Overview

About the property

This sweet one BDRM house in Ballard is full of eclectic antiques and period charm. It has a new luxury king size bed, a lovely garden, and it is perfect for quiet, mature visitors.

This is a cozy house that sits up off the street with a large, with a nice backyard. Please note: there is a totally separate mother-in-law apartment (also a vacation rental) located downstairs. To honor my commitment to my downstairs guests, this listing is suitable for quiet, mature and respectful guests only. It's perfect for those who are looking for charming, comfortable and low-key accommodations or who plan to be out and about a lot. It is NOT conducive to those looking to entertain or have a real lively time of it in their temporary home away from home. Sorry!

Guests have use of the backyard. There is street parking out front, so while there isn't a dedicated parking space for you, there is usually street parking available either directly out front or very nearby.

This house is located in the lovely and quiet area of Whittier Heights in Ballard, situated between three great neighborhoods: downtown Ballard, Phinney Ridge and Greenwood and close to Fremont. The house is within a lovely stroll to award winning restaurants, bars, cafes, bakeries and delis on 70th Street and 65th Street.

I am four blocks from Delancey's (amazing pizza), Essex, The Fat Hen and Honore Bakery. All voted top restaurants and bars. You can even take cooking classes at the Pantry at Delancey (but you must book early because they sell out!). It is a quick jaunt by bike or car to the Ballard Market (a really great grocery store), Safeway and Trader Joe's. Greenlake is a mile away. If you are a runner, walker or blader, you'll probably want to check it out! The Woodland Park Zoo is also close by and Discovery Park and Golden Gardens are also exquisite places to check out and not a far drive.

There is free street parking directly out front. Car-2-Go, Zipcar, Uber and Lyft are also a popular options in Seattle. I am 4 blocks to the #28 bus and about 6 locks from the Rapid Ride D line. Both buses go downtown.

Adorable older house in Ballard

  • 5 of 5

The house was very cute! Host was very organized and provided lots of information up front. We were always able to find a parking spot right in front of the house. Bathroom has a great shower head, lots of towels, a hair dryer, and all traveling needs. Kitchen has just about everything you could need, other than a microwave. Bed was super soft and had great linens. The living room has lots of fun antiques, books, games, records, and more. Even though the house is old, it is very cute and has several upgrades, such as a smart thermostat. It was perfect for my husband and I to stay for a few days!

Comfortable house in nice neighborhood

  • 4 of 5

My in-laws stayed here on a recent visit and were very comfortable. Shannon provided a great house manual that made everything simple from arrival through departure.

Memory Lane

  • 4 of 5

My wife and I recently stayed at Shannon's house and had a very nice experience. We were visiting our daughter, her husband, and our new 4 month old granddaughter in Ballard. If you've never done Ballard, put it on your list. This place provided a little oasis for us to decompress after babysitting all day. You can tell from the pictures that this is a museum of articles from the 40s-70s so we had a little walk down memory lane. The place is clean. Parking was never a problem. Comfortable king size bed. Kitchen was fine although we really never used it. The only criticism that I have is that the bedroom could use better lighting for reading, could use some window blinds, and a coffee maker. Bottom line-Fun place.

Seattle for the holidays

  • 3 of 5

Charming house. The bed and linens are the highlight of this property. We had a great nights sleep every night. The neighbor is very quiet (and we were there on NYE!). Found a parking spot on the street every time we returned but never in front of the house and no more than seven cars away. Had a great time playing records and playing scrabble. Walked to coffee a few mornings. The kitchen has everything you should need while on vacation. Bathroom has a surplus of towels! And the shower is nice and has plenty of hot water. The house does not have a TV, didn't know that until we got there. Did see it noted in one review after we got home. We are not TV people at all, we are radio people. With no tv or radio we missed keeping up with the world while drinking our coffee in the morning and getting ready for the day. Wi-Fi was easy to access and had no problems with speed. The seating and lighting is a little too kitsche-y for reading in this peaceful house. The back garden looks charming even in the wintertime.

Owner's Response: I must say I am a bit surprised by the 3 star review, as nearly all of my reviews are 5 stars on both this site and the other site that I host on. But, I suppose everyone has their own rating system, some people are more particular than others, and some people read the listings more closely than others before asking to book. It's true that there is no TV. I do not advertise having a TV in the amenities section, nor is there one shown in the photos. A radio is a great suggestion. I will look into adding that. There are four lamps in the living room. I read by them all the time. This is the first anyone has complained of this, but duly noted.

comfortable and quiet

This was the perfect place for us to stay for a long weekend visiting our daughter. The house is comfortable, stylish, and well-supplied, including thoughtful, unexpected extras. We hope to stay there again on our future visits to Seattle. Thank you, Shannon!

A great place to stay.

  • 5 of 5

The apartment was lovely and the many wonderful and thoughtful touches supplied by Shannon are too numerous to mention. Being Seattle we really appreciated the umbrella and robes as well as the well appointed and well supplied kitchen and surplus of towels. Everything was clean and comfortable with plenty of room. The backyard was also very nice when the weather cooperates.

Nearby restaurants in Ballard were plentiful and excellent. The kitchen had condiments and equipment so we could cook some meals at home. Shannon even supplied lots of very good coffee and it was great to sit in the morning and have a cup.

We will certainly stay here again next time we come to Seattle.
