ABOUT THE AREA: You will want to spend several days in beautiful Ouray County. Ouray, which is known as the "Switzerland of America," is nestled in a small valley with 360-degree views of 12,000-14,000 mountains. Ridgway, nicknamed the "Gateway to the San Juans," is just 10 miles from Ouray and is well-known as the place where the John Wayne movie "True Grit" was filmed. Many of the movie set's buildings are still used today by local businesses. These two historic towns offer a variety of activities: restaurants, shops, museums, galleries, hot springs pools, jeep rentals, hiking, fishing and boating -- the list goes on and on! Day trips to Silverton, Telluride and Durango are fun as well.
Ouray is also often called "The Jeeping Capital of the World" because of its many trails through the high country (rated easy to rugged), popular for 2-wheel and 4-wheel off road vehicles.
Golf is available at beautiful Divide Ranch Golf Club located on Log Hill Mesa just above Ridgway, offering panoramic mountain views. Telluride and Montrose also have golf courses.
Ouray and Ridgway both offer local markets, and you can find larger stores like City Market, Safeway, Target and Walmart in Montrose, a flat, easy drive 35 miles from Ouray, 25 miles from Ridgway.
No matter how long you decide to stay, you will find yourself wanting to come back again and again to Ouray County, one of the most beautiful places on earth!
I have rented a number of places from VRBO over the last 10 years. I would consider this property to be one of the best experiences. OVR was very easy to deal with and promptly responded to all questions. The actual property was just perfect for 3 guys who were hiking and shooting landscape. The three bedrooms were of ample size with good storage. The beds and pillows were good. The best part of the property was the kitchen. It was very well equipped and everything we tried worked. There also were two quiet spaces separated from the kitchen/great room that provided “quiet time”. Good for kids. Overall, the place was spotless and had a new property smell. The only little nit is that there is no signage for the pace. You will drive by it a few times before you remember where it is. We would definitely rent it again.
This was a very spacious and clean town home! Very large kitchen and the two bedrooms were very large down stairs. We really enjoyed the mountain view from the sunroom! We usually ate in for breakfast and some dinners. It had a nice garage and a few pantry items like coffee, sugar, tea, etc. The only suggestion is a bed on the 2nd bedroom upstairs instead of a sitting area. Loved it and would stay again.
The townhouse was great! Very nice, spacious and comfortable with spectacular views! We will definitely be returning!
Beautiful, spacious place with great views, and right across from the hot springs pool. Can't beat it!
Super spot and nice kitchen which we appreciated. It has infloor heating which does take some time to get up to temp but was great once we understood the delay issue. I bit pricey for this remote town and the parking IS limited to only 2 vehicles.
This was a very pleasurable rental experience. The real estate office was prepared, friendly, and all communication was efficient. The property is very easy to find and access. Once inside, everything was so nice and comfortable. At first I believed the price was premium for the modern amenities and location / view, but when we got there, the space in the unit was amazing, it it was much more than a couple travelling would need, and would be a true value price for a large group staying there. We thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of our two day stay and would not hesitate to re-book this location again in the future.
We had a wonderful time. The townhouse was great and very roomy. The view in the sun room was awesome. Being right across from the pool was a nice treat.
We will be coming back.
