Jackalope Acres is unique set on 20 private acres with extensive trails throughout the grounds for walking, (and in winter) snow shoeing, or cross country skiing. There are multiple evergreen species, black oak, plus meadows with native grasses and flowers.

You'll see deer, dove, quail, blue heron, hawks, and even wild turkeys. Bring a basket and enjoy a picnic at the table by creek.

Use our canoe or our kayaks at no additional charge on nearby Lake McCumber, also known for it's huge wild trout, bald eagles, and osprey.

We love dogs and are willing to accommodate them. There is an additional fee per dog as well as some doggie house rules. If you decide to book that is all explained in the rental agreement.

Jackolope Acres is also only 30 miles from world famous trout fishery Hat Creek.

Dozens of other world class rivers, streams, lakes, and state parks are all within 1 hour or less. World class private fishing booking are available through Fly Shop in Redding.

The house is also only 1/2 hour from the emerging Manton Valley winery district with small wineries, a wide range of varietals and friendly, vintner staffed tasting rooms.

There is a world class restaurant and an award winning winery 20 minutes away at Anselmo's. Great local burgers and a good deli are also available nearby.

The area is unspoiled, uncrowded, and free from the traffic and people jams of so many other California “outdoor” destinations such as Yosemite or Lake Tahoe.

About The Owner

We are urban San Franciscans who always dreamed of having a property where we could get back to nature. We grew up fishing, hiking and exploring, and we can truly say we have found the perfect escape from our busy life in the city. It is a great pleasure to share our home with friends, family and guests.

The Owner purchased this house in 2010

Why The Owner chose Shasta Cascade

Shingletown is a quaint community, just a few miles from Lassen National Park and surrounded by pristine lakes, streams and abundant hiking. We fell in love with the property's 20 acres which are home to deer, jack rabbits and countless species of birds. Even in summer, Shingletown is never crowded. It feels remote, but it is only 45 minutes away from the Shasta Premium Outlets and the town of Redding and its historic downtown.

What makes this house unique

Looking at the skies from the backyard, you will be amazed to see so many stars!!!!

Guestbook comments from the owner

My family (of 16) and I had a GREAT experience staying at the Lassen cabin! Not only was the caretaker (Erik) present upon arrival to answer all of our questions, but there was also a booklet with LOTS of information regarding the property and things to do in the surrounding area. John & Isabel have done a great job with this cabin, everything from dishes to furnishings are not only of great quality, but also beautiful. We all had a wonderful time cooking large meals in the kitchen, which had ample supply of cooking and serving ware (great assets)! We also enjoyed all of the amenities that the home offered, such as the hot tub, fire pit, horseshoe pit, ping pong table, media room, bikes and snow sleds! Thank you again to the owners for opening up their home, it is definitely a place we hope to visit again in the near future!

Private Retreat in the Woods

  • 5 of 5

My family had a relaxing and enjoyable long weekend at Jackalope Acres. The house was incredibly clean. Jack and Isabel provided all we needed to know in advance, and we came prepared to kick back and unplug. My two young sons absolutely loved the wooded property. There was something new to discover each time we went for a walk, whether down to the creek or along trails. We utilized all the recreation the house provided - hot tub, canoe, mountain bikes, volleyball net, badminton, etc. It was a wonderful place to make some new family memories.

Great stay. Beautiful property had everything we needed.

  • 5 of 5

We are seven hiking buddies who stayed at this property during a trip to Lassen. The property is very convenient to the northwest entrance to the park. We really enjoyed our stay. The property has lots of wildflowers, birds, a beautiful stream. Beds and linens were perfect. Kitchen was very well equipped. Our host was very attentive. I would highly recommend this property to someone visiting this beautiful part of California.

We had a wonderful time at Jackalope Acres. The place is awesome. Everything is wood. Families had a very relaxing community time. It was like in a different time and space. Management was very helpful in greeting and explaining features. A bit a a drive from Redding but worth it once your there. We went into Redding every day for Wedding activities. Cabin life is the best. Activities included Kayaking, canoe, biking, hot tub and fire pit.

Mountain Escape

  • 5 of 5

We had such a wonderful weekend with Four generations laughing, eating, fishing, and exploring. Some of the favorite features among our group was the fire pit, the creek running through the propert, the hot tub, and the fully stocked kitchen. Oh and the prime lizzard catching territory of course. The owners were so accomidating which really made planning our multi family trip a breeze. Thank you to the Yandells for opening up their home to us!

Great Trip full of life long memories

  • 5 of 5

There were 10 of us that visited Jackalope Acres this last weekend for a guys fishing Trip. We were surprised how small "battle creek" was behind the house, I had imagined it being much wider and deeper as other portions of battle creek are that we have fished over the years.. With that being said, The cabin is incredible, with an awesome out door fire pit, and an area that we used to play corn hole as well as ladder ball. We drove down to Lake McCumber and had the lake all to ourselves where we spent many hours catching Brown & Rainbow Trout. We released as many as we could, and took a few back to the cabin to BBQ. I have to say, hands down an awesome time, you can tell John and Erik are passionate about the place as well as the fishing. I will be sure to try and make it back years to come!

Owner's Response: Robbie, Glad the trip was so positive for your group! Our creek is actually North Battle Creek and passes through our property running down the mountain from it's spring fed headwaters above. North Battle Creek conjoins with South Battle Creek several miles downstream and by that time is several times larger--that may be the Battle Creek you are thinking of--as I thought we discussed! Our creek has been restored to sylvan condition, is full of small wild brown trout and is very well suited for picnics! We also find larger browns up to 16 inches down there sometimes at night. Looking forward to seeing you again!

We enjoyed a long weekend with another family at this beautiful home. The property and surrounding area are so beautiful. The owners and their host provide lots of helpful information about things to do. The house is super-stocked in the kitchen and with tons of equipment and toys for play. The beds are very comfortable. The whole experience was a perfect blend of modern comfort with amazing nature.
