It's impossible to talk about Coslick Cottage without talking about Forsyth Park, the crown jewel of Savannah's municipal park system. Built during the middle of the 1800s, the park features beautiful walking paths, a lush canopy of mature oaks and broad lawns that host college students, local sunbathers and curious tourists alike. Forsyth Park also features a fountain array that mimics the Place des Concordes in Paris as well as statues and plaques that commemorate noteworthy figures from Savannah's illustrious past.
Put the Savannah GA Historic District at Your Fingertips
Forsyth Park isn't the only Savannah landmark within easy reach of Coslick Cottage. In fact, this Savannah GA Historic District rental offers access to top-tier restaurants and cafes like the Sentient Bean and Local 11 Ten. If you're in the mood for a pulse-pounding nightlife experience, the clubs and music venues of River Street are just a short bike or taxi ride to the north.
Of course, you don't have to spend all your time in Savannah on earthly pleasures. The area around Coslick Cottage boasts renowned cultural institutions, including the public galleries at Savannah College of Art and Design and the Jepson Center for the Art. Meanwhile, the nearby Davenport House Museum and the Owen-Thomas House offer historical insights that can't be found anywhere outside the Savannah GA Historic District. The house was exactly as it is pictured here. It was clean and very well-maintained. I found the bed to be comfortable and I appreciated the large bathroom. There was plenty of shelf space in the bathtub for holding lots of soaps and shampoos, too. There was a space for parking your car off the street.
The kitchen was amazingly well-stocked. They even included a hot water kettle, tea pot, and a Keurig coffee/tea machine. I was grateful for the variety of cleaning supplies as well. They had Clorox Wipes, lots of laundry detergent, and plenty of dish washing detergent. This was the best stocked house that I've ever rented. We didn't do much cooking while we were there, but we took advantage of little things like the toaster and the tea kettle.
The air conditioner cooled the house a bit unevenly, but we were able to stay cool despite the fact that we were in Savannah during a nasty heat wave. The front of the house (living room and second bedroom) was easier to cool than the main bedroom. The second bedroom is very tiny. This house really is ideal for 2 people.
The living room had a flat screen TV and a Blu-ray player. We had some sort of cable or a satellite dish. I'm not sure which.
The screened porch is adorable. It lacks a fan, however. On a super-hot day in June, you're probably not going to want to use it much. It is well-lit with a couple of porch lights and some strings of Christmas tree lights. The lights flickered on and off a bit while we were there, however. One string of the lights wasn't working. (There was a lot of pollen on the outdoor furniture. )
The neighborhood was the disadvantage for this house. It was a quiet area at night for the most part. That being said, this house isn't in the prettiest part of town. There are a lot of rundown houses nearby. It doesn't feel unsafe. It was just a tad disappointing. I suppose that I wanted to walk outside and be surrounded by Victorian manors every day. That's not what you'll get here. The house is in walking distance to Forsyth Park, but it isn't close to other major sites. If you're in Savannah during the summer, you're not going to want to walk from this house to the historic district. You're going to want to drive. (There are plenty of parking decks.) If you're vising Savannah during a cooler season, it might be more reasonable to plan to walk everywhere from this house.
Very Close to Forsyth Park. Walking Distance to most anywhere in the downtown area.
