Overview

About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms + Other (See Dehttps://admin.vscription), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4-6)

A Mountain Rose is a cozy, two bedroom home in the magnificent pines and cedars of Pollock Pines in the Sierra Mountains. The trees are bountiful and their smells are relaxing and refreshing!

Our home is located two miles from Hwy 50 and about 50 miles from both Sacramento and South Lake Tahoe. Just a quick drive to the famous Apple Hill area or Placerville.

Our little house in the woods is a great place for a romantic getaway, families, or friends. It is decorated in a fashion to make everyone's stay feel extra special. It's not like a musty old cabin in the woods. Our hardwood floors help to make our home even more charming. We have complimentary WIFI for those who just can't leave technology at home. We consider long term rentals. Please come and enjoy the relaxation and smells of the pines after a day of adventure and fun!

Our well-stocked kitchen is a delight to prepare meals for family and friends. You may enjoy eating at our breakfast bar or at our dining room table that may be extended for larger groups. Maybe you would enjoy BBQing and eating outside instead? There are tables both in the front and backyards. It is so relaxing to eat and chat outside.

We have a wonderful cozy fireplace to warm you up or you may want to venture outside and enjoy our fire pit and gaze into the night sky to check out the stars. You may want to roast marshmallow and make delicious s'mores! A Mountain Rose is like camping in luxury!

At A Mountain Rose, we have many activities for the family, including an array of board games, croquet, air hockey and even a ping-pong table. We have a TV and offer many DVD's for your enjoyment. We belong to the local homeowner's association, so you may enjoy the two swimming pools (Memorial Day-Labor Day), basketball half-court, tennis court, disc range or other activities. There is something to keep everyone busy!

Nearby is the very popular Sly Park Recreation Area with the beautiful Jenkinson Lake. It has 645 acres of surface water and great fishing opportunities. The lake has a boat launch and a boat rental facility. (Kayaks, canoes, pedal boats and row boats) Of course if you want to bring your own boat, we have plenty of parking. Swimming and water skiing are allowed, but personal water crafts are not. In the winter, you may go snow shoeing, sledding or just play in the snow. It's just a spectacular setting for many outdoor activities!

For the Apple Hill (Camino) lovers, we are less than ten miles from this special area! In April there is the Apple Blossom Festival. In the summer is the cherry and berry harvest. In the fall months, the traditional harvest season is in full swing. You can enjoy the cornucopia of fruits, ciders, vegetables, wines, baked goods and homemade preserves. Of course in winter, you can start your own family traditions as you cut down your own Christmas tree and enjoy the magic in the air! Oh I forgot, you may want to visit a local winery and bring some back to enjoy!

Do you love snow skiing? Then you'll be glad to hear that we're about 35 miles from Sierra at Tahoe or about 50 miles from Heavenly Mountain Resort.

We are about 15 miles from the charming historical 'Gold Rush' town of Placerville. It is a peaceful blend of old and new that offers something for everyone. There is a lot to do and you can easily spend the day exploring the area.

If you're into gambling, then Red Hawk Casino is about 20 miles away. They have slot machines, gambling tables, restaurants and entertainment.

There is so much to do! Of course, you can just sit on the front deck, relax and enjoy a book and your favorite beverage!!!!

About Catherine

My husband and I live full time in the San Francisco Bay Area and love the foothills and mountains of the Sierras.

Catherine purchased this house in 2011

Why Catherine chose Gold Country / High Sierra

We love the Sierras and decided we wanted a place to escape that had lots of trees and allowed us to relax. We wanted a place that felt remote, yet wasn't too far into the snow country (4000ft) or too far from modern conveniences. We were lucky to find A Mountain Rose! It almost feels like you're camping, but you're able to cook and sleep in luxury! We love our home in the mountains! We also wanted a place to share with our family for generations. We fell in love with A Mountain Rose. It is surrounded by pines and cedars. It's a quick walk to the heated swimming pools, playground, and tennis courts. It's about 2 miles to Sly Park Recreation area and about 35 miles to Sierra at Tahoe. It offers something for all ages!

Excellent find in the forest.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed a couple weeks, between moves, and enjoyed every day we were here. It was difficult finding a rental that would accept pets, so this was a major plus. Add in the amenities and quiet setting, it was ideal for my wife and I.

A Perfect Getaway

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful, peaceful home base for exploring the beautiful mountain environment! Meals on the patio looking out at cedars, seeing deer and birds everywhere. But best of all was star gazing and seeing the Milky Way above. We also visited nearby wineries on the winding roads of Camino and Apple Hill. The house was well equipped and oh so comfortable. We can't wait to return!

Redwoods! Ping pong! Comfy beds!

  • 5 of 5

This is a great house for a small family stay or romantic get-away. We stayed in the summer- expansive yard, ping pong with the garage door open was fun. Kitchen has all you need and more. Huge choice of classic, and award winning and quirky films. Fun and homey art. Nice decortative touches. Ceiling fans, a nice dining room nook for dinners inside, patio outside. It's location near Jenkinson Lake is perfect. Also, we took a hike up into the Eldorado National Forest to the Bassi Falls.

Home Away From Home

  • 4 of 5

The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the lack of a second bathroom. Other than that, this place is perfect.

Having said that, I have stayed here twice now. And I would definitely consider it on my next trip as well.

The location is excellent for adventuring out around Gold Country and beyond.

The kitchen is stocked just about as well as anyone's home, making it convenient to have meals there out on the peaceful patio under the welcoming big trees.

This home is comfortable and relaxing. It's roomy yet cozy.

Having a fenced yard for the dog was a big bonus.

If you don't mind sharing a bathroom, I would definitely recommend A Mountain Rose if you're visiting the area.

The owners make sure you're comfortable and welcome and that your stay is hassle-free.

Thanks Catherine for making our visits so easy.

Nice and functional place at good price.

  • 5 of 5

Good location, close to pool and a short drive to the lake. They have made the most out of a small place. We liked that everything was well stocked. Only negative was the tiny shower. We will definitely stay here again.
