Oddny and Ari bought this house 2014. We refurbished the house to make it nice and cozy. We live in Garðabær which is a town close by Reykjavík and have 4 daughters.
Oddny Teitsdottir purchased this cottage in 2014
We bought this house because Oddny´s mum grew up in Vik and we have stayed there allot for many years. Vik is a dear place to us and we enjoy to spend time there with our children.
The house is on the outskirt of the village. The fields are just outside the porch and sometimes the horses are just a few steps away. The beach is also close by which has tremendous magnitude with its black volcano sand on all the power.
The two houses are very comfortable.
Lovely clean property with really well stocked kitchen which made self catering very easy. Perfect location for exploring Vik on foot or driving to nearby attractions- basalt column beach, black sands, waterfalls, folk and transport museum.... From the house you can take a beautiful walk up the headland which rewards you with fantastic views to the east over Vík town and to the West over to Dyrholay headland. Vik is a great stopping point if you are traveling east toward Vatnajokull and Hofn.
Oddny is an easy owner to deal with. Very prompt in communication.
The cottage in Vik is perfect for a large group. The home was clean and had a comfortable living room area to relax after a days hiking and activities. The town of Vik was perfect to stay in too with good restaurants, a grocery store, and good location for lots of day activities. Highly recommend this cottage to stay in if you have a large group and Oddny is very easy to work with. There is also a beautiful black sand beach only a 5 minute walk away from the door step. Thanks for letting us stay and enjoy the town of Vik!
We had a great time in Vik at this cottage. It was especially roomy and comfortable for our group, and the separate cottage out back was very helpful to allow us to spread out a little. It was perfectly situated to see -what I consider the best parts of Iceland south shore. It was clean, had great appliances and services, and Oddny provided us with an abundance of information. A small grocery store in the town was a welcome bonus. We had everything we needed, including the northern lights for two nights. Beautiful home and area, Thank you Oddny.
Owner was very attentive, checked in with us during the stay to make sure that every thing is fine.
We spent few days in this cottage. We were four adults with 2 kids!
This cottage had everything we need. Very clean!
It has been easy to plan our stay with the owners, we highly recommand if you pass by Vik
What a lovely home base. Modest from the outside but so much space on the inside. Oddny was gracious and very responsive when we had questions. The place itself is such a treasure. We were two families of 4 each and had a great stay. VERY close to the black sand beach. Vik was a great base town to explore the Southern coast of Iceland and this lovely cottage was the perfect home base.
All basic service is in Vík like grocery, health care, swimming pool, bank, restaurants and a liquor store. Football field is by the swimming pool (350m), playground for the kids and there is a golf course in Vík.
Places of interest and distances:
Víkurfjara. Only 350m to the beautiful black beach. In 1991, the US journal Islands Magazine counted this beach as one of the ten most beautiful beaches on Earth
The famous Reynisdrangar are pictorial basalt sea stacks situated under the mountain Reynisfjall. Legend says that the stacks originated when two trolls dragged a three-master ship to land unsuccessfully and when daylight broke they turned into rock.
It is fun and rather easy to walk up the mountain Reynisfjall that is just beside the village. There is a road up to the top but it is only for 4WD cars. On the top you can see relics from the Second World War and the view is fantastic where you can see Dyrhóley, Reynisdrangar, Mýrdalsjökull glazier and Eyjafjallajökull glazier. It is also easy to walk over the mountain to Reynisfjara beach.
Reynisfjara beach . This is another beach just on the other side of the mountain Reynisfjall (11 km from Vík). There is a new restaurant called Svarta fjaran (The black beach). It is well worth visiting Reynisfjara beach but be careful not to go too near the sea. It is dangerous.
Dyrhólaey peninsula vest of Vík 19 km.
Seljavallalaug - old swimmingpool 42 km.
Þakgil -the canyon with a roof- 21 km.
Skógarfoss waterfall 33 km
Skaftafell National park 140 km
Jökulsárlón glacial lake 193 km
Reykjavík 186 km
Tax is included in the price.
