Nice condo high in the mountains! Perfect for a family with a kid (one in our case). Kristen was very nice and gave us detailed email in advance to our stay. The condo was in a clean and welcoming condition with view to the lake and the mountains. The only one thing we would recommend the host is leaving humidifiers in each bedroom since the altitude is so high.
The pictures do it no justice. This place is amazing to stay at. Every detail is thought of and because of its location, it is so very peaceful. If you love nature and luxury licing then book this.
The area was beautiful. The condo was okay but needed some upkeep. It was clean and the beds were comfortable. The fridge, however, was full of expired food-which we had to clear out. The kitchen only had one lightbulb working . After searching we did locate some bulbs to replace the others. We loved the lake and spent several days fishing.
This is a rather magical property, beautifully appointed, amply equipped, tastefully decorated, and redolent with interesting history. As I understand it (from conversations with the delightfully friendly neighbors) the property was built as high altitude athlete training accommodation for the 1976 Winter Olympics.
The location is second to none; just the drive up to St. Mary's Glacier from the main road is memorable, especially for lowlanders like my family. You are within an hour's drive of both skiing and winter activities to the west, the city of Denver to the east, and 20 minutes of historic Georgetown to the South.
I won't go into much detail about the unit itself except to say that the photographs don't do it justice, it's a huge floorplan. There's ample space for a blow up mattress if you have more people than there are beds. The kitchen is fully equipped and was, at least for our stay, stocked with the necessities; coffee, sugar, etc. I get the impression that the whole kitchen had been recently remodeled, though the nice original cabinetry remained. There are three large screen TVs with DirecTV service and high speed internet. Our phones (AT&T) worked fine, though without 4g data service (we just used the unit's broadband)
There was an admirable amount of spare bedding, as well as ample towels. Indeed the overall vibe was one of staying at a friend's nicely appointed home. Just don't forget to bring change for the laundry machines.
The only downside we experienced was not the fault of the property, rather our own frailty. I measured an altitude of 10,500 feet at the property itself, and the air is very thin and very dry. The walk up two flights of steps from the laundry room is quite enough to leave an acclimatized person slightly winded. My kids (5 and 7) were just fine, albeit a bit snuffly towards the end of the trip, as was my mother in law who is evidently made of sterner stuff and my wife and I; both of us suffered a bit of altitude sickness in the beginning and some trouble breathing at night. Picking up a humidifier in town helped a bit, as did keeping hydrated, but there's no escaping the fact that this property is very high indeed. We arrived nursing the tail end of winter colds which didn't help either. So take that for what it's worth, be thoughtful if you have respiratory issues. Oh, and a 4x4 is helpful in winter. And don't trust your GPS, you must take Fall River Road because Rainbow Road from the west is a dead end.
The condo is absolutely beautiful!! It's filled with everything to make your stay perfect!! Large TVs, movies, a wii and so much more!! What an amazing location!! We had the best vacation of our life! There are so many things to do in this area!! My kids can't wait to come back!! You can't go wrong when you stay here!!!
Very overpriced, as well as very disappointing... One bathroom, complete with a broken toilet and enough hot water from the 20 gallon hot water heater for multiple people to each get a 3 minute shower, 10" flat screen tv's in bedrooms so small you can't even see the channel guide. Broken furniture throughout, rocking chairs that has been glued together, couch that is broken in the middle. Doors that don't shut, fridge that can't open all the way. Beautiful lake, but I should have slept in my car. Sad!!!
Just minutes away from Idaho Springs which offers many delicious restaurants and cute local shops. Also Safeway is in the middle of town for all of your grocery shopping needs.
