I am a retired contractor and have loved fly-fishing since the age of 12. I spent many years fishing with my sons in the Swan Valley area.
When I found this house on the Snake River, it was like a dream come true. It has provided us with wonderful family memories as our sons and their families join us for summer vacations.
The location of this home is perfect for exploring the Eastern Idaho/Western Wyoming area. We are about an hour from Jackson Hole and about 2 1/2 hours south of Yellowstone National Park. The scenery is gorgeous at any time of year.
The pictures, as beautiful as they look, don't even describe how nice this place is. Very clean, well maintained and well stocked. The back deck, overlooking the river, was our favorite part. We ate almost every meal out on the deck. Palisades Reservoir, nearby, is a beautiful boating and fishing lake. Great for water skiing and not at all crowded. Trail head for running/hiking trails up Palisades canyon to the two Palisades natural lakes are very close. We saw moose, eagles, pelicans and more. We had planned to spend an afternoon and dinner in Jackson, but we decided we'd rather stay here and fix our own meal and enjoy yet another evening on the deck and around the fire pit. No regrets. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice getaway in beautiful surroundings.
This is the second year I've stayed at this very comfortable riverfront home/lodge.
It located along the finest stretches of fly fishing water in the country. Lots of good
sized Rainbows, German Browns & Cuttthroats. And the fishing begins nearly off
the backporch. A driftboat is available for rent from the owners or one can rent a
boat and guide from operators in the area.
The home itself is very roomy and comfortable for any season of the year. I was
there in the Fall and early Summer. The fall colors are spectacular on the surrounding
mountains. The home is surrounded by a lush lawn which makes it a perfect place for
children to play - - or practice your fly casting techniques. There's also an area for
a campfire. It's off the road which makes it very quiet.
The home is well appointed with all the creature comforts. A beautiful kitchen which
looks out on the backporch, lush lawn and rolling river. Many comfortable beds in 4
separate bedrooms and bathrooms which gives lots of privacy for multi-family use. It has
a huge deck which runs along the entire back portion of the house. Great for BBQ's and
For those who wish to sightsee in the area, both Idaho Falls and Jackson Hole are less
than an hour away. Lots of good restaurants and fun shopping in both.
If you love the outdoors, great fishing, and all around serenity of a mountain vacation,
I can think of no better area and home to stay. Enjoy!!!
I have stayed here several times over the past few years and found amenities, atmosphere, and location uncomparable. I live in the mountains near a scenic lake and river, and when I say that this lodge and surrounding property are breathtaking, I am comparing them to one of the finest fishing, vacation, and recreational areas in the country. If you are into shopping you will need a car and a day, but if you are into fishing, just grab a pole and step out the back door. You will not be disappointed.
We have stayed at this Lodge on several occasions at different times of the year. It is well maintained, completely equipped and very clean. Our favorite time of the year to visit is late September. The foliage has turned and is as beautiful as anything we have seen in the New England area when the colors change. The wildlife is abundant and often can be seen without setting foot off the deck. When we want a night out, the Rockefeller fishing camp and restaurant is nearby for cocktails and dinner. We always return home completely relaxed after a vacation at Snake River Lodge. We'll visit there again in 2012.
This is a beautiful, well-appointed home right on the Snake River in lovely Swan Valley, nestled between two mountain ranges. There is a feeling of peace and seclusion as it is well off the highway, and there are no adjacent homes. You can sit on the deck and watch the river go by as eagles, osprey, and white pelicans soar over head. Jackson and Idaho Falls are less than an hour away. The house is spacious, clean, and very comfortable. I have enjoyed many a delightful stay in this home, and I would heartily recommend it to others.
The house is beautiful and well maintained. Very cozy and comfortable for any time of year. It has a big fireplace, if the snow season is your thing. All you will need is at hand for a worryfree vacation. Just move in.
The location is wonderful and you can see the Palisades dam upstream from the lodge. Palisades Resouvoir is a huge lake, excellent for boating or waterskiing. Or fish for trout or drift the southfork. The lodge is well off the road, therefore a peaceful, relaxing time can be expected on your visit.
If you drive downstream along the river a few miles there is a cutoff off at the Swan Valley intersection. Taking the cutoff brings you through the Teton mountains into Victor, Idaho, then onto the famous Teton Village, or a little further on into Jackson Hole, Wyoming. That trip is less than one hour. There is no other place on earth where you can see so much wildlife and spectacular scenery as in Teton National Park or Yellowstone. The scenery at Coulter Bay is absolutely world class. We particularly enjoyed whitewater rafting and seeing the buffalo herds.
For a quiet evening, flyfish on the southfork. Its out the lodge's back door. Rainbow trout is your most likely catch.
The owners are really nice folks, very helpful in getting you oriented and will be happy to answer questions you may have. I have been at the lodge twice, and would go again in a heartbeat. Its my kind of living :-) .
Palisades Reservoir is 2 miles east of our location. Good for boating, swimming, kayaking, fishing, and wildlife viewing. White-water rafting is located south of Jackson Hole, approximately 45-60 minutes away from our location.
