About Kelly McGrory
We are Kelly, William and Trex. We live in Southeast Pennsylvania where we work as a speech therapist, tech support manager, and faithful pooch. We love the outdoors, and have a great appreciation for nature. We love to share the peace, tranquility, and romance of our cabin in the Shenandoah area. We hope you enjoy it and make happy memories for yourselves. Happy Trails, Kelly and William (and Trex too!)
Kelly McGrory purchased this Cabin in 2009
Why Kelly McGrory chose Stanardsville
We chose to purchase this property, with hopes that we would relocate to the Charlottesville, VA area for its outdoor lifestyle. Our jobs keep us in Pennsylvania, but we enjoy 6-7 trips to Romance Ridge per year to take in the beauty and serenity of the mountains and hike the trails in the Shenandoah National Park.
What makes this Cabin unique
Romance Ridge is located at the doorstep of the Shenandoah National Park, and is equidistant between University of Virginia in Charlottesville, and James Madison University in Harrisonburg. With two ski resorts close by at Masannutten and Wintergreen, it's not easy to choose! Luray Caverns is an easy day trip. There are numerous, breweries and vineyards in the area, along with antique shoppes, wildlife management areas, and country roads to explore and take in the undeveloped scenery. The Shenandoah Valley is rich with history, from Civil War trails to James Madison's Monticello, James Monroe's Ash Lawn, and James Madison's Montpelier. No matter your destination, we are sure you will enjoy the peace, solitude, and serenity of the cabin itself. Enjoy your stay!

Perfect Romantic Getaway for Two!
We can’t wait to come back. The pictures don’t do this cabin justice. It truly is perfect for a romantic getaway with a wood burning fireplace you can enjoy from the kitchen table, couch or bed. And the bed... wow. Crazy comfy mattress. From the personalized welcome note when we walked in the door, to the new fluffy towels and comfy sheets and pillows, to the piles and piles of firewood, a hot tub with gorgeous views, a nice kitchen and bath, and trees surrounding the cabin, Romance Ridge was exactly what we wanted. It was very private and had everything we needed right there. Little touches, like the matching robes, magazines and a notebook of information about things to do it the area just bumped it to a higher score from us. There are things like hooks throughout the cabin where you need them, sharp knives for cooking, lots of throw blankets to snuggle under and rockers on the back porch. This cabin is, for us, the perfect romantic getaway.
MIchelle, thank you for sharing your experience at Romance Ridge! It is our goal to ensure the guest is experience is just as you have described! You are most welcome to return to the cabin any time. We do hope you can make it for a visit again in the future!
Relaxing and refreshing.
My husband and I are both teachers near DC who were looking for a way to relax and unwind during our spring break, and this little cabin was perfect for that. For those who want to get out and hike some mountain trails, others seemed to have done that and love it. We never even bothered. This cabin was perfect for staying in and taking it easy. The back porch has some lovely little rocking chairs, a table for morning breakfast, and a hot tub. Inside is an open floor plan with wifi, direct TV, and a fireplace. We read, played games, cooked, and enjoyed the view of the mountain. We also loved that we could bring our dogs. Highly recommend!
Cozy secluded escape
What could be better than a cabin in the woods? This comfortable, well supplied getaway spot is the perfect place to slow down and rest. Hot tub under a cold, starry sky followed by the warmth of a cracking fire in the fireplace is a wonderful combo for winter relaxation. The weather was snowy so I brought food to prepare for a few days. The kitchen had everything I needed. Kelly was very helpful answering any questions I had including potential road conditions for my safety. This is a mountain road as is expected, warranting 4WD when snowing for parts that are steep or curvy. Bring kindling, newspaper and a lighter to make fires either inside or out with wood provided. Bring your canine to cuddle with, too!
We loved the cabin!
The cabin was perfect! Comfortable king bed, wood fireplace, hot tub, beautiful location.
Perfect weekend on the doorstep of SNP
Amazing property at an amazing location!
We spend a lot of time camping, but decided to spend a weekend with some added amenities and the property was perfect!
If you stay here and go to SNP, wake up and go so you can get back early and enjoy the afternoon on the porch, it's a magical time.
The Monday after our visit we feel refreshed and recharged, that is rare after a mountain trip in my experience.
Kelly (owner) was very imformative and welcoming
I would recommend this property if you are looking to really relax in the woods :)
Cozy & Comfortable Mountain Get a Way
Enjoyed our stay at Romance Ridge! The cabin was clean, cozy, comfortable and secluded. Located near a Skyland Drive entrance. The hot tub was a plus after walking trails at skyland drive during the day. The extra thick pillow top on the bed was a little too soft for our liking, but we managed ok for a few nights.
Would definitely recommend staying here, and coming back ourselves.

Turkey Ridge Road is a state maintained dirt road. While not necessary to drive an all-wheel vehicle, it may be easier in inclement winter weather. There are black bear who inhabit this area of Virginia. Please do not leave food or trash outside the cabin, as this will attract various pests from the woods. While black bears are an exciting siting, we do not wish to create a pest environment.
