Description

La Pointe House Rental Photos and Description

Estate, 5 Bedrooms + Loft, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 14-16)

From the moment you walk in the door you will feel completely at home at the barn at Madeline Island.

Sleeps 16 in beds/featured in both Martha Stewart Weddings, Linda Mack's new book about Madeline Island homes and featured on the Discovery Channel (Great Retreats).

Our home is located on over 900' of private lakeshore (18 acres) surrounded by beautiful white pine, maple and birch forest. The 3000 square foot home was built in 2003 from a 200 year old Vermont hay barn we had disassembled, transported and painstakingly reassembled into a luxury vacation home. The hand hewn beams inside are up to 20' in diameter and the walls are original barn board.

Enjoy our over-sized dock at sunset. Stand Up Paddle Boards and Kayaks are waiting for you at the lake... You and your kids will love swimming at the shore.

A charming treehouse for the kids and a handmade bonfire area to enjoy marshmallows and cocktails.

You will feel warm and comfortable from the moment you step inside to find a gourmet kitchen with Viking range and all of the amenities needed to relax and or entertain in grand style. Sit on the huge deck with family or friends and watch the sun set over the islands.

A perfect retreat for a couple, a wedding, a reunion or a larger group of friends looking to experience peace and quiet on Madeline Island.

We've hosted gorgeous weddings, family retreats, reunions and honeymoons. We take extra pains to make sure your needs are met. (caretakers are down the road!)

The Barn is truly a work of art that needs to be seen to be fully appreciated.

We are 7 miles from the town of LaPointe where you'll find restaurants, bars, ice cream and souvenir shopping. There are tennis courts available as well as a Robert Trent Jones-designed golf course. Moped, kayak and bicycle rental also available. Take the ferry over to Bayfield for a day trip of shopping and dinner out.

Available for weekly (7 night minimum) rentals during July and August or shorter periods in fall, winter and spring (3 night minimum).

This review sums up your future experience at our home:

"The home was BEAUTIFUL. It was decorated lovely, with a warm and cozy feeling. It was spacious, clean, very comfortable and the view to Lake Superior breathtaking. The home had all the amenities we needed and the gourmet kitchen was fabulous. We spent a lot of time on the huge deck, which had comfortable seating for all. The dock was large and awesome where we spent a lot of time sunbathing, taking a dip in Lake Superior to cool off and trying our skills on the paddleboard. We had a lovely time and we all agreed that it was one of our best vacations. We also want to thank the owner and the caretaker for calling us to make sure we had everything we needed. That's customer service at it's finest. "

What makes this house unique

The barn at Madeline Island is actually a 200 year old hay barn that was lovingly moved from Vermont to its new home at Madeline Island where it was turned in to a breathtaking luxury home. Featured on the Discovery Channel, Martha Stewart Weddings and the upcoming book 'Madeline Island Summer Houses' by Linda Mack.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Sanders,

It's been a bit of a whirlwind here since returning from Madeline Island--my apologies for sending this note so late!

I just wanted to thank you for our family's amazing vacation. Our parents have fond memories of the Island and have long talked about returning. Your beautiful home helped create a once-in-a-lifetime vacation for our entire family. It's hard to imagine how so many people could possibly relax under one roof--but we did! The mix of private and common spaces, spacious common rooms, and outdoor options were perfect.

Thank you so much for sharing your home with us.

All the best,

Andrew

Lovely Time at The Barn

  • 5 of 5

We gathered at The Barn for my mother's 70th birthday. This one-of-a-kind property is gorgeous, organized, very spacious and well-maintained. There are a lot of toys, games, and equipment available which is a huge bonus. The screened porch was wonderful for late-night Scrabble games and the view of the lake and evening sunsets can't be beat. Sanders is a very responsive and helpful host. We look forward to coming back and highly recommend staying here!

Simply Wonderful

  • 5 of 5

It only took a few minutes at The Barn for me to completely relax. The view of and proximity to the lake are spectacular, the rooms are comfortable and sweet. One of my favourite things about the house itself is that the main action happens in a large shared space: there is cooking happening on the gorgeous stove, games on the long dining table, and a whole range of perfect reading corners. In short: we had a great time unwinding, taking time for ourselves and reconnecting with each other. I'm counting the days until we go back.

Magical.

  • 5 of 5

The Barn has become our favorite family vacation spot. The home and its surroundings are magical, including the dock! The home is extremely comfortable and very well stocked. The kitchen is a dream for anyone who loves to cook. Beds and bedding, top notch. Our kids never run out of things to do in the lower level kids space--when we need to be indoors! Most of our time is on the dock, in the water or meandering in the woods. The paddle boards and kayaks constantly in motion. Short trips to town for ice cream or a stop at Tom's Burned Down (the best) for a little adventure. We feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to live at The Barn a week every summer--it really feels like our home while we are there.

Fell in love!

  • 5 of 5

This home is amazing! It was the perfect setting for a destination wedding in July. The ceremony was on the lawn with the woods and lake as a backdrop. The buffet was on the deck, fireworks were lit off the dock and lanterns were let go over the lake. We danced to the wee hours. Perfection!

12 of us stayed in the home which is spacious yet cozy with plenty of character and charming lux details. We were in awe of the vision that turned a hay barn in Vermont into a luxury home on Madeline.

We enjoyed big family breakfasts, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding and being off the grid. A haven indeed. Thank you! Cannot wait for our next visit!

Even better than anticipated

  • 5 of 5

The photos of the Barn had us excited for a beautiful unique property, but when we stepped across the threshold we were amazed. This is a work of art, but completely comfortable and welcoming. It doesn't feel like a rental property, it is like you are a guest of your favorite uncle (who has impeccable taste). I appreciated the fine cookware, grill, stemware, and basic cooking essentials. The property is beautiful and sunsets glorious. My only suggestion is some options for blinds on the windows. While privacy is not a concern, the early morning sunshine is counter to long sleep ins. Otherwise, I wouldn't change a thing. We will be back.
