Incredible Family Vacation
We just returned from a week at Pelican Point. I can not say enough about the quality and location of this property. My wife, 12 year-old son, and I, along with two of my wife's sisters and their husbands stayed in the home. We had plenty of room with the 4BRs, large den, and large kitchen. The kitchen was well stocked with all cookware and utensils needed, and had a large refrigerator. The washer/dryer worked well, and allowed us to pack light for the trip. The air conditioning had no issues keeping the house cool day and night. There were plenty of quality beach chairs and loungers and a nice hammock under the palms. The wooden deck out to the beach stayed shaded by the palms the entire day.
Beach: Water quality was incredible and remained calm throughout the week. It is great for swimming and snorkeling. The sand is clean and the ocean had little to no seaweed/sea oats, unlike beaches in Mexico and Dominican Republic. It was literally like swimming in crystal clear pool water. Great beach for long walks in either direction. Our preference was to walk towards the point (East).
Neighborhood: The Pelican Point community is fantastic. The extended Lang Family (Freddie, Ali, Charlie, and others) are all incredibly nice and helpful. The area is away from the crowds in Freeport and provides a safe and peaceful vacation.
House: Well-equipped with beach towels, bath towels, cloths, hand towels, extra linens and pillows, etc. Beds are very comfortable and all rooms are well-cooled by the AC.
Boat: We used the boat two days during our stay. It started immediately and we had no issues. The truck, while old, was adequate for launching the boat at the nearby boat ramp. Hint: Be sure to monitor tides, as you cannot use the ramp during low tide. With high tide around 1pm each day, this wasn't an issue for a morning launch and pulling it out in the afternoon. We also used the kayak several times during our stay. The calm waters make for ease of use.
Hosts: Chris and Sam were excellent during the booked and post-booking process, providing all the information you will need for your stay, and answering questions immediately through the HomeAway app. The local caretaker, Ali took care of anything we needed, including giving us some lighter fluid and charcoal left by previous guests, so we didn't have to run to the grocery store.
Be sure to bring cash for local restaurants and do your shopping before leaving Freeport, since it is an hour away.
Everything about the house was lovely and just as described! The beach was beautiful and secluded. I think we saw about 5 people on the beach all 9 days. The weather was a perfect 83, sunny with a breeze every single day. Being from Missouri (home of high humidity in the summer months) to have this kind of weather and no humidity (Nov 4-12-2017) was amazing. We enjoyed getting to met the locals and ate with them on most days. Ralph (the Gullywash man) across the way was helpful and gave us lots of information about the area. Met fellow American, Sylvia (retired w/husband living down the beach) from Pittsburgh PA. She also was a friendly face who offered to help with anything we needed while there. Bishop's Beach Bar and Grill was as great as ever!! We always enjoy the food and getting to catch up with Bishop, the owner. Conch and grouper fingers are still the best anywhere!! Snorkeled out to the reef saw several different types of fish including a Barracuda!! Found out later after swimming out quite a ways further we were out where they do a lot of fishing and fighting the sharks for the snapper!! Glad to report we didn't see any but didn't go out that far again, yikes!! Ali's cousin brought 10 large lobster tails for $20 (yes I did say 10 for 20) we grilled out two different nights. Loved every minute. Worst thing about vacation was saying goodbye!!
Paradise found definitely held up to its name, it was truly paradise. Everything in the house was as advertised. The locals of pelican point were extremely friendly and go out of their way to help you with anything you would need. We used the boat several days for fishing, snorkeling and catching lobster. Definitely a bonus with the rental. We also used the kayak for fishing to catch grouper and queen trigggerfish. Paradise found is the place to go if you want to get away from the everyday hustle of life. Chris and Sam were very helpful from the beginning to the end.
Thanks for allowing us the priveledge of staying in your home.
Perfect Island Paradise!
My family and I stayed here this summer and it ranks as one of the top vacation spots ever! The house was beautiful, open and very spacious. Sliding glass doors and full length windows give an unobstructed view of the ocean for the entire length of the house. Granite countertops throughout and open common areas give the house a modern, yet cozy feel. The house was clean and everything was in excellent working condition. A boat and truck was provided as part of the rental fees, providing daily activities on the water for us that we thoroughly enjoyed. The fishing and snorkeling around the coral reefs was amazing! Due to family consensus, we are already planning our vacation next year here!
Peace and Relaxation
This was such a lovely and peaceful retreat - my family and I just loved waking up every morning to the ocean views and walking out to do some beachcombing with coffee in hand. Minimal people around, hammock naps, sounds of the beach...sigh...I want to go back. If you are looking for some R&R look no further than this little slice of heaven. Snorkeling right out front, many shells, and hermit crab entertainment for days!
If you want to be remote......
I looked for a house on the sand, where I wouldn't see anyone and I could completely unwind. I got all of these things in this house......
Overall we had a wonderful vacation and enjoyed our time. The house is very spacious, but the furnishings are quite shabby and need to be updated, as do the bathrooms.
The house is directly on the sand and has beautiful views. The house comes with the use of a boat which I thought would be perfect for our party especially as all three men are VERY experienced boaters. You must note that that the boat ramp which is about a mile or so down the road is VERY narrow, so unless you have a ton of experience backing a boat on a trailer down a ramp, don't even attempt it. Unless the water is perfectly flat it is not possible to take the boat out as it's too dangerous. We were only able to use the boat 3 out of our 7 days which was disappointing as even if there is a light chop it is too harrowing to take it out.
You need to come prepared! There are very few places to get provisions or eat within 15 minutes from the house. We did go to all of the restaurants recommended and they were all fine, but mostly all sold the same fried conch etc. Get plenty of food for breakfasts and lunches. BRING BUG SPRAY. You need as much bug spray as sun screen. The bugs/biting flies are brutal!
We also brought blow up floats with us which was great because we used them a ton of times. There is a hammock outside which was nice.
Again, overall it was a pleasant stay.
Thank you for the review and I am glad you enjoyed your stay. Since purchasing the property in 2014, we have been making constant upgrades to the home, property, boat and truck. Interior upgrades have included granite countertops in bathrooms & kitchen, all new interior plumbing fixtures, sliding glass doors in guest bathroom shower, new appliances, new 5 ton AC unit, new carpet in bedrooms, new mattresses and bedding in all bedrooms, re-upholstered living room furniture and dining room chairs, interior paint, furnishings, etc… Exterior improvements have included a huge newly constructed rear deck, new boat, 13.5’ tandem kayak with seating for 3, sodded yard with irrigation, 2 picnic tables, additional landscaping shrubs / trees, etc… We are constantly working to make the home an exceptional and unforgettable experience for our guests and we hope to see you again in the future. Thanks again. Chris.
Our home is located in the small settlement of Pelican Point on the East End of Grand Bahamas Island and is situated on a pristine white sand beach and 50' away from the spectacular Carribean Ocean!
