We are urban San Franciscans who always dreamed of having a property where we could get back to nature. We grew up fishing, hiking and exploring, and we can truly say we have found the perfect escape from our busy life in the city. It is a great pleasure to share our home with friends, family and guests.
The Owner purchased this house in 2010
Shingletown is a quaint community, just a few miles from Lassen National Park and surrounded by pristine lakes, streams and abundant hiking. We fell in love with the property's 20 acres which are home to deer, jack rabbits and countless species of birds. Even in summer, Shingletown is never crowded. It feels remote, but it is only 45 minutes away from the Shasta Premium Outlets and the town of Redding and its historic downtown.
Looking at the skies from the backyard, you will be amazed to see so many stars!!!!
My family (of 16) and I had a GREAT experience staying at the Lassen cabin! Not only was the caretaker (Erik) present upon arrival to answer all of our questions, but there was also a booklet with LOTS of information regarding the property and things to do in the surrounding area. John & Isabel have done a great job with this cabin, everything from dishes to furnishings are not only of great quality, but also beautiful. We all had a wonderful time cooking large meals in the kitchen, which had ample supply of cooking and serving ware (great assets)! We also enjoyed all of the amenities that the home offered, such as the hot tub, fire pit, horseshoe pit, ping pong table, media room, bikes and snow sleds! Thank you again to the owners for opening up their home, it is definitely a place we hope to visit again in the near future!
There were 10 of us that visited Jackalope Acres this last weekend for a guys fishing Trip. We were surprised how small "battle creek" was behind the house, I had imagined it being much wider and deeper as other portions of battle creek are that we have fished over the years.. With that being said, The cabin is incredible, with an awesome out door fire pit, and an area that we used to play corn hole as well as ladder ball. We drove down to Lake McCumber and had the lake all to ourselves where we spent many hours catching Brown & Rainbow Trout. We released as many as we could, and took a few back to the cabin to BBQ. I have to say, hands down an awesome time, you can tell John and Erik are passionate about the place as well as the fishing. I will be sure to try and make it back years to come!
We enjoyed a long weekend with another family at this beautiful home. The property and surrounding area are so beautiful. The owners and their host provide lots of helpful information about things to do. The house is super-stocked in the kitchen and with tons of equipment and toys for play. The beds are very comfortable. The whole experience was a perfect blend of modern comfort with amazing nature.
What struck us the most about this magnificent log home was the attention to detail. The wood itself, outside and especially inside, is gorgeous. The restored creek in the backyard (20 acres of wooded and meadowed backyard!) is a small paradise. We have seen it in spring with a profusion flowers and now in winter bordered with a foot of white snow.
Everywhere you look something gives your senses pleasure. The cedar hot tub--with the cedar scent. The amazing Mayan carved masks. The elegant blend of decor and color from the kitchen to the bedrooms to the media room.
Not too many rental houses have an assortment of hot sauces, flavored vinegars, and a full spice rack with everything from the oregano to mint to cardamom. Not to mention 3 kinds of salt. Plus every kitchen appliance or tool you probably have at your home and maybe some you don't. (Make some ice cream!) In the living room there's a hard drive with a few thousand rock songs from the 50's through the '90's and a gorgeous set of mounted, swiveling computer speakers. You can dine on the deck and during the day part of the deck is in sun and part is in shade depending on your mood.
Lassen National Park, which is about 20 minutes up the road, is hardly trafficked. Take the Paradise Meadow hike for starters in summer. When it snows and you can't drive through, take the snow shoes from the house and walk around Manzanita Lake. On our summer visit we took the house kayaks and canoe to the nearby lake and saw a bald eagle.
Our older kids took a half day fly fishing float trip on the Sacramento River and released over 20 wild rainbow trout--one was 22 inches!
You feel more like a very lucky house guest here than a customer--or as my wife said--like we were running our own luxury resort for our family. 5 stars! But I'd give it 10 if I could.
The house is well kept and well stocked. The owners and property manager were extremely kind and considerate. We loved our stay here and are looking forward to going back sometime soon.
What a great place to meet up if you love nature, mountains, and quiet. Meticulous attention to details, very usable group space, wonderfully secluded and surrounded by animals and trees.
We had a large group of 16 people and we all very happy about the property. Erik the manager was very nice and helpful. The house was exactly the same as the description in the list. It is very well maintained and clean. Relaxing, beautiful, wild and peaceful environment. Highly recommend.
The secret undiscovered North State region of California around Lassen National Park is uncrowded and stunningly gorgeous. Hiking, plus kayaking and canoeing (we have the kayaks and the canoe for you!), incredible fishing, biking (we have those too!), star gazing, a small world class restaurant, wine tasting...These are just a few of your options in our neighborhood! Not to mention the amenities at our house.
