[Updates: We are now considering 30-day+ rentals and are offering special rates for longer-term renters, and we have new, larger beds, some new Williams-Sonoma furniture, and totally updated master bathroom with French coming soon!] Our beautiful Eastlake Victorian house is in the heart of the city, with parking for two or more cars, plus it's only a few blocks' walk to everything—two blocks to famous Alamo Square Park with the famous “postcard row” Painted Ladies houses and a 360-degree view of the city, four blocks to fashionable and bustling Hayes Valley cafes, eight blocks to the ballet, symphony, SFJazz (our new, world-class jazz center), and the architecture of City Hall. This neighborhood is perfect if you want to be close to the best restaurants and shopping in town.

If you're renting a car, or two, you can park in our garage. Golden Gate Park and most of the major museums are only a 10 minutes drive. The magical Presidio, two gorgeous beaches, and the Golden Gate Bridge, are all just 15 minutes away. There's a friendly bicycle rental shop a few blocks away, too.

This is our home, not a vacation rental property; we live here except when we're traveling, and we are careful to rent it to nice people who take good care of it. It has a huge, double-sized living room with a grand piano, hardwood floors, very high ceilings with plaster moldings, wood wainscoting, original doors and transoms, antique chandeliers, exposed brick, curved wood staircase in the entry hall, and antique furniture throughout, including a working crank Victrola.

When we get short reservations, we use it as an excuse to take a trip, and with 30-day+ reservations, we stay in the area and are here to help you. Our work schedules are flexible so we can usually accommodate your preferred dates. If you're interested in Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's, or Valentine's Day, we can make it very special for you. If you're traveling on business, guests are finding our house is ideal and a huge money-saver for coworkers here for meetings and conventions. (If you have a very large party that needs more space than we have, our next-door neighbor also rents her beautiful one-bedroom condo very affordably, so I can always check with her to see if, combined, we can accommodate all of you.)

We will greet you and show you how everything works, then we will usually be traveling within driving distance so we can handle any emergencies that come up. Our regular cleaning team is available for extra cleanings during your visit, if you're interested, at an extra cost.

The eat-in kitchen (there is also formal dining in the double-sized living room!) has all new dishes and kitchen linens, a stainless steel double-sink, dishwasher, microwave, etc., plus marble kitchen countertops and marble bistro breakfast table, stained glass windows, a loveseat and a brick (non-working) fireplace. We have a relatively new, stacked washer and dryer on the same floor as the bedrooms, high-speed wifi, and iPod docks in most rooms (if you forgot your Victrola at home).

Most bedrooms have high-end organic mattresses, plus most bedding and our brand-new towels are from Coyuchi, a luxury organic cotton brand used in nicer hotels.

The master bedroom has large windows overlooking a huge tree, a California King bed, exposed brick, an antique triple armoire, and private bath. There is a second, shared bathroom. The second bedroom has a queen Restoration Hardware sleigh bed, a full-length sofa from Z Gallerie, antique armoire, and a chandelier. The third bedroom has an antique French double bed (larger than the twin size still pictured), beige linen loveseat, armoire, desk (and a cozy walk-in closet converted to a children's library). The fourth bedroom can be for an adult (it has an antique twin bed and Serena & Lily wool rug) or can be a cozy nursery, since it is right off the master bedroom. Also, the living room can act as a fifth sleeping area because it has a sectional that includes a comfortable, very wide and extra long sofa area. The living room has French doors for privacy. If necessary, the daybed in the room with the queen sleigh bed can be used for additional sleeping, and we have nice air mattress options if you have lots of kids (we have small toddler blow-up travel beds, twin air beds, and a queen air bed).

Since we have small children, we have tons of children's toys, stuffed animals, and books, as well as a high chair and comfortable seating for nursing. We still have the baby gate frame up at the top of the stairs and can attach the gate if needed, just let us know you have babies/toddlers. We can also set up bed rails for the twin bed if you need them. Plus, we can tell you all the best activities and resources for children while you’re in town!

We can also provide recommendations on the best restaurants, natural beauty, historic architecture, and unique activities in the city...and beyond (like the Wine Country to the north and Monterey/Carmel to the south).

Please remember to first check the calendar to view availability, and then create a custom quote (there are several additional fees--city taxes, HomeAway/VRBO fees to travelers, etc.) to make sure the TOTAL price works for your family. Then include information about your party and the reason for your visit in your inquiry--and if possible, go ahead and "Book It Now" so we can easily approve or deny the request. The major reason we turn down bookings is a lack of information provided about the people traveling. We love to meet new people and have hosted wonderful people from all over the world and we look forward to hosting you!

I'm a huge Bewitched fan, and have been told I look like Samantha Stephens (on a very good day), so I'm using her name and photo as an alias to protect our privacy. We are a married professional couple, both from San Francisco, with small children we adore and spend all our time with. This is our primary residence and won't be available all the time, but we're leaving the calendar open because so far, we've been able to arrange to travel nearby (a great excuse to get away!) and accommodate most requests we've received. When we walked up the curved staircase and into the house, we fell madly in love with it and immediately got in a bidding war over it with six other couples (as you know already, we were the lucky winners).

What makes this house unique

We were surprised to find that tour buses stop in front and tourists take pictures of our house because it is such a great example of a San Francisco Victorian. Inside, the period detailing like the chandeliers, the plaster moldings, and the high ceilings (great for a giant Christmas tree!), all make us feel like our house is a special place to come home to--and very San Francisco, our hometown!

  • Four bedrooms: One king, one queen, one double, and one twin. The fourth (with antique twin bed) is small and right next to the Master Bedroom (if you have a small child in there, we can put rails on the bed). Also, the living room has a sofa that is extra wide and long for sleeping one person, and has French doors for privacy at night (or when used as a living room or conference room, privacy for meetings during the day). Plus, the queen bedroom also has a large daybed sofa that is comfortable for one person to sleep on. And we have toddler and adult air mattresses if needed.

Our family stayed over the holiday. We had a fantastic stay. Everything was as shown and described. We were looked after very well and very kindly. Would strongly recommend and stay again.

Our group of adults & teens thoroughly enjoyed our base for our 6 night vacation in San Francisco doing the tourist things . Hosts couldn't be more helpful particularly with well documented local recommendations & available for advices during our stay. Warm welcome on arrival with welcoming treats. Good residential location within walking distance of several restaurants & shops popular with non tourists . Very impressive living room which we didn't maximise. Would stay here again & recommend to friends.

Alamo Square

Our family of five adults rented this home for a long weekend. It was attractive, clean, well-equipped and perfect for our group. The owners are great hosts and very attentive to your needs. We liked the fact that everything is on one floor. I would heartily recommend this place to anyone interested in renting a nice home in San Francisco.

Beautiful old classic San Francisco Victorian in great Hayes Valley location

Myself and three colleagues stayed here for a week while in San Francisco for a conference. The home is spacious, quiet, comfortable, clean and centrally located. The hosts were great and took a lot of effort to make sure that we had everything that we needed for our stay. The location is right in the middle of everything that you would want to do in San Francisco. It is <$9 Uber ride to Moscone Center and great for getting away from all the noise and bustle of the downtown area while seeing a bit of the real city. The neighborhood is full of great coffee houses, shops and restaurants.

Beautiful house in good location

Property was spotlessly clean with very comfortable beds. Location good but an area you still need to be streetwise in. Kitchen rather cramped with more than 3/4 people in it. Lounge huge. Lots of antiques in the property and it is the owners home so little hanging space for guests.

Perfect for a short stay. Owners very precise with instructions (understandably as they normally live here full time) but very friendly and welcoming. If you want the full SF house experience this is for you.

Beautiful, accommodating, helpful, nice people

I stayed here for a long weekend with 8 people. We had a fantastic time, the house is beautiful and also in a wonderful location. We made dinner in the kitchen and would spend the rest of the day's exploring San Fran. My only hesitation would be that 8 people was a little cozy, (although we were pre warned someone would sleep on a couch) so I would suggest 6 or 7, but besides that, no complaints here :)!

UPDATE: This is our primary home but we are relocating temporarily and are offering long-term rentals (meaning a 30-day minimum) to tenants beginning September 1, 2017 through at least May 31, 2018, so we've adjusted pricing for that and blocked off those dates for 30-day or more rentals only. Thanks for your understanding, and if you love our house, please keep in touch, because we will move back in soon and do short-term vacation rentals as we're able for summer and around school holidays.
