About Kelly McGrory

We are Kelly, William and Trex. We live in Southeast Pennsylvania where we work as a speech therapist, tech support manager, and faithful pooch. We love the outdoors, and have a great appreciation for nature. We love to share the peace, tranquility, and romance of our cabin in the Shenandoah area. We hope you enjoy it and make happy memories for yourselves. Happy Trails, Kelly and William (and Trex too!)

Kelly McGrory purchased this cabin in 2009

Why Kelly McGrory chose Central Virginia

We chose to purchase this property, with hopes that we would relocate to the Charlottesville, VA area for its outdoor lifestyle. Our jobs keep us in Pennsylvania, but we enjoy 6-7 trips to Romance Ridge per year to take in the beauty and serenity of the mountains and hike the trails in the Shenandoah National Park.

What makes this cabin unique

Romance Ridge is located at the doorstep of the Shenandoah National Park, and is equidistant between University of Virginia in Charlottesville, and James Madison University in Harrisonburg. With two ski resorts close by at Masannutten and Wintergreen, it's not easy to choose! There are numerous, breweries and vineyards in the area, along with antique shoppes, wildlife management areas, and country roads to explore and take in the undeveloped scenery. The Shenandoah Valley is rich with history, from Civil War trails to James Madison's Monticello, James Monroe's Ash Lawn, and James Madison's Montpelier. No matter your destination, we are sure you will enjoy the peace, solitude, and serenity of the cabin itself. Enjoy your stay!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Our stay at Romance Ridge was perfect! We made the trip to celebrate our first wedding anniversary and could not have asked for better. It was a perfect, relaxing weekend. Thank you!

The property was remote and quiet. Also a 10 minute drive to Shenandoah National Park entrance

The cabin was perfect for our 3 day escape. With our dog. Hiking in Shenandoah National Park is amazing and then back to the cabin to cook on the grill and hot the hot tub. Relaxing mornings on the deck with a cup of coffee. It was truly amazing and will certainly be back.

Great little cabin away from it all. Well appointed and cozy! Perfect for 2 people!

My wife and I enjoyed our 4 days there immensely. Very relaxing get away! Quiet solitude yet close enough to venture out for fun stuff-we hiked, went to a wonderful winery, and drove over to Charlottesville for dinner one night. Beautiful area. It was also great to have our Samoyed with us-very pet friendly cabin!

Pets Welcome!! Woohoo!!!!

  • 5 of 5

We had the best time at Romance Ridge. Its was peaceful (except for the occasional black cow mooing, which we loved) and relaxing. Loved everything about this cabin! It was clean, easy to find, and only 5 miles from Shenandoah Swift Run Gap entrance and without a doubt charming and perfect for a couple and their pets! We loved having breakfast and dinner on the deck and spending our mornings on the upper deck just chatting. We even saw a doe and her fawn one morning. It's just a short distance to the grocery store in Stanardsville that had great local fresh produce and the employees were very friendly and helpful. There is a hot tub and fire circle but we didn't use but they are there if you want them. Wish we lived closer so we could take advantage of the cabin more often. You will be very pleased if you rent this cabin. Thank you to Kelly and her family for sharing their cabin.

Relaxing Stay in the Mountains

  • 5 of 5

My fiance and I spent a long weekend at the cabin and enjoyed every second of our stay. The cabin was clean, quiet, and well appointed. When we wanted to venture out, there was plenty to do within a 45 minute drive. We wished we could have stayed longer.

Kelly was very helpful and even allowed us to reschedule when work interfered with our original plans. She communicated promptly and the check out process was simple. We have recommended the cabin to friends that want to get away.

Turkey Ridge Road is a state maintained dirt road. While not necessary to drive an all-wheel vehicle, it may be easier in inclement winter weather. There are black bear who inhabit this area of Virginia. Please do not leave food or trash outside the cabin, as this will attract various pests from the woods. While black bears are an exciting siting, we do not wish to create a pest environment.
