The property is set at 4200 feet elevation with historic North Battle Creek running through the backyard, restored to sylvan condition and populated by wild brown trout.

Jackalope Acres isn't just a place to stay--it's a place to create memories! A family resort! Or a couples get away! With amenities available nowhere else in the area.

If you have a larger group, our neighbor has a three bed room house just around the corner, which could accommodate an additional 6 or 7 family members. Vrbo property number 774498.

Our custom Alaskan cedar hot tub, sunken into the large wrap around deck, is the perfect place to start the day watching the song birds and hummingbirds at the feeders or end it with a cocktail or a glass of wine. We also have a large sunken firepit perfect for the cool evening weather.

Jackalope Acres is set on 20 private acres with extensive trails throughout the grounds for walking, (and in winter) snow shoeing, or cross country skiing. There are multiple evergreen species, black oak, plus meadows with native grasses and flowers.

You'll see deer, foxes, dove, quail, blue heron, hawks, and even wild turkeys. Bring a basket and enjoy a picnic at the tables by creek.

Use our canoe or our kayaks at no additional charge on nearby Lake McCumber, also known for it's huge wild trout, bald eagles, and osprey.

Play croquet, badminton ,or volley ball on the grass lawn. Throw horseshoes in the firepit. Or throw the footballs, frisbees, or play catch with our balls and gloves. We have all those for you. One man's and one woman's mountain bike--and miles of roads. World class indoor outdoor ping pong table!

In winter, we have 4 sets of snow shoes for use at the acres or for Mt Lassen Park. There is a sledding hill on the property kids love. Or take our sleds up to Eskimo Hill where the locals go! Or just watch the leaves and the snow fall from the hot tub! In addition, we are 90 minutes from Mt. Shasta winter downhill skiing and snowboarding!

We love dogs and are willing to accommodate them. There is an additional $100 fee per dog as well as some doggie house rules. If you decide to book that is all explained in the rental agreement.

Bedrooms include two master suites, one in main house and the second in a gorgeous open loft, each with individual attached baths. Main house has 2 additional upstairs bedrooms (one with additional loft bed) and shared bath. Downstairs bedroom has its own hall bath. Perfect for 5 individuals or 5 couples, but with additional futon sofas in master suites, house can sleep 16.

Dozens of other world class rivers, streams, lakes, and state parks are all within 1 hour or less. World class private fishing booking are available through Fly Shop in Redding.

The house is also only 1/2 hour from the Manton Valley winery district with small wineries, a wide range of varietals and friendly, vintner staffed tasting rooms.

Great local burgers and a good deli are also available nearby.

The area is unspoiled, uncrowded, and free from the traffic and people jams of so many other California “outdoor” destinations such as Yosemite or Lake Tahoe.

About The Owner

We are urban San Franciscans who always dreamed of having a property where we could get back to nature. We grew up fishing, hiking and exploring, and we can truly say we have found the perfect escape from our busy life in the city. It is a great pleasure to share our home with friends, family and guests.

The Owner purchased this house in 2010

Why The Owner chose Shingletown

Shingletown is a quaint community, just a few miles from Lassen National Park and surrounded by pristine lakes, streams and abundant hiking. We fell in love with the property's 20 acres which are home to deer, jack rabbits and countless species of birds. Even in summer, Shingletown is never crowded. It feels remote, but it is only 45 minutes away from the town of Redding which has all the resources you might want and a great historic steakhouse named Jack's.

What makes this house unique

Looking at the skies from the backyard, you will be amazed to see so many stars!!!!

Guestbook comments from the owner

My family (of 16) and I had a GREAT experience staying at the Lassen cabin! Not only was the caretaker (Erik) present upon arrival to answer all of our questions, but there was also a booklet with LOTS of information regarding the property and things to do in the surrounding area. John & Isabel have done a great job with this cabin, everything from dishes to furnishings are not only of great quality, but also beautiful. We all had a wonderful time cooking large meals in the kitchen, which had ample supply of cooking and serving ware (great assets)! We also enjoyed all of the amenities that the home offered, such as the hot tub, fire pit, horseshoe pit, ping pong table, media room, bikes and snow sleds! Thank you again to the owners for opening up their home, it is definitely a place we hope to visit again in the near future!

Best family reunion ever

  • 5 of 5

Jacklope Acres can hold its own with any five star resort. We were a group of 35 staying at Jackalope Acres and nearby properties. Kitchen was wonderful for meal preparation. House with wrap around deck provided many spots for quiet conversations, hot tub was appreciated (especially by Mt.Lassen Peak climbers), expansive lawn with croquet and badminton setup kept all ages engaged, younger children and dogs especially enjoyed Battle Creek, kayaking and bicycling attracted more vigorous participants. Thank you, John and Isabel Yandel. We lacked for nothing.

Unanimous acclaim: Best family reunion ever

  • 5 of 5

Our group ranged in age from 3 to 88. There were suitable activities for all. The best family reunion ever for 35+ attendees coming from as far as Alaska, Florida, New York, Southern California and points between with Jacklope Acres serving as the headquarters for members staying in 3 other nearby locations. Thank you, John & Isabel Yandel.

Love this property!

  • 5 of 5

This review is VERY long overdue, but I still wanted to write one because of how much we have enjoyed this property! This was our family's second time staying at the Lassen house over the New Year, and it was no less beautiful. The house is always kept in an immaculate condition, with lots of small touches and plenty of 'extras.' Even for close to 20 people! We all enjoyed sitting out in the cedar hot tub and using the outdoor fire pit, especially the kids. We love coming to this property because it feels quite secluded, but has all the comforts of a home. Thank you again, we hope to return!

Amazing family reunion at Jackalope Acres

  • 5 of 5

Our first stay at Jackalope Acres and it was amazing! We had our family reunion of 11 and we were all able to fit on 1 table for dinner for the 1st time ever! Lounging in the backyard and in the hot tub with a view of the private forest was wonderful. Very nice and secluded. I would definitely recommend this to anyone with a large group looking for a place to get away from it all.
