Unbelievable beach front property
Rented this place for my wife's 40th birthday. The first thing that caught my eye about this property was the views of the ocean. After staying here, I am even more amazed by the views. The main attraction about this rental is the outdoor space. The inside is a little dated and the rooms are a bit small but the place is very clean. For me, the views and the private beach was the main reason I stayed here. The weather gods were on our side. It was sunny and breezy the whole weekend. I could have laid outside the whole day. I would definitely recommend this place if you're looking for a beach front property to relax with amazing views.
Perfect Beach Cottage for a Family of 8
We rented this home at the end of November to enjoy Thanksgiving together as a family. The house is an original beach cottage and smaller than many of the rebuilds on the street, the term cottage truly applies. The bedrooms are small but suit the purpose of sleeping comfortably just fine. The room with the bunk beds is great fun for kids, but the beach access and lack of a tub aren’t that great for little kids. We had a family of 4 in the bunk room, no extra space to spread out, but they were able to use a 5th bunk as storage. The garage, converted and carpeted, houses the laundry facilities and was a great place for our stuff.
The outdoor space was comfortable for everyone, but there is a considerable drop to the ocean below with no railing, so not perfect for small kids to safely run around and play. The tide came right up to the house most of the day preventing us from going down to the beach during those hours. There was a small window of time, each day, to safely go down to the beach as all the other hours of the day where the beach seemed accessible there was always the possibility of a rogue wave smashing right up against the retaining wall. This could have been seasonal/weather related, care needed to be taken. Don’t expect day long beach access. Being ocean front means the view never stops and never disappoints. Once leaving the safety of the exclusive, gated community there is direct and immediate access to pathways and trails that go just about anywhere, north and south, including Doheny State Beach at the entrance of Beach Road. Nearby was a sports store where we purchased a fishing license and gear to enjoy some fishing off the lawn. We had some fun with catch and release, never waiting long for a bite. A couple of us used the SUP to get in a good paddle on calmer days, and we even had a go at surfing, down at the State Beach with the surf board in the garage. Those of us who braved the ocean enjoyed the outdoor shower before towelling off.
The common rooms were perfect for us. A nice open plan where the kitchen, living and dining space provided enough room and seating options for everyone. I fell in love with the Dutch door in the kitchen. The beautiful wall of windows and glass doors could be opened to let the outside in providing a front row seat to the Pacific that is unsurpassed. The kitchen had everything we needed for us to prepare all our meals including a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner. It was perfect.
Thank you for the review!
New stairs leading to the sand have been put in along with railings that make it safer for children and elderly. Your trip coincided with a "King Tide" which naturally occur and are more extreme these days, hence the limited time on the sand. Otherwise it appears everything else was fine and great to read that you enjoyed your stay!
Fantastic location, beautiful ocean view
Perfect size for a family and grandparents. Very relaxing, close to lots of fun activities. Owner was fabulous to work with and very accommodating. We will be back!
GORGEOUS BEACH HOUSE & PERFECT LOCATION
Our group of 9 had the best experience at this incredibly quaint and beautiful beach house. It was the perfect location and distance from the wedding that we were in town for. The views of the ocean and ability to sit overlooking the water made our trip. The owner was extremely helpful. Booking this location, getting there with all the amenities, and checking out were all made to be extremely easy processes. We could not have loved this place anymore!
Better than 5 Stars
From the moment we turned into the gated property until we left the healing Pacific behind us on our way home we were truly in a place of healing and renewal! We felt safe in a world spinning out of control....even for just a little while!
The property beckoned us in through a private gate and we were greeted with the scent and vibrant colors of an amazing garden.
An instant smile came across our faces as we walked up the short path to our delightful cottage for the next 5 days. It was inviting and homey and as we stepped into the house we immediately knew we had chosen the right place! The expansive glass "walls" gave a breathtaking, unobstructed view of the great Pacific literally at your doorstep! The home had just been painted prior to our arrival and everything was very fresh! The homeowners have renovated one of the original beach cottages exquisitely!
We spent much time in the perfectly place and comfortable lounges outside on lush green grass. We walked along the waters' edge in the early hours of the morning as the tide was out and sat under the umbrella at high noon enjoying our lunch.
Evening tide found us sipping wine on the lawn watching the sun be swallowed up behind the western hill and Catalina Island. Then as the lights began to twinkle along the beach line and the temperatures cooled we moved inside where the fireplace warmed and embraced us. We were in heaven! Peaceful with family gathered around.
The cottage had everything we needed and the owners were always just a phone call away.
We sadly left there but knew full well that we will undoubtedly be back!! Our sincerest thanks!
Great location next to crashing waves.
If you want big waves and sunsets to die for, you should stay here. Owner was wonderful to deal with. Very helpful and accommodating. House is bit out of date with tiny rooms. Location makes up for it.
