We very much wanted to love this place. We were a little hesitant on choosing North Captiva because we have 3 young children and didnt know if it was worth the extra travel. We wanted a relaxing and quiet vacation where we can cook at home and go to and from the beach as we pleased. After reading about North Captiva, we thought this will be the perfect choice as we didnt want to leave the house much. The House itself needs some work, one of the toilets wouldn't flush properly, the sink took way too long to drain, leaving dirty water sitting in the sink for way too long. The worst of it was there was absolutely no phone reception where this house is located so we needed to rely on wifi. Our wifi stopped working the 2nd day we got there which meant there was no cable, internet and none of the house lines worked to call the receptionist for help. We had to walk out to the beach to a specific area to call for help or speak to anyone. It took THREE days for them to finally come and fix the wifi. THREE days of us calling them from the beach every few hours asking them to please fix the wifi as we have small children and if something was to happen, we needed to call someone. The children were unable to watch any tv. Within those three days, no one even bothered to come and check on anything for us. They kept telling us someone was coming. At night the power went off and we sat there in pitch black with no AC and no connection to the outside world. It definitely was not relaxing!!! There is also a cockroach problem. I took pictures of the cockroach my 1 year old found in her bedroom floor and found 2 in the kitchen and sent it to management. I let them know its unfair to charge the amount they do per night for these issues and of course NO ONE got back to me. The beach itself is gorgeous but I will definitely not pay to come back here again. Definitely going back to staying in Captiva and Sanibel.
We had a very relaxing stay on North Captiva Island. The house we rented (#145 Osprey Nest) was perfect for the three of us. The house was close to the beach (short walk) and the private pool was terrific. The island is very quiet so if you're looking for night life, don't go to North Captiva. It's really quiet and relaxing. There are only 3 restaurants on the island and only 2 very small shops. The house comes with a golf cart which is fun to drive around. Bring your bug spray because mosquitoes are relentless. This house could use more kitchen utensils, a new master bedroom mattress & new bed pillows. Other than that, the house is very comfortable. We recommend the fishing trips and kayaking.
