Why Jim chose Oconomowoc
This property has been in our family for a number of years. The home is now used as a family vacation home. Rather than sell the home, we prefer to rent out the home so other families can enjoy the home and make memories with their families. The home is located in a secluded area, but still less than a mile from the town of Oconomowoc. Everyone loves seeing the wildlife, fishing and swimming in the lake.
What makes this House unique
The home has a large great home, enough room for everyone, young children like playing in the large room, the sandy beach which is shallow is wonderful place for young children to enjoy the warm summer water.

We returned this year for another great stay!
Our group of 10 college friends enjoyed our stay in this rental property so much several years ago that we returned for another gathering in early June 2017. The amenities of this property are perfect for our large group. There are sufficient bedrooms and bathrooms to meet the needs of 10 women! The kitchen has enough space for us to cook for our large group (the extra refrigerator in the garage gave us room for extra bottles of wine!). The large common area offered several areas to be together as a group. The long table was where we lingered to talk after our meals. We all sat around the couches by the fireplace for late nights chats. And, throughout the day, we all enjoyed the seating area by the large windows that offered a peaceful and beautiful view of the lake. During the times we were lounging outside by the lake, we took advantage of relaxing on floats in the water, canoeing, and paddle boarding (I had fun paddle boarding for the first time!) The owners are delightful to work with and provided excellent service. I would highly recommend this property to any family or group that is looking for a getaway for any length of time.
Beautiful spacious home with gorgeous views
Loved this beautiful home!! Stayed with 10 friends from college and had a wonderful experience and had more than enough room to be very comfortable and relaxed. The house was very clean and had all the amenities you would need for time away from home. The owners are great and very accommodating. Bedrooms and bathrooms are spacious and comfortable and afforded us privacy as well. The floor-to-ceiling windows gave us a beautiful view of the lake and we spent much of our time sitting by the fireplace in the great room chatting and looking at the beautiful views. We also had fun sitting at the lake and enjoying the great breeze and water activities. The kitchen is large enough for cooking meals for a group of our size and there are also great restaurants in the area to enjoy. I highly recommend this property.
The house was perfect for a ladies get away... we were seven in total. We celebrated a 82nd birthday while staying at the Lake house. The house was very comfortable and very well appointed. The house exceeded our expectations and needs. We all loved the specious living room with gas fireplace.
We all agreed that we would like to make this lake home our annual destination spot. Loved the house!!!
Nice house - Not so nice owner
Although this house is lovely, the description is not completely accurate and the owner decided to keep $50 of our security deposit accusing us of having damaged a chair. I have asked, very politely, several times for a description of the damage; and my only response was that it was "broken". That's a very broad adjective for damage. When I asked for a picture of the damage and a copy of the repair bill he said that his handyman was able to fix the chair and have it ready for the next renters who were expected the day we checked out. So, there couldn't have been much damage; and, the owner obviously didn't pay $50 to repair it. He still never explain how the chair was "broken". I asked my family, everyone who was with us on the vacation, if a chair had been damaged and all replied "no". I told the owner that we never even moved the chairs from around the table. My last email to the owner was last week and again he has not replied.
I might have overlooked some of the details below and given a better rating had the owner not been so hard to deal with:
The property is NOT wheelchair accessible. I told the owner in advance that our 29 year old son was a wheelchair user. The front entrance has one high step. The only other entrance has two shallower steps. Our son had to request and wait for assistance in entering and exiting. The bathroom door is not wide enough for a wheelchair to pass through. The upstairs bathroom does not have a typical door. It has saloon type swinging doors with a shower curtain. The 1/2 bath is outside.
When we arrived there was a note on the dishwasher stating that is was broken and a new one would be installed on Monday, which it was. Nonetheless, I had to hand wash the dishes for 2 of the 7 day vacation. There was also a note on the fridge saying not to use the ice maker as it clogs. We were to use ice trays. Not convenient for filling coolers. There was only enough propane for one meal on the grill.
The property is NOT a "short walk" to town. You could walk it, but it is about 2 to 3 miles away. Having a home that is truly walking distance to town has always been a selling point for us.
Our family has been renting around the country and Canada for 9 years and I have never had to submit a bad review.
The home is lovely as is the lake, but there are other lovely places to rent which are more true to description and have more co-operative owners.
We strive to maintain a lovely home for our renters. When items break, we realize it may be an incovenience for our renters but we try to respond quickly to their concerns such as replacing a dishwasher. When renting homes in areas that are unfamiliar, we encourage our renters to ask questions and obtain information about the local areas. While some renters consider the walk or bicycle ride to town a short walk or ride. With all of the technology available today, potential renters can do alot of research on a property before renting it.
We ask for a security deposit to cover the cost when items break, The sole purpose of the security deposit is to ensure we are rerimbursed when items break. From time to time items are broken which a renter may not realize were broken during their stay. This renter believed they didn't break the chair; however, the chair was broken and the renter has been provided with pictures of the broken chair.
Rather than dwell on the $50 repair charge, here is what this renter wrote in our guest book before I returned all of their security deposit quickly except for the $50 to repair the chair.
"We had a wonderful week with our childrenand gran-children Lovely home-perfect shallow sandy lake. We had a great time."
Great View ..... Lake House
Enjoyed our stay although too short. Perfect location of house to the lake. Couldn't ask for a better view from the yard or the house. House was very, very
clean. Nice bathrooms with walk-in showers. We cooked and grilled out. Also ate at Spinnakers. Like the decor at Spinnakers. Very quiet and peaceful
location. 4 people had more room than we needed.
a wonderful place to stay
We had a wonderful week at this lovely home. This is our second year renting and we can't beat the sandy bottom that is shallow enough for our kids to swim in to the end of the dock. Large home with enough room for all of us. Very clean. We enjoyed making memories here. Would rent again.
