Charming 1940 Ballard House

Bedrooms 1
Space 700 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 3 - 4 nights

About the property

This sweet one BDRM house in Ballard is full of eclectic antiques and period charm. It has a new luxury king size bed, a lovely garden, and it is perfect for quiet, mature visitors.

This is a cozy house that sits up off the street with a large, with a nice backyard. Please note: there is a totally separate mother-in-law apartment (also a vacation rental) located downstairs. To honor my commitment to my downstairs guests, this listing is suitable for quiet, mature and respectful guests only. It's perfect for those who are looking for charming, comfortable and low-key accommodations or who plan to be out and about a lot. It is NOT conducive to those looking to entertain or have a real lively time of it in their temporary home away from home. Sorry!

Guests have use of the backyard. There is street parking out front, so while there isn't a dedicated parking space for you, there is usually street parking available either directly out front or very nearby.

This house is located in the lovely and quiet area of Whittier Heights in Ballard, situated between three great neighborhoods: downtown Ballard, Phinney Ridge and Greenwood and close to Fremont. The house is within a lovely stroll to award winning restaurants, bars, cafes, bakeries and delis on 70th Street and 65th Street.

I am four blocks from Delancey's (amazing pizza), Essex, The Fat Hen and Honore Bakery. All voted top restaurants and bars. You can even take cooking classes at the Pantry at Delancey (but you must book early because they sell out!). It is a quick jaunt by bike or car to the Ballard Market (a really great grocery store), Safeway and Trader Joe's. Greenlake is a mile away. If you are a runner, walker or blader, you'll probably want to check it out! The Woodland Park Zoo is also close by and Discovery Park and Golden Gardens are also exquisite places to check out and not a far drive.

There is free street parking directly out front. Car-2-Go, Zipcar, Uber and Lyft are also a popular options in Seattle. I am 4 blocks to the #28 bus and about 6 locks from the Rapid Ride D line. Both buses go downtown.

Unique and fun home in Ballard

  • 5 of 5

When we rented this house in Ballard, we didn't expect it to be one of the things we most enjoyed about our visit, but it was. If you are tired of rentals decorated with IKEA furniture, stay here. The owner has a strong creative talent that she used to decorate this home. We enjoyed playing the LPs while also playing Scrabble and Clue games in the 50s style living room. The house was clean, the bed very comfortable and the kitchen well equipped. The neighborhood was quiet, but close to restaurants and shops. The owner gives extensive information on places to eat. Stay here in Seattle. It's fun!

Cute, querky, perfect for Ballard

  • 5 of 5

Great place for one or two people visiting Ballard. The decor is ... interesting. Shannon is a first class host; responded quickly to all our questions. Will definitely keep this on the list of places to look for when we return.

Overpriced compared to the basic VRBO's we have used in the area. Not enough lighting. East facing window without shades. No microwave, television, or radio.

Owner's Response: Sounds like my home wasn't a good fit for you. Sorry to hear that. As mentioned in the listing, there is no TV or microwave. Some people choose to live without those things and this is a home for those kinds of people. As for not having enough lighting, and too much lighting, I'm sorry to hear that, as well. I warmly conveyed that I was available should you need anything, but you chose to not respond to any messages or take advantage of the opportunity to make your needs known. Best of luck on your future basic VRBO experiences.
