|Minimum Stay||2 - 4 nights|
A Mountain Rose is a cozy, two bedroom home in the magnificent pines and cedars of Pollock Pines in the Sierra Mountains. The trees are bountiful and their smells are relaxing and refreshing!
Our home is located two miles from Hwy 50 and about 50 miles from both Sacramento and South Lake Tahoe. Just a quick drive to the famous Apple Hill area or Placerville.
Our little house in the woods is a great place for a romantic getaway, families, or friends. It is decorated in a fashion to make everyone's stay feel extra special. It's not like a musty old cabin in the woods. Our newer hardwood floors and carpets help to make our home even more charming. We have complimentary WIFI for those who just can't leave technology at home. We consider long term rentals. Please come and enjoy the relaxation and smells of the pines after a day of adventure and fun!
Our well-stocked kitchen has been recently updated, so it is a delight to prepare meals for family and friends. You may enjoy eating at our breakfast bar or at our dining room table that may be extended for larger groups. Maybe you would enjoy BBQing and eating outside instead? There are tables both in the front and backyards. It is so relaxing to eat and chat outside.
We have a wonderful cozy fireplace to warm you up or you may want to venture outside and enjoy our fire pit and gaze into the night sky to check out the stars. You may want to roast marshmallow and make delicious s'mores! A Mountain Rose is like camping in luxury!
At A Mountain Rose, we have many activities for the family, including an array of board games, croquet, air hockey and even a ping-pong table. We have a TV and offer many DVD's for your enjoyment. We belong to the local homeowner's association, so you may enjoy the two swimming pools (Memorial Day-Labor Day), basketball half-court, tennis court, disc range or other activities. There is something to keep everyone busy!
Nearby is the very popular Sly Park Recreation Area with the beautiful Jenkinson Lake. It has 645 acres of surface water and great fishing opportunities. The lake has a boat launch and a boat rental facility. (Kayaks, canoes, pedal boats and row boats) Of course if you want to bring your own boat, we have plenty of parking. Swimming and water skiing are allowed, but personal water crafts are not. In the winter, you may go snow shoeing, sledding or just play in the snow. It's just a spectacular setting for many outdoor activities!
For the Apple Hill (Camino) lovers, we are less than ten miles from this special area! In April there is the Apple Blossom Festival. In the summer is the cherry and berry harvest. In the fall months, the traditional harvest season is in full swing. You can enjoy the cornucopia of fruits, ciders, vegetables, wines, baked goods and homemade preserves. Of course in winter, you can start your own family traditions as you cut down your own Christmas tree and enjoy the magic in the air! Oh I forgot, you may want to visit a local winery and bring some back to enjoy!
Do you love snow skiing? Then you'll be glad to hear that we're about 35 miles from Sierra at Tahoe or about 50 miles from Heavenly Mountain Resort.
We are about 15 miles from the charming historical 'Gold Rush' town of Placerville. It is a peaceful blend of old and new that offers something for everyone. There is a lot to do and you can easily spend the day exploring the area.
If you're into gambling, then Red Hawk Casino is about 20 miles away. They have slot machines, gambling tables, restaurants and entertainment.
There is so much to do! Of course, you can just sit on the front deck, relax and enjoy a book and your favorite beverage!!!!

My husband and I live full time in the San Francisco Bay Area and love the foothills and mountains of the Sierras.
Catherine purchased this house in 2011
We love the Sierras and decided we wanted a place to escape that had lots of trees and allowed us to relax. We wanted a place that felt remote, yet wasn't too far into the snow country (4000ft) or too far from modern conveniences. We were lucky to find A Mountain Rose! It almost feels like you're camping, but you're able to cook and sleep in luxury! We love our home in the mountains! We also wanted a place to share with our family for generations. We fell in love with A Mountain Rose. It is surrounded by pines and cedars. It's a quick walk to the heated swimming pools, playground, and tennis courts. It's about 2 miles to Sly Park Recreation area and about 35 miles to Sierra at Tahoe. It offers something for all ages!
The house was perfect for my party (2 couples and a toddler). It is small but cozy with all the amenities that anyone would need in the mountain. The fireplace was our favorite part of the house! So warm and cozy. And for our husbands, they loved Netflix!! We did not have the opportunity to use the grill or fire pit but perfect for smores! It is really close to Apple Hill which was our purpose. Catherine was easy to get ahold of and so very welcoming. She has little brochures for restaurants and "things to do." She was always available if we needed her. Overall it was an incredible stay! It's a gem!
We wanted to take the family to the snow in the Tahoe area for President's weekend but could not find a house to rent! We stumbled across A Mountain Rose and it turned out to be a perfect get away. The house was well equipped with everything we needed and Catherine was a very responsive and caring host. We were 45 minutes away from Sierra at Tahoe and rented skis on the way up at Strawberry which saved us time and money. It was a breeze to return to Pollock Pines after skiing as cars returning to the Tahoe area from Sierra at Tahoe took 2 hours for that return trip.
The ping pong table in the garage was a huge hit for my teens!
We would be happy to repeat our trip and try out the summer activities as well. Thank you to Catherine for a lovely stay!
We'd unexpexpectedly found ourselves moving from So. CA to No. CA six months sooner than planned and needed an affordable vacation rental for an indeterminate time period. A Mountain Rose fulfilled all of our needs at what could have been a stressful time. First, the vibrant and friendly owner, Catherine, responded to my inquiry promptly thus excluding other choices we might have considered. She remained in close contact throughout the planning stages of our journey and throughout our stay, never being intrusive but wanting to be helpful and mindful that our needs were met.
As for the home, it is situated in a lovely neighborhood that immediately had us feeling at home and the snowfall arriving shortly after we did only added to the ambience. We did not utilize the large backyard which remained mostly covered in snow but it would provide a larger group or visiting friends/family room for many activities if you are not busy at the ping pong table located in the secured garage.
The living room is cozy with a fireplace and comfortable seating that is sometimes not found in vacation rentals. Again, the mountain home's cozy ambience allowed us to relax and not worry about anything as our needs were met. There is plenty of dish ware, utensils, and cooking items so we saved money on eating out and the local Safeway and CVS were a few minutes away if we decided last minute on some ice cream or needed to pick up other items.
We stayed warm and cozy the entire seven weeks - thank goodness the washer and dryer worked well, and there were plenty of extra blankets should the night be chilly.
I would recommend A Mountain Rose for all types of visitors - families, couples, young and old. We felt welcomed, stayed comfortable, wanted for nothing, and made friends in this Pollock Pines gem of an affordable vacation home in a locale that rivals Lake Tahoe where one would find a lot more traffic, higher costs and chains required! We felt we made an excellent choice and hope others make the most of their time in the area while traveling, moving or looking for a new adventure.
The interior is nicer in person than in the pictures. The beds were very comfortable. The kitchen has everything you need, but I would advise bringing your own frying pans the ones there do not cook evenly. I did like how they have everything explained in there binder. The ping pong table was a lot of fun and so was the fire pit. I would have given it an excellent rating but I was a little disappointed how close we were to the neighbors. It is only 15-20 minutes to Apple Hill which was a lot of fun!
We are a retired couple from SF Bay Area who travel with our dog. We stayed 4 absolutely wonderful nights at A Mountain Rose. The reason for our trip was to join up with our Hiking Club who were all staying at the Best Western (much to their regret once they saw A Mountain Rose!) This lovely home is everything and more than the photos show. We have rented many vacation homes in 3 states and A Mountain Rose goes to the top of our favorites list now!
Here are some of the reasons: spotlessly clean (!), really fully-equipped kitchen, laundry room, luxurious bed linens & comfy beds, couch, chairs to sink into & relax, wifi, hot shower, HUGE fenced backyard (our dog loved it!), great patio seating front and back (we seated 30 hikers before the hike!), 2 BBQs, fire pit, ping pong in the garage, games in the house, more pine trees than you can count & wonderful pine scent & peace & quiet! And, that's the short list!
As for Catherine, what can we say? She is an absolute delight - so thoughtful, caring and wanting you to enjoy this very special place. She & her husband live in the Bay Area but check in with you & make sure you have everything you need.
And then there's the stunningly beautiful area of Pollock Pines. A highlight for us was hiking to the gorgeous waterfall at Jenkinson Lake. If you're there in the Spring when the water is released, don't miss it! And, if you also enjoy a wine-good-time, this area is for you! Oh, and be sure to visit (dogs welcome) Placerville Hardware on Main Street in Placerville, the oldest (1852) hardware store west of the Mississippi. You could spend a day in there & not see it all!
In closing, THANK YOU, Catherine for such a memorable time! There is still gold in the gold country. You proved it to us! A Mountain Rose is truly a GEM! We will return!

A Mountain Rose is a breath of fresh air. Hosts gave clear and easy instructions. Nicely decorated and comfortable home feeling. The backyard fireplace was fabulous. We fished and hiked at Sly Park, Jenkinson Lake Recreation Area. I highly recommend this rental for your stay-would book again!!
