Special place to stay while visiting Boston

  • 5 of 5

We loved the Blue Pearl, and it made our time in Boston really special. Loved watching the bridge in operation. Great having free parking, and the location worked well when we needed to drive. But also had easy access to public transportation. Owner responded very quickly to the couple minor questions we had while staying on the houseboat.

Property was as advertised and kids loved it.

  • 5 of 5

As a family of six our original intention of looking of VBRO for a place to stay in Boston was financially driven. Finding a houseboat was exciting as vacations with the kids tend to be more about making memories than relaxing. To be honest, many adults may prefer the amenities of staying walking distance to the sights and with room service, etc. But for family bonding and memory making the house boat was a win. The neighborhood where the marina is located is definitely an authentic working class neighborhood with a lot of diversity. The marina sits like a safe oasis in a busy area. I found the location to be a plus to the trip allowing my kids to get more of a feel of city life. Short driving distance from the marina we found some excellent pizza at Santarpio's where you enter a side door into the kitchen to put in a take out order. Highly recommend!

The houseboat itself was clean except for being able to tell that pets are allowed by some pet hair on the sofa. As far as needs go, the owner has thought of most everything. Deb is quick to respond if you have a question and attentive to your needs. I found the houseboat to be very comparable to being on a well stocked RV. The shower is very small like an RV but the ability to sit outside and enjoy the harbor was fantastic. Expect some jet noise but with a sound machine in the master bedroom it wasn't a big deal. Really didn't notice much movement with the boat.

We found Uber to be the best deal for getting back and forth to the sites. You can save enough on preparing breakfast and packing lunch to more than offset the fare of the UBER. The water taxi has a per person rate and was too expensive during the high season .

I recommend the Blue Pearl to anyone wanting to do something a little different while still enjoying the typical Boston sites. Thank you Deb and the Blue Pearl!

Unique houseboat on Boston Harbor

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay on the Blue Pearl in Boston Harbor! We didn't have a car which made the location a bit inconvenient, but we were able to Uber or walk to the subway station and get where we wanted in Boston. It rained while we were there, which prevented us from enjoying the place fully - great deck both top and bottom to enjoy the harbor.

Very Nice Experience

  • 5 of 5

We decided to stay on Deb's houseboat rather than a hotel so that we could try something different. The houseboat was very neat, clean, and equipt with every amenity we needed for our three night stay. The queen bed was extremely comfortable. My kids are teens, so there was a bit of head banging going on in the loft, but they didn't complain. My kids enjoyed the fact that they could fish right off the dock and the ducks came by nightly for an evening snack of hamburg buns. Tired from their exploits in Boston they were eager to go back to the boat, sit on the docks and and chill out. There was very gentle rocking of the boat which for the most part went unnoticed. Getting to the Maverick T Stop was not something we attempted on foot, but there is a bus stop half a block from the Marina, so there may be an easy way to get there without walking too far. There is a parking lot near the T, but unless you have a handicap tag, you can only park there for 2 hrs. We managed to find some street parking near enough to leave the car for the day. There was a bit of noise from the drawbridge alarm and the traffic on the bridge, but for the most part we weren't effected by it. The view off the boat is not at all fantastic, and there was construction workers and bull dozers moving rocks at 6:00 am which was definitely a bit disturbing. This was certainly not the owner's fault, and in the long run going to better the environment surrounding the marina. Thanks to Deb having a sound machine in the bedroom, we parents were not bothered too much. Over all, this mini vacation was very enjoyable and we would highly recommend this rental for couples or parents of kids older than 10 yr old. There is no barrier around the loft or the docks, so little ones might be more at risk. Deb is very nice and accommodating.

A great alternative to two hotel rooms if you are a party of 6

  • 5 of 5

We took a chance on the Blue Pearl and were very pleasantly surprised by the charm and unique qualities of boating life. The pictures were accurate, the arrival email was detailed, the directions were good, the boat was well stocked, and Deb was very responsive to questions both before and once we arrived. The marina is in an industrial neighborhood and over looks a working drawbridge with a lot of traffic, but I did not find the noise disturbing. We liked watching the big boats go under the raised drawbridge. We were traveling with 4 teens, and they found a way to all sleep in the loft with the two mattresses, an air mattress provided and one we brought. They were kinda crammed up there, but liked it that way, and that freed up the living room space for, well, living. The only time we felt the boat rock was when there were gale force winds, so we just left earlier than planned for the day. It was not a problem. Thank you for a great stay!

Pleasant stay on the water!

  • 5 of 5

The houseboat was very well kept and clean. Great Keurig selection for the morning wake up. It was cold and raining when we went, but I would have loved to enjoy a cup of coffee on the upper deck. Only a 15 minute drive into Boston for all sorts of activities. I recommend eating at Rino's; which is only a few blocks from the house.

Thanks Deb!
