You can use the canoe, as well as board games. Bring a book- you'll enjoy the sound of the loons and the quiet of the breeze blowing through pines.

Because the lake has not been contaminated with invasive species, we do not allow boat access with boats used outside this lake without special permission (it's complicated) and cleaning of the boat by an authorized cleaning service.
You will not have access to the garage and we ask that you not use the basement as it has some tools and personal items there. ALSO, FOR SAFETY REASONS, YOU MAY NOT USE THE FIREPLACE.
Guests are free to use the property in peace and quiet. We may stop in to say hello just to make sure you're having a great stay.
Friends Lake is an all-natural 3 mile lake situated in the southern Adirondacks. The lake has no invasive species and is home to many native species of both vegetation and fish. The community is quiet, friendly and tight-knit.
Nearby Chestertown- only 10 minutes via auto- has everything a family needs: post office, grocery store, farmer's market, liquor store, library, hardware store, pizzeria, olde fashioned ice cream shop and a gas station.
Other sites of interest:
Cat Mountain on Lake George.
Crane Mountain, Johnsburgh, NY
The Blue Ledges- and it's part of the headwaters of the wonderful Hudson River.
More info on directions to trail heads can be found on google maps.
There are plenty of places to park. Please don't park in the driveway (it is shared with other homes), but rather park in front of the garage. Also, down the driveway to the lake, there is a larger parking area that you are free to use.
Getting around: on car, swim or walking.
Please note that the property has a hot tub that does not function- so it wasn't included in the listing. Also, we currently do not allow use of the fireplace for safety purposes.
Finally- renters agree when booking to use AT YOUR OWN RISK the premises, the beach, and the canoe. Renters also note that there is no lifeguard at the beach and as such swim at their own risk. Thank you.
Please: No smoking on the premises. Thank you.
Guests are expected to live by the Golden Rule. The community is family-oriented so parties, late-nite revelry and disorderly conduct are not within the bounds of use for this property.
I'm a lover of the Adirondacks and have been the owner of this home for several years.
James L. Flacke purchased this cottage in 2007
It's a cute cottage located on Friends Lake- a clean and natural lake with no invasive species! It's close to Lake George, Gore Mountain Ski Area, and many hiking trails and other lakes.
The home is completely redone with eco-friendly materials. It's warm, has both a deck and screened porch and lovely new kitchen and baths. There's also a laundry upstairs for your use.
James' house is very charming, and has been updated recently. The house has everything you will need for a relaxed family vacation. Beautiful hard wood floors throughout the house and nice granite countertops. Towels are available, and a washer and dryer if you need them. Plenty of dishes and cooking equipment. There is a screen in back porch. We ate dinner on it one evening to avoid a few pesky flies. Also a nice back deck to lounge on or have a before dinner drink. Friends Lake is about a 100 yard walk down a private road. There is a small beach with a swimming platform. We went swimming in the lake. James' neighbors on the lake are very friendly. Chestertown is 2 miles directly east where there is a Tops grocery. We ate at the Odd Duck and the Main Street Ice Cream Store. Both were very good. Overall a great experience.
We enjoyed the quaintness of Friends Lake when compared to the touristy area of Lake George. We were able to see and do a lot during the day, and have this great home to return to. The screened-in and open porches were fantastic, and the walk to the lake to kayak/canoe and take our dog for a swim was easy and fun. The home has been beautifully updated and was a peaceful respite for our 4-day stay. The house does sit on a road where you can hear cars passing by overnight, so that could be an issue for lighter sleepers. This was our first VRBO experience, and a very positive one!
The property proved to be as advertised. Especially clean and neatly renovated as an updated version of an older Adirondack home near a lake. Neighbors at shared beach were very friendly. Having Loon Lake very close allowed for a convenient rental of a pontoon boat for a day of fun.
My only complain is that although the house seemed clean after we looked closer the toilet downstairs was in great need of obvious cleaning (which I ended up doing) as there wasn't time to ask the owner to bring the cleaning person back; we were only staying 2 days and didn't want to spend our time booking appointments. After that we felt uncertain that the sheets had been changed. I can't say that the bedsheets weren't changed but the toilet made us feel that a cleaning person hadn't been there since last time someone occupied the property. However, we did enjoy staying at the house.
My friends and I stayed here for Labor Day weekend. The house is further north in Chestertown and about 15 minutes from the grocery store. The private lake in the back (shared with a couple neighbors) was by far our favorite feature of the house. The neighbors were extremely kind and friendly to offer their kayaks to us along with James' canoe.
The house has surround sound and has top appliances. The only things I would note are that there is only one bathroom and that rates are significantly higher for more people + on holidays.
Great place to stay if you're visiting Adirondack park or Lake George!
My husband and I recently stayed at this wonderfully renovated cottage for a long weekend getaway. The cottage is tastefully decorated, updated, and has many great features like sound wired throughout the whole house. The lake is a quick walk down a private road, and it was clean, quiet, and beautiful. We spent hours floating on the lake - which was exactly what we dreamed of! Though it is a shared beach, it felt private because we were mostly alone. When we did come across one of the neighbors, they were exceptionally friendly and made us wish we were a permanent part of this lovely summer community! We enjoyed dinners at the nearby Grist Mill on the Schroon and local Main St. Ice Cream Parlor. The town has a great little supermarket, too. A quick word on the owner, James: he was very accommodating of our last minute booking, and was kindly available for questions. He obviously takes great care of the property. We would highly recommend this property!
