ABOUT THE AREA: You will want to spend several days in beautiful Ouray County. Ouray, which is known as the "Switzerland of America," is nestled in a small valley with 360-degree views of 12,000-14,000 mountains. Ridgway, nicknamed the "Gateway to the San Juans," is just 10 miles from Ouray and is well-known as the place where the John Wayne movie "True Grit" was filmed. Many of the movie set's buildings are still used today by local businesses. These two historic towns offer a variety of activities: restaurants, shops, museums, galleries, hot springs pools, jeep rentals, hiking, fishing and boating -- the list goes on and on! Day trips to Silverton, Telluride and Durango are fun as well.
Ouray is also often called "The Jeeping Capital of the World" because of its many trails through the high country (rated easy to rugged), popular for 2-wheel and 4-wheel off road vehicles.
Golf is available at beautiful Divide Ranch Golf Club located on Log Hill Mesa just above Ridgway, offering panoramic mountain views. Telluride and Montrose also have golf courses.
Ouray and Ridgway both offer local markets, and you can find larger stores like City Market, Safeway, Target and Walmart in Montrose, a flat, easy drive 35 miles from Ouray, 25 miles from Ridgway.
No matter how long you decide to stay, you will find yourself wanting to come back again and again to Ouray County, one of the most beautiful places on earth!
Our group had a fantastic time this past week attending the Ouray Ice Festival. Skyrocket 3 was perfect for us - cozy, with everything we needed, plenty of space, and within walking distance to the Park and everything in town.
Great property. Roomy, well equipped with everything someone would need for their stay. Love the location and view. Can't wait to stay there again.
My family loved this property right across from the hot springs. Modern and comfortable it was ideal for our 4 day getaway... only wish we had more time to explore this area and the beautiful scenery in this part of Colorado. Having travelled in the Alps I can see why they call it the Switzerland of America.... Great inspiration for my landscape paintings!
Ouray is quaint with some nice shopping and restaurants. We can recommend the ice cream place across from the brewery! There is also great hiking from town on the perimeter trail... checkout Cascade Falls if you get a chance. Took a day trip to Telluride and had fun on the free gondola ride up the mountain.
The place is really perfect! Such a great place with awesome views from every room! It was stocked with literally every need
We will be back!!
Two families of four stayed here for a week just before the Fourth 2016. We could not have chosen a better place in Ouray. The house was stocked with every possible thing you could need, even condiments and paper plates. The proximity to the hot springs pool was even closer than we thought and our kids could just walk over with ease. The pictures of the home do not do it justice; especially of the outdoor shared patio and garden area with the grill. It was spacious and so pretty. The sun room was great to have for an additional sitting area and the view was phenomenal. It was unusually warm while we were there so it should be noted that there is no AC in the home so it's necessary to keep the windows open all day/night during the summer. If I were the owner, I would add a ceiling fan to the upstairs bedroom that doesn't have one. One of upstairs bedrooms had one but not the other and those in that room were hot....my only critique.
As I said, everything you could need is provided, even floats and towels for the pool. We cooked most meals in the townhome and ate on the lovely patio next to the gorgeous garden; which was a wonderful addition to the rental and only for guests staying in the townhomes. The area was quiet and I never felt intruded upon by the guest in the adjacent homes. I looked closely during the week we were there and didn't see another property or area that made me wished we'd stayed instead. The owners have maintained everything perfectly and taken their guests needs into the utmost consideration. I highly recommend this home!
We couldn't be more pleased with our stay. Attractive and comfortable with beautiful view. Across from hot springs pool and able to walk up town. You have thought of everything. Thank you so much. Tim and Nancy P.
beautifully decorated, close access to town and the hot springs. rock climbing and perimeter trail are right out the door. looking forward to staying again. The only thing we noticed was that the floor squeaks as you walk around and it is somewhat loud in the downstairs bedrooms.
Hot springs, Easy access to National Forest, Close to Telluride, Close to Durango and Silverton, Close to Black Canyon National Park, Close to Montrose, Near to Ridgway Reservoir.
