The july fourth review by Mekraz is an unfortunate and unfair retaliation due to the fact that he made me wait 4 hours because they where going to sneak 2 extra guests in, and did. I contacted homeaway and they did nothing about it so i'm stuck with the bad review I drive by the cabin frequently because i live down that road and pretty much everything else is untrue as you can see by my reviews since then .i'm in the process of trying to get that unfair review removed

Please don't be so disrespectful as to bring uninvited people. if you can't afford it let me know and i'll try to work it out for your friends to stay

A list of descriptive words to give you an idea of this place

This is a real pennsylvania mountain style family cabin over many years friends and family have work hard and proudly with limited resources to make it as comfortable and fun as possible

I am an eccentric artist who loves to use repurposed upcycled eclectic old used occasional road noise from local farmers and friendly amish neighbours horse and buggies clapping by slowing down traffic and making you reconsider why you're going so fast in the first place ,babbling brook, refurbished handmade hand-me-down shabby chic off the grid artsy funkey creative found used old doors and windows antiques rustic original art ,anti-racist ,ivory and ebony ,cabin, bungalow mountain shack asymmetrical out of plumb not level wavy beautiful and yes it was a deer camp ,and the idea is sustainability fun and joy.

If every word in this description beings lovely images to mind makes you smile or gives you a warm fuzzy feeling you will have an awesome time and i will love having you .

On the other hand if you have bad images or are disturbed, please swipe left .You will enjoy your stay and I will love having you. I'm not doing this to make money i'm doing it because i enjoy making beautiful wonderful interesting fun things to share with good people most of the money goes back into the property need to make it more sustainable. Unfair and i'm kind reviews do not mater other than the fact i work very hard to please the people who come to my place and i do my absolute best to make it super nice for them and for myself .And it hurts my feelings when people are unkind and unfair

Our Cottage:

You will have a hard time getting out of our comfy queen size bed in the master bedroom while enjoying the serene view of the forest through our sliding glass picture window. Cook up a storm in our spacious kitchen and dining area, fully equipped with cook top, refrigerator, blender, coffee maker, plenty of counter space and well supplied with cooking implements, dishes, etc. The cottage also has a cozy living room, another bedroom with bunk bed on top and full size bed on bottom , a normal small bathroom with and as in many cabins the hot waterheater is located in a corner of the bath room, shower sink toilet

Has my appreciated and grateful guests often say ,as they walk into the cabin this smells just like a cabin should smell .if you're accustomed to artificial smells such as formaldehyde off gassing chemicals such as found in not environmentally conscious non green housing you may not like it.

It smells of old wood old books water running over stone, ferns and everything wild and foresty. This is an anti pesticide and herbicide anti off gassing environment

Things to Do Nearby:

The cabin. is surrounded by beautiful nature and countryside for walking and biking. There are two adult Haker bikes at the cabin that you are welcome to use. The area has many excellent options for cycling, hiking, swimming, tubing, flyfishing, hunting, and other outdoor activities. Cyclists and hikers can choose between gentle routes along creek roads, hilly countryside routes, or tough mountain trails. We are right next to Woodward Camp, Woodward Cave and Bald Eagle State Park and are 5 miles from the town of Millheim which has grocery store, farmers market (Saturdays), coffee shop, art gallery, brew-pub, wine shop, churches, meat market, hardware, variety store, pizza shop, etc. Live music and other cultural events going on all the time in Millheim, ask about local entertainment schedule for your dates. We are also close to Amish farms, markets, harness shops and fabric shops. We are halfway between State College (Penn State University) and Lewisburg (Bucknell University). Also nearby: Penns Cave, Tussey Mountain (skiing, golf course, etc), The Round Barn, Boalsburg, Bellefonte, Grange Faire, and many other interesting locations.

About David

We are artists, designers, builders, and world travelers. We love to make friends and entertain. We live in Central Pennsylvania and in Central America.

David purchased this cottage in 2013

Why David chose Allegheny Mountains

When we first saw that this property was for sale and walked around it, we immediately fell in love. The converging, spring fed mountain streams gurgling their way through mossy stones and tower hemlock and pine trees is both breathtakingly beautiful and serenely relaxing.

What makes this cottage unique

All of our projects are environmentally conscious and a large percentage of the profits go towards making improvements that reduce our environmental impact. By sharing this property with us, you also are helping us reach our sustainability goals.

As us for advice on the best places to do outdoor activities known only to locals. for example, there is a place you can go tubing in Penns Creek in which the creek goes in one giant loop with an old tunnel through the hill in between so you can tube all day and only have to walk five minutes between your start and end point. It is magical!

Great time at the cozy cabin

  • 4 of 5

We had a beautiful long weekend at this adorable cabin. We had beautiful weather so spent a lot of time by the fire, listening to the babbling stream and relaxing outdoors. When we arrived, we were greeted by two lovely Amish girls who gave a tour of the cabin.Nice, clean cozy cabin with enough room for all 5 of us! David was easy to work with and responsive to questions. Enjoyed our time in Woodward! Thank you!!!

Do not rent this house!!!

  • 1 of 5

So when I first researched houses to rent up here while on vacation with my wife, I saw this house got good reviews. Just prior to leaving for our trip by a few days I looked again and saw two negative reviews. At that point it was too late to get a refund of my money so we hoped for the best and left for our trip anyways.

Once getting there and meeting the owner I would say the two previous negative reviews of the property were correct. There are several piles of lumber in front of the property which sits about 50 feet off the road. You have neighbors on both sides of you so the lot is fairly small but you do have 3 springs that come out of the mountain there that is gorgeous. That is the best thing about the property.

The cabin could be classified as rustic. We had to meet the owner to get our key which I think is unnecessary. Really it is so he can feel out who is renting his property. He failed to tell us the road was closed down the street even though he knew, added 20 minutes to our drive time. He then showed us stuff we didn't need to be shown and told us they don't lock the doors on their property. Once he left I got to really look at the house.

My best rating is the house is a fire trap. No smoke detectors, he told us the gas appliance was partially broke but he didn't know how (okay so is there a gas leak maybe?), broken light switch in the bedroom, loose electrical switch/wiring in the storage room, and a rag hanging over the kitchen light so you don't directly see the bulb. He also had other lights strings hanging up around the house for lighting and the house smelled bad. You could tell the owner was fixing up the place himself.

The bed was miserable. Two mattresses stacked on top of two box springs that he probably got for free from the dump. They caved in the middle and shook with every move so getting a comfortable nights sleep does not happen. The picture of the bedroom is old, it now has a sliding glass door that doesn't lock and a ratty old shower curtain over the window as your privacy.

We left after 1 night and called the owner. When I told him we slept horribly and the elec. issues he said "oh you a city boy huh." Enough said, I'm not a city boy but when I pay to stay at your place, I expect to at least get some sleep and be respected by the owner if I had concerns. The rest of my discussion went downhill as I could tell he didn't care what I said. Don't rent this place, better places nearby for a good price.

Awesome spot, great cabin

  • 5 of 5

We totally enjoyed our 3 nights at David's cabin and hope to return soon. The setting is peaceful (with occasional road and farm noises and friendly Amish neighbors passing from time to time); you can hear the stream gurgling even when inside and the pines around the property are fantastic. The cabin was comfortable and as pictured/advertised; it had basically everything we needed (we were not looking for a luxury spot) with some nice extras (interesting things on the walls, books, games, capacity for playing movies or music, some staples in the pantry, two bikes). We cooked outside (fire pit, gas grill and hibachi; plenty of kindling on the ground but we were glad we brought a few logs). David readily answered questions before and when we arrived, and he checked in by text during our stay.

We have rented / stayed in a number of cabins in Central PA over the years -- for me, this one was almost heaven because of the stream right outside, the cabin itself, and the seclusion coupled with interesting and/or handy places to drive to. When can we go back?!

Relaxing!

  • 4 of 5

This cabin was in a great location to kick back and relax. Lots of activity of Amish buggies but we totally enjoyed the sound of the horses and buggies going by. This is a cabin in the truest sense of the word. No frills but it has the basics needed to be comfortable. We spent most of the time outside. There is a deck under construction by the friendly owner but it is useable as is. Right on the stream so if you like the sound of running water, you will be very content. The only drawback to this place was the sap from the trees. Just be careful where you sit and you'll be fine!

Dirty, not rustic

  • 1 of 5

First let me start off by saying I wish I had read the previous review on July 4th which would have made my decision NOT to stay there. When we drove up to the cabin we had to double check that we were in the right place because the front no longer looks like the photos the owner has posted. The shutters are gone and there is building debris and wood piled all over. David told us to give him a 20 minute head start so he could meet us there, but never did. We waited over an hour, left and came back, then found the front door unlocked and the key on the kitchen table. The first room you walk into, the porch, had a filthy futon with a dirty blanket on it. When we entered the kitchen we found a mouse dropping on the leather chair. There is tulle draped from one side of the cabinets to the other over the kitchen window and sink that is full of dirt and dead bugs. Next we looked for the bathroom. You enter it by walking through the second bedroom, where the floor first slopes down, then up again. The bathroom floor was soft and the toilet rocked when you sat on it...as if you could with the giant water heater stuck between it and the sink. There were dead bugs and dirt in every corner and on the floors. The musty smell was awful. There are two guest books in the kitchen. One ends in 2014 and the new one started with one review on July 21 2017. Where are the rest? How was that even a good review? I swear I read good ones before we booked...had I seen that bathroom or read the most recent review, I would never have booked this rental. We actually brought our own blankets and pillows in from the van (which we almost slept in) to use on the bed so we didn't have to touch any bedding. When I woke up in the morning I found a woman's bra on the floor under the wooden chair in the bedroom that was apparently from a previous guest. It's obvious that this cabin is not cleaned properly. We left that morning and requested a refund for the next two nights we had booked. David refunded one night and less than half for the other. It wasn't what was requested but I'm glad we got something back since we then had to pay for a hotel for two night. I never spoke to David. He never replied to my messages about how I was disappointed that the cabin was misrepresented. Although he told me to call rather than message due to lack of signal in the woods, he never called me and continued to contact me by message prior to our arrival. Awful experience.

Not like the pictures-Not clean-Junk on property

  • 1 of 5

I have been to many cabins that I reserved through VRBO and they were all nice and clean. Usually pictures should tell what exactly you will get for the money you pay. with this cabin, you only see nice perspectives of the place which is completely different than what you will really experience. However, this time I am not happy at all with the money and time I spent on this one. Entering the property, there was a huge timber junk which was not pleasant at all. Inside the cabin was not clean. Resulting in spending most of the time outside of the place. There were bugs and insects all over on each corner. There were towels and blankets which smelt not good. The water was warm on the first day, the next day it was so cold. No internet and phone coverage so that I couldn't contact anyone to fix the issue.

The owner was checking on the place every 2 hour or so. He was driving and passing the property many times which means you won't have any privacy. We ended leaving a day early because there was no hot water and bugs inside were not tolerable anymore.
