The perfect beach vacation if you like nature

  • 5 of 5

Our family has spent many summer vacations on this quiet lane in Chincoteague since the "children" were little. They are now 25 and 32! However, for the past 10 years our travel has taken us out of the country to many other beautiful places. We had the opportunity to go back to Chincoteague this month and we were so happy we did! Our little family has expanded and we could no longer fit comfortably in the Baywatch cottage so we opted for Baywatch North.

What a pleasant surprise! Everything was perfect. It was similar to the cottage, but even better. There were plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms for us and every room was so well appointed! Jane didn't miss a detail. We had everything we needed. The kitchen was great, dining room and family room were very comfortable. Breakfast on the deck was lovely and without mosquitos!

The house was spotless and, as a clean freak, I appreciated the new soaps in the bathrooms and new sponges in the kitchen. The kitchen had everything we needed to do a lot of cooking, which my kids like to do.

We thought the Baywatch cottage was great for all those years when the kids were small, but Baywatch North is even better for the grown up family. Thanks, Jane for helping to create our cherished family memories.

Best of the Best in Amazing Stays

  • 5 of 5

Love this home!! Right on the water. We stayed in this lovable 5-bedroom cottage and it was amazing. So beautiful and so calm as the sun rises over the island and you silently sip coffee. The grounds are beautiful and very pleasant for sitting and sipping wine on the patio also. The home is set up wonderfully! To clear your mind and find peace this is the place you need to be. The lovely cottage has been recently refurbished it feels like and the grounds are lovely and well cared-for. I can't tell you how much we enjoyed staying in this wonderful home. It had everything we wanted even had a washer and dryer. There were plenty of pots and pans, a nice coffee maker, and even basic supplies such as oil, salt and pepper. The house is not far from Main Street, on a quiet end of the inland and still a short drive to the beach/National Park. By the way park and beach are a must! Just so beautiful!!! When you wake up in the morning you may even find wild horses in the front or back yard of the cottage. It was spacious, warm and inviting. We hope to return again next year and for many years to come. The people are so nice and friendly it just makes you want to spend the rest of your life on Chincoteague Island. Cannot begin to explain the nature views from this house. Love this Island. Love the ponies.Love the people. First pick for a vacation rental home-away-from-home!!!

We love this house !!

  • 5 of 5

This house is very comfortable and beautifully decorated in a casual style with many personal touches - the view of Oyster Bay from the deck is gorgeous at all times of the day. The area near the house is perfect for birding and for seeing the ponies from next door who came to visit us several times. There were 5 of us, all adults with well-developed ideas of what a rental house should be like - we all agreed that this house was the ideal and the standard for others to live up to. The upstairs of the house is set up as a good place for kids as well even though we didnt have any with us this time. The owner, Jane, is lovely to deal with and she genuinely wants her guests to be happy and to have a good time. There's a lot to see and do in Chincoteague and the house is well located for getting around easily to different places. Thank you and we will be back !!

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for your wonderful review and for being such a kind and considerate guest. Now that the temps have cooled down Chincoteague Island and Assateague have take on different vibes which attract photographers, bikers, and hikers in addition to the beach combers... Soon the Thorough Glasswort will turn the marshes red and Thanksgiving is right around the corner. The service road on Assateague is usually open to cars Thanksgiving week so it is a special time for all! Come back soon!!! Jane Let us know when you want to return

Great house!

  • 5 of 5

We recently stayed here with my parents and my sister and her family. We were very happy with the layout of the home. The space worked great for us, my family which includes 2 young boys took the second floor and it was the perfect arrangement. My 3 yr old loved his " new room" that included a tv and table to color at. Perfect for when he was up early to not interrupt the rest of the house. I loved that it was decorated like a home and was welcoming. It really included everything you need. The view of the bay and the horses and ponies that visit were a nice touch.

Owner's Response: Thanks Lisa for a very positive review! It has been a great summer, one with wonderful guests and very good comments in the house guest book... Great news that the bonus/game/tv room upstairs was appreciated by the youngsters! We thought it would be nice for kids on vacation to have their own space when they needed it! Most kids and adults usually enjoy watching the famous Chincoteague ponies, birds, bunnies and other wildlife from the deck and are pleased that there is free entertainment provided by Mother Nature on this quiet lane..Luckily you were here during the full moon which is always lovely over Oyster Bay, any time of the year. Thanks for leaving the house in such good condition. We hope to see you and your family again soon.....

Save you hard earned money!

  • 2 of 5

We arrived on Friday, got to this house after driving into town to get the paperwork and keys by 5 pm. Upon entering we were swarmed by mosquitoes and horse flies! We had no Ac downstairs and the unit upstairs was still sitting on the floor, uninstalled. Upon further investigation, all the beds were unmade and we were to make them ourselves. I really do not understand the cleaning fees etc when we had to wait for repair person to get here to look at AC unit that was smashed in on one side and disconnected in places under the house( per service man), unmade beds, hole in wall by front door handle and in master, ant traps everywhere and ants! The dryer never dried clothes and was so loud and after two more days, the service man called back to ask if we still wanted the electrical issues in this house fixed! We had 7 people staying here and you can only have four people downstairs to watch a movie due to such limited, uncomfortable seating. Also under this houses amenities, bikes were no longer available, but not taken off list, and the owner said it was a shared dock, but with no pathway, there was no way to get to it. We scoured the town for fans and fly strips! I would not recommended this place to others. We met the owners brother who was very pleasant and helpful! We have rented through Home Away before, this one is not up to standards.

Owner's Response: I am sorry that Khris U. was disappointed with her recent stay at Baywatch North. I have been in the hotel and guest house rental business for many years and pride myself in offering the best possible accommodations to my guests. All reviews and comments, be they positive or negative, are carefully considered so we can continue to improve our service. In response to Khris's concerns: The optional upstairs A.C. units are installed seasonally and should have all been in- two were in and one out-that was our bad and was corrected within hours of her arrival. The remainder of the HVAC unit was functioning well. We do not charge a cleaning fee. The freshly laundered, complimentary sheets are left folded on the bed as a survey of guest revealed they find this one way to be assured their linens are clean. Many rental houses on Chincoteague follow this same procedure. We did not have a complaint of ants prior to this week in question and I inspected the house on the date of departure and was unable to find any sign of recent problems. Chincoteague is a sea level, salt marsh environment. Sometimes flies and often time mosquitoes (dubbed "The Chincoteague Airforce" by many) are a nuisance on the island. We encourage all guests to use appropriate repellent and to be aware of any open doors or windows. Bikes are available at our family owned bike shop as outlined in our listing. This is the first complaint I've ever received in regards to our furnishings. Previous reviews in this regard have been overwhelmingly positive. I purchase many pieces myself (a good excuse to visit Restoration Hardware!). I also employ a local decorator to assure our rentals are as warm and comfortable as possible. Again, I am deeply sorry that we were unable to meet Khris's expectations. We welcome all comments and concerns as there is always room for improvement. I also do my best to respond to questions from potential renters in a timely manner so please contact me with any questions if you are considering a stay with us in the future. Thank you so much. Great family vacation

  • 5 of 5

My family has be visiting Chincoteague Island since 1983, and this was the very best experience yet. This house is spacious, private, well equipped and cozy. All of the appliances are top of the line, and not having to bring sheets, towels, beach towels, a cooler and chairs made packing a breeze. This end of the island is a wildlife oasis - ponies, turtles, rabbits, ducks, geese, osprey and many other birds. It has been remodeled recently and the kitchen and baths (3 of them) are very well done. There is a fabulous deck with a remarkable view and a wonderful place to relax. Chincoteague offers many things to do for all ages. As we vacation with our grandchildren, it was really a bonus to have the use of the pool and its amenities at the Refuge Inn. Dealing with the staff at The Inn and the owner of the house is a delight - helpful and informative. This house offers all the comforts of home...away from home. Thank you so very much, Jane, for a fabulous vacation.

Owner's Response: Thank you Marshall for such a warm and thoughtful review. You have a terrific family and your are welcome back any time!!! There have been quite a few guests's notes of appreciation left at the house but not many Homeaway reviews so it is nice you shared your experience with other potential guests and us!. When we remodeled the Baywatch North from a year round rental to a seasonal rental we set it up as a vacation rental we would like to stay in when we travel. Your experience is exactly what we strived for. The unique scenery and privacy are hard to describe but thanks to you we have a first hand visitor's recommendation to add to our write up on Homeaway. Many thanks for leaving the house in such good condition. The housekeeper always appreciates it. All the best, Jane Wolffe Owner
