Great stay

  • 5 of 5

This house was the perfect size for two couples. The bedrooms were spacious and both had attached bathrooms, which was an unexpected bonus. It was very clean when we arrived.

The location is perfect. A short stroll to up the 'street' and you are at the beach for sunset. Right on the airstrip so you can watch planes come in and take off. There were only two during the three days that we were there, so don't worry about traffic.

I will agree with other reviewers that said that the linens could use a reboot. 100% polyester sheets (hot) that kept coming off the bed in the middle of the night were annoying but there were plenty of sheets in the closet and I was able to swap them out.

Great view. Horrible uncomfortable disgusting beds.

Great location. Was fun to watch the planes land. Good water view. Quiet side of island. We had more than a few issues...dishwasher had a massive leak all over the kitchen [noone answers the help line], hot tub leaked, our keys never worked to the house so we had to leave it unlocked for the first week until someone showed up to fix it. The owner here should know that if there's an emergency that the response time is not quick at all. A lot of the bedding was worn out some even had holes in them. The beds were the worst bed I ever slept in in my entire life. I went to rotate the mattress and possibly flip it to find a decent side to it and there was two huge urine stains all over it ...needless to say that was disgusting. I told the contacts of this issue. I would not stay here again unless they replaced the beds completely box frame and mattress... because they squeaked really loud too. Wi-Fi didn't work until 8th day there. For the kind of money I was charged I was most disappointed in the lack of sleep I had due to the beds.

Very convenient to beach and although we didn't cook a full kitchen was available. Limited but fantastic restaurants on the island.

Truly Island Getaway

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed the beautiful island, all the descriptions and reviews of North Captiva were accurate and worth the travel. The wildlife and surrounding beaches and vegetation were lush and wild, so don't expect any nicely landscaped properties. We saw large turtles, the manatees that lived in the harbor, birds, etc. Wonderfully quiet and dark at night with just the sound of the ocean waves crashing. Watching the small planes take off and land right next to our house. Definitely a peaceful and relaxing place. Our home was exactly as described and in great condition. My only concern was the large bee hive in the back corner (not sure how long thats been there) and we had some confusion about the internet password which could have been more clear. I also wish the "lounge chairs" on the deck actually reclined back....they were a bit uncomfortable and I really wanted to nap on the porch :) Maybe add a hammock??

As for the NCIC customer service, I felt like it was mediocre. We had a lot of challenges arriving for our scheduled family vacation due to Hurricane Matthew. I called a couple times to see what my options were, and the people over the phone weren't overly helpful. Basically, if I couldn't make it, we were out of luck. I was told "that's why we offer travel insurance and you chose to decline it". In a terribly stressful time, with cancelled flights and my entire family in South Florida, with the uncertainty of the nature of the storm, I was hoping for a bit more compassion and understanding. When we arrived, it took a really long time to retrieve our luggage. We took the ferry service that "drops your luggage at the door", but I would have rather just placed it on our golf cart so we didn't have to wait forever for our food and clothing items. (The highlight of our service was when my sister left her entire luggage back in her vehicle. CJ took her keys and got her luggage on the next ferry in the morning!)

I wish someone would have given us advice or warning about: 1) Red Tide - dead fish EVERYWHERE, 2) Noseeums - biting bugs everywhere 3) Where on the island you can get direct access to the beach. We were not clear on which streets led us to available beaches and a lot of them we found were "private". We also called a couple times about our internet, and it took 2 days to finally get someone to come check it out.

All the amenities of the NCIC were good, but nothing outstanding.
