You will need it if you spend time outside. The bugs aren't unbearable, but the flies will get you if you aren't sprayed. Tip 2 - if you have room, throw a couple of cheap inflatable rafts or rings in your luggage. We did and they were worth their weight in gold for floating around the water with a cold drink!
Alcohol is available at Solomon's too, though we ventured out to the Bahamian Brewery which has more to choose from and lower prices overall. Rum is a bargain, other spirits are priced similar to the US, and beer is very expensive, even for the local brew (but good).
Be sure to check out the local restaurants in High Rock and McLean's Town. Our favorite food was at EJ's in McLean's Town. Awesome service and the conch balls (not fritters) were fantastic! The cracked conch and lobster were great as well. The best views were at Bishop's in High Rock where you can eat at the bar right on the beach. The prices are fair too - comparable to an
