Isabela, the western-most town on the north coast, offers visitors great views and beaches. If you are like me, you will be in heaven watching the beauty of the ocean crashing onto the shore or over rocks. Though best-known for its beaches and surfing, Isabela also has a forest reserve, caves, lakes, rivers and historical sites all waiting to be explored.
We had a great time. The apartment was clean and easy to find, close to lots of beaches and places to eat. There were screens on the windows and door so we could have a nice cross breeze at all times. It was very quiet during our stay (Monday-Thursday) and the apartment complex is gated, which made me feel safe. Montones Beach is beautiful. You can walk or drive to Jobos Beach. Crash Boat Beach is a 20 minute drive away.
Awilda was very helpful and responded to all emails quickly.
A quick note about power outages. We had one the last night we were there. It's actually the whole neighborhood that gets them (not just the apartment complex) and it lasted a couple hours. Not a problem for us, we just went out for a rum and Coke.
Awilda's apartment was more than accommodating. The kitchen was well supplied (and even had good knives!). Everything was very clean and smelled great. Having the ocean breeze blowing throughout the apartment day and night was soothing and so relaxing (I didn't even notice there was no AC). The bed and couch were very comfortable, and there were plenty of clean towels. There were beach chairs, umbrellas, and even bikes to use. This was definitely a home away from home - it was very hard to leave, especially waking with the sunrise glowing into the bedroom each morning. Thanks again, Awilda!
We spent 3 days at the apartment in Isabella whilst we explored the center and west of the Island. It was perfectly located for this. It was right next to a beautiful beach that rarely had anyone else on it. However due to the strong currents and big waves we felt it may not have been safe for regular swimming.
The apartment itself had everything we needed and enough fans to keep us cool.
The only thing I would point out is that during our 3 day stay we had 2 power cuts. We spoke to some neighbours who said this was a regular thing in the area but they usually get it fixed quickly. Both times the power was back on in a few hours so didn't cause any major issues.
We had a great stay and really enjoyed the Isabella.
We had a great stay here at Montones Beach Apts-it was just right for the two of us! The bed was comfortable and the ocean breeze blew in at the bedroom windows! In general, we don't "sweat" the lack of an air conditioner, because our own home doesn't have one. However, it has been unusually warm/hot in Puerto Rico this month and we live at 8900ft in the drier air of the southern Colorado mountains so we missed the canned air a little bit. We admit that we might be a tad spoiled. On the bright side, there are plenty of fans here and we stayed comfortable and made sure that we were at water's edge in the heat of the day. It's been a great week in Puerto Rico and our "home base" has met all our expectations! Thank you, Awilda...We hope to return someday!
Relevant close to all we needed and wanted. Clean apartment, comfy, and well equipped and family friendly so you could really enjoy your vacation.
