You are welcome to carefully gather dead twigs and branches that have fallen on the ground for your campfires. We encourage you to help us keep the cottage as sustainable as possible by conserving on electricity and separating your recycling and bio-waste (compost) from your trash. Why David chose Allegheny Mountains

When we first saw that this property was for sale and walked around it, we immediately fell in love. The converging, spring fed mountain streams gurgling their way through mossy stones and tower hemlock and pine trees is both breathtakingly beautiful and serenely relaxing.

What makes this cottage unique

All of our projects are environmentally conscious and a large percentage of the profits go towards making improvements that reduce our environmental impact. By sharing this property with us, you also are helping us reach our sustainability goals.

Relaxing!

  • 4 of 5

This cabin was in a great location to kick back and relax. Lots of activity of Amish buggies but we totally enjoyed the sound of the horses and buggies going by. This is a cabin in the truest sense of the word. No frills but it has the basics needed to be comfortable. We spent most of the time outside. There is a deck under construction by the friendly owner but it is useable as is. Right on the stream so if you like the sound of running water, you will be very content. The only drawback to this place was the sap from the trees. Just be careful where you sit and you'll be fine!

Dirty, not rustic

  • 1 of 5

First let me start off by saying I wish I had read the previous review on July 4th which would have made my decision NOT to stay there. When we drove up to the cabin we had to double check that we were in the right place because the front no longer looks like the photos the owner has posted. The shutters are gone and there is building debris and wood piled all over. David told us to give him a 20 minute head start so he could meet us there, but never did. We waited over an hour, left and came back, then found the front door unlocked and the key on the kitchen table. The first room you walk into, the porch, had a filthy futon with a dirty blanket on it. When we entered the kitchen we found a mouse dropping on the leather chair. There is tulle draped from one side of the cabinets to the other over the kitchen window and sink that is full of dirt and dead bugs. Next we looked for the bathroom. You enter it by walking through the second bedroom, where the floor first slopes down, then up again. The bathroom floor was soft and the toilet rocked when you sat on it...as if you could with the giant water heater stuck between it and the sink. There were dead bugs and dirt in every corner and on the floors. The musty smell was awful. There are two guest books in the kitchen. One ends in 2014 and the new one started with one review on July 21 2017. Where are the rest? How was that even a good review? I swear I read good ones before we booked...had I seen that bathroom or read the most recent review, I would never have booked this rental. We actually brought our own blankets and pillows in from the van (which we almost slept in) to use on the bed so we didn't have to touch any bedding. When I woke up in the morning I found a woman's bra on the floor under the wooden chair in the bedroom that was apparently from a previous guest. It's obvious that this cabin is not cleaned properly. We left that morning and requested a refund for the next two nights we had booked. David refunded one night and less than half for the other. It wasn't what was requested but I'm glad we got something back since we then had to pay for a hotel for two night. I never spoke to David. He never replied to my messages about how I was disappointed that the cabin was misrepresented. Although he told me to call rather than message due to lack of signal in the woods, he never called me and continued to contact me by message prior to our arrival. Awful experience.

Not like the pictures-Not clean-Junk on property

  • 1 of 5

I have been to many cabins that I reserved through VRBO and they were all nice and clean. Usually pictures should tell what exactly you will get for the money you pay. with this cabin, you only see nice perspectives of the place which is completely different than what you will really experience. However, this time I am not happy at all with the money and time I spent on this one. Entering the property, there was a huge timber junk which was not pleasant at all. Inside the cabin was not clean. Resulting in spending most of the time outside of the place. There were bugs and insects all over on each corner. There were towels and blankets which smelt not good. The water was warm on the first day, the next day it was so cold. No internet and phone coverage so that I couldn't contact anyone to fix the issue.

The owner was checking on the place every 2 hour or so. He was driving and passing the property many times which means you won't have any privacy. We ended leaving a day early because there was no hot water and bugs inside were not tolerable anymore.

Nice cozy get away

  • 5 of 5

We were very happy to spend 3 nights in this cabin. Our 5 and 8 year old loved the creek and the fire pits, as well as the markers and the handful of children's and young adult books they discovered. We enjoyed nightly fires together, quiet rest, and loved the way the cabin kitchen/dining room let us eat and play games in such a warm place. We would certainly love to come back again!

As us for advice on the best places to do outdoor activities known only to locals. for example, there is a place you can go tubing in Penns Creek in which the creek goes in one giant loop with an old tunnel through the hill in between so you can tube all day and only have to walk five minutes between your start and end point. It is magical!
