Welcome to The Moon named after our rescue dog. And for the view from our spacious rooftop deck! Sweeping views of the Gulf of Mexico, Nature Preserve, and sunsets. A lovely little house...only a 4 minute walk to the beach or 1 minute on the golf cart! A wonderful vacation spot for a small family, a couple or even 2 couples. There are 2 bedrooms (flat screen tv in both) with private bath in the master, and 2nd bathroom off the living room. The open and airy floor plan includes a living room (2 large slip covered sofa beds, 2 chairs, and small game table), dining area (table with 6 chairs) off of the open kitchen. Also, there is a screened in porch off of the kitchen, with table and chairs. The ground level offers your own private swimming pool (gated for child safety), grill, and 4 person jacuzzi. This home provides a lifted 4 passenger golf cart. The rooftop deck has a cocktail table, chairs, and chaise lounges for sunning. Also, included with our North Captiva Club membership, you have access to use their 2 commercial sized pools ( you can order cocktails poolside or go to their small bar/restaurant), tennis courts, basketball court, or rent kayaks, paddle boards, beach bikes, and more!
The Moon is the perfect getaway. Our 8 year old friend Ayden stayed here with us and said it best... This is heaven! We couldn't agree more!
About the owners:
We are a married couple with one rescue dog (moon) and one rescue cat (cakes). We both have a love for interiors, mixing old with new. Also, we love music and vegan food.
Why we chose North Captiva:
Our very dear friends introduced us to North Captiva, and we have been coming here for years. It's such an amazing island, and we fell in love with the relaxed vibe of the island. Many local folks don't even know about it. It feels like a secret oasis..
What makes this house unique:
Location!!! We are close to the beach, the nature preserve, and close to the North Captiva club. Also, we wanted a relaxed beach feel without the typical Florida theme. We would love our guests to feel like their in a casual beach home. A true vacation getaway where you can do whatever you want to do! Your biggest worry is deciding & beach, club pool, or house pool? The second biggest worry is what cocktail should we have?...
This vacation rental home is located on North Captiva Island. Remote and undiscovered, North Captiva Island is accessible only by ferry, private boat or small plane. This private island community is reminiscent of old Florida as it once was during a simpler time. Just 3 miles off shore, this tropical paradise is part of the Lee Island Coast barrier island chain in South West Florida. Nearest airport to fly to would be in Fort Myers, Fl. Travel by golf cart or bicycle on our sandy native trails. Here, you will find no cars, no crowds or paved roads. North Captiva Island offers a small town impression with just enough amenities to suite your family needs. Guest would have access to our club pools, hot tub, bikes, kayaks, tennis court, half basketball court, and beach chairs. We welcome you to join us for a truly memorable experience of a self-effacing refuge, where a slower pace is expectant. All are fully equipped with our resort package for your convenience and setup for comfort with all the luxuries of your own home to be found right here, in paradise!

Nice property - but needs a serious cleaning!
Let me start by saying that we absolutely LOVED our first time on North Captiva Island. The service at North Captiva Beach Resort was lovely - the staff friendly, and overall we had a very good experience on that side and hope to be back. The restaurants that we tried were very good as well.
North Captiva Island is heavenly! It's the perfect place to sleep in, ride around in golf carts, hit the beach when you're ready, and just relax and enjoy yourself.
The Moon property has the potential to be an absolutely lovely little home. Our problem was with the upkeep or lack thereof.
Upon our arrival at the property, the first thing we noticed was old pool/beach toys laying around - there were old, broken pails, deflated innertubes and floaties, broken pots, and all sorts of stuff laying around in the area surrounding the pool and carport. I picked up and moved everything I thought might be "dangerous" for my small children and we moved on.
Upon entering the house we immediately thought - perfect little beach house. It was just lovely! We had our 2 small children with us so I went around doing the standard moving of breakable things out of their reach and immediately began noticing how dirty/dusty everything was. And then - I realized that there was dirt on the floors, ceiling fans, walls, and even the blinds had a thick layer of dirt on them. As if it had sat empty for some time and no one bothered to clean it before we arrived. It was pretty bad. I had to wipe down all surfaces we would be using and just ignore the rest - we were only there for a few days after all and I was going to enjoy it!
I think the worst was that the bathtub was clogged and wouldn't drain so I called about it. The club sent the maintenance person out very quickly and he fixed it and left. After a couple of hours, we noticed a foul odor coming from the bathroom and realized that he had just tossed the big glob of gross hair that was blocking the drain right in the garbage can in the bathroom and left it there - SO GROSS!!!
Seriously, The Moon could be so lovely - it just needs a very good cleaning inside and out. Torn screens on the screened in porch, copious amounts of dirt and dust throughout the house, the broken filter on the hot tub - which we chose not to use, and trash laying all around outside do not make for a very relaxing stay.
Very clean and comfortable.
This was our second time staying at the Moon and we, again, had a great stay. We enjoy being able to bring our pets and they also had a nice time. North Captiva Island is so unique, quiet and relaxing. The unit in which we stayed is clean and comfortable. It is also in a good location. The only exception to an otherwise perfect vacation was when we went to get in the hot tub the first night of our stay. The tub was only about 3/4 full and the temp was 80 degrees. It was a big disappointment on our first night. I would think there would be a checklist to make sure everything is ready to go when renters arrive. Several phone calls on the second day finally got someone to remedy the issue. We missed two nights of hot tubbing but that is pretty minor. Overall, a nice place to stay.
Absolutely wonderful property
This house was perfect for me and my husband and our golden retriever (who celebrated her 10th birthday on the island). The only reason we come to NCI is so we can travel with our dog. There aren't many homes that accept dogs, so we are grateful for those that do. We've been here before and this was, by far, the best house we've had. It's in my favorite location on the island, the pool was clutch on the windy days, hot tub was amazing for relaxing at night, house was super clean and in tip top shape. Really couldn't have been happier. We will be looking to stay at this property again in the future. I don't know if there wasn't a lot of "stuff" compared to the other homes we've rented because of the new owners or it's a NCIC property (first time we've gone through them) but we're just used to having more beach towels, fishing poles, floaties, charcoal, etc. already at the house. But, no biggie, just did an extra load of towels, rented poles and bought a few things from Mangos. Thank you, Moon, for sharing your vacation house with us! Lux, our golden loved it as much as I'm sure you do!
very comfortable perfectly located
The most notable thing about the Moon is its location. Just a few yards down from the ocean , and the best place for sunsets and dolphin sightings on the island. I actually took two award winning pictures of our first sunset and last on the island .
The home itself was very comfortable . the pool and especially the enclosed back porch were very important additions which made our stay even better .
MUCH IMPROVED! MUCH IMPROVED!
This is my second time visiting this home. We would NOT have rented it again if we did not see there were new owners. We took a chance and we were thrilled with the improvements in this home. The home is clean and beautifully decorated. We loved having breakfast on the rooftop, watching sunsets, and viewing the starts. This is a very comfortable two bedroom home with two full baths. We will certainly return! Thanks for making this such a GREAT rental!
A Nice Retreat
We really enjoyed our two weeks on North Captiva. The unit we rented was very clean, well decorated, comfortable, well equipped with cooking items, grills, etc. and had a nice location on the island. The only improvements I would recommend were regarding the pool. The pool deck needs some work and the pool heater was very inconsistent. Some days the water was warm and comfortable, other days ice cold. I don't know if the heater was on the fritz or someone was shutting it off. That needs to be fixed in my opinion.
