Comfort, Views, Privacy and No Worries!

When I was considering my first vacation in almost two decades…yes you read that right…TWO DECADES!!!! My Dear and Best Friend recommended that I stay at Island Pearl on the island of North Captiva, Florida. So I took her advice and booked a 10 day stay half a year in advance. I’m an RN at a Very busy clinic and I usually work four 12’s a week. So when it was time to head to Florida I Was Ready to get there!

My experience at Island Pearl Far exceeded what I was expecting! Yes, I looked at the pictures of Island Pearl on a DAILY basis…remember 2 decades. Upon arrival at North Captiva I was greeted by staff awaiting my arrival. I found my golf cart waiting for me and after a few minutes of golf cart driving lessons I was off to Island Pearl! The ride was so beautiful and peaceful. As I drove down Rum road and came to Oyster Shell Road where Island Pearl is located I could feel the stress leave me. The roads really are sandy lanes that run the part of the island where all the structures and homes are.

As I pulled up to Island Pearl with its palm trees swaying and birds singing, the cheery yellow exterior greeted me. I drove the cart into the “carport” and plugged the cart up to the battery charger. I first walked the grounds before heading upstairs to my new home for a week. There was a wonderful breeze that actually lasted the entire time I was there. All kinds of birds were singing, cicadas were buzzing, turtle tracks all over the place! Checked out the pool area…so nice! Nice lounge chairs and the water was beautiful and perfect temperature too! Now to head upstairs…my luggage and groceries that I purchased a few hours earlier were brought to Island Pearl by the North Captiva staff. As I got to the top of the stairs I looked out over the pool and the rest of the property at Island Pearl. What I noticed is that the pool area is at the back of the house which makes it Very private. Many of the homes on the island have the pool on the side of the house where everyone riding by can see. I really like that feature due to I wasn’t tan And I wasn’t in the greatest shape!

Swiping my key…you get a credit card like key for the house key like you would get at a hotel…I entered Island Pearl. I was very impressed at how very clean the home was! The entry level is the level with all the bedrooms. There is a master suite with its own bathroom and king size platform bed, another bedroom with a king size bed, the third room has a queen bed and the kids room (which is

Okay stay, could have been better

  • 2 of 5

First I will start with the things that was good about the Island Pearl. The pool and observation deck were great! When the advertisement say recently renovated that is what was renovated. The house was clean. It is very close to the beach which we loved. The house in itself was not renovated. There are several problems with the house. I'll start with the main floor. The furniture is old and ripped. The fridge doesn't keep drinks cold so don't expect to have cold drinks unless you use ice. The wi-fi doesn't work. (the box is broken). On the first floor the washer and dryer are old and rusted. The shower in the master bath was terrible! You had to use both hands to turn the water on and off. None of the tv's in the bedrooms worked. One bedroom the tv didn't even have a power cord. We had a problem with the golf cart but I'm not sure if that was our fault or not. Overall we had a good trip but it could have been so much better. If we go back to the island we won't be staying at the Island Pearl again. And I'm not sure we would stay at any of the properties that are managed by the Island Club. They were not very helpful .They made you feel like you were bothering them. I called one morning to have someone come out to clean the pool since there were a lot of worms in it. They said they would send someone. No one had shown up so around 2:00 my husband called to see when someone was coming and they told him they didn't have a record of anyone calling about the pool. So the boys missed using the pool most of that day. My luggage was damaged and it took us several days to reach someone that would talk to us about it. They offered us drinks and told us they didn't know how it got damaged and it could have happened anywhere. Finally they offered us a $50 credit.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. We apologize you had some issues at the house. We have replaced the internet with a better service. The owner has ordered a new couch and we have figured out why the fridge was not cooling properly and addressed this. Thanks again and we appreciated your visiting North Captiva Island.

Awesome stay

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Island Pearl for a week in mid-March. Two families of four, all boys ranging in age from 2-10. This was our first time to North Captiva and our stay could not have been better. The Island Pearl meets every need. Our trip was all about relaxation -- so we basically migrated daily from the pool to the beach, back to the pool and eventually to the porch to close out the day. I would recommend this house to anyone, couples, large families, you name it. It has all you could ask for and more. We will return again soon!
