Carlisle House Rental Photos and Description

Peaceful, Recently Renovated Pre Civil War Home Bordering The Conodoguinet Creek

Two story home with four bedrooms, two and 1/2 baths. Sleeps 7.

Savor the tranquility of a spacious two story antique home renovated with modern conveniences. This lovely pre civil war building has a modern kitchen , a period living room and dining room on the original first floor layout, along with a sunny sitting room with gas fireplace and a modern bedroom and bath added where the former carriage passway stood. The three bedrooms upstairs, like the living and dining room, reflect the architecture of the period, but with a large added modern bathroom.

The side door opens to a lovely patio facing the east, while the view from the west of the house is of the period barn adjacent to the field and creek and also the Ironbridge, a more than century old one lane bridge across the Conodoguinet Creek. Parking for up to six vehicles is available under roof beside the barn.

Opossum Lake, a 59 acre recreation area managed by the PA Fish and Boat Commission, is just minutes away. Canoeing, kayaking and tubing are possible on the Conodoguinet Creek. Eagle Creek Golf Course is less than a mile from the house.

Visitors are less than 10 minutes from Carlisle, settled in 1751. George Washington did sleep here before his departure as head of the army to quell the Whiskey Rebellion. Historic sites in town include a revolutionary war Hession Guard house, the Molly Pitcher grave, and Old West, a building on the national historic register designed by Benjamin Latrobe, architect of the US Capitol. Carlisle has numerous parks and restaurants, Dickinson College and Law School, and is well known for both its Car Shows and antique shops.

About Mark Adams

Mark Adams is a native of central PA, and is dedicated to conserving the environment and heritage along the Conodoguinet Creek.

Mark Adams purchased this house in 2010

Why Mark Adams chose Pennsylvania Dutch Country

Mark Adams was raised on the Conodoguinet Creek, less than a mile from the Meadowbrook Farm. His home was destroyed in 1972, during Hurricane Agnes. This did not prevent him from reliving his dream youth by purchasing property along the creek, although thankfully the Meadowbrook farm is out of the flood zone!

Lovely home in a country setting

  • 4 of 5

We loved the country setting, that is a short drive to town. Just over the one lane bridge is an absolutely beautiful drive with crops and rolling hills. This home is very clean (the best so far!) loved the old floors that are finished beautifully. The updated bathrooms are a plus in an older home. This home has beautiful furnishings and is well maintained. We have to mention, since we live in a very quiet neighborhood, the road noise and car lights coming into our downstairs bedroom was annoying...but just fine, after we got to sleep. ;-). If we come to town again, we would most certainly consider coming here again. Thank you opening you home to us and for a pleasant stay.

Owner's Response: Thank you for staying with us. We truly appreciated your care for the house. While we regret the lights disturbed you, we note the traffic is generally not heavy except at the beginning of the work day, the end of the work day, and Sunday go to meeting time! If there was a church festival one of the evenings you stayed, that could have caused more traffic. If you could let us know whether the lights disturbed you most from the one lane bridge or the road along the creek, we will see if we are able to put darker blinds on those particular windows. Thanks for your comments.

Lovely setting

  • 5 of 5

The house was beautiful, comfortable, clean and well equipped. It seemed newly renovated. The little touches are what sets it apart from other rental homes. We enjoyed the beautiful garden and patio outside and the sunroom and large dining room. The bedrooms were very comfortable. We hope that we can visit this home again. The recommendations for activities and restaurants was very helpful.

Wonderful home and location

  • 5 of 5

We had a group of six in age ranges of 17-72. This was the perfect location for all. The house is absolutely beautiful. It is well appointed with pretty much everything you could need. Mark and Mary left fresh peaches and apricots and local beer and a great bottle of wine on our arrival. We made a point to go the Peters Market to get more fresh fruit. The local Lager and wine were REALLY appreciated :-) after our trip.

We had a problem with the WiFi and reset the router after calling Mark who was very responsive! It then worked great for the remainder of our stay. It is not screaming fast broadband but certainly can support normal connectivity. Our son was gaming which ate up bandwidth and he said there was some lag but worked through it. If you are not a heavy gamer it is a good connect.

It is situated within driving distance of many locations. We spent a day in D.C, Gettysburg, Hershey Park and Philadelphia. No location was more than about 2 hours. Gettysburg and Hershey were within about an hour. We also went up to the Raptor view in Carlisle...that is an amazing place to view the valley. You can be as busy as you want to be and there is so much to see.

There is construction that is occurring that detours traffic for Meadowbrook. It is a slight inconvenience and our Google maps and Siri for whatever reason did not route us around the detour. Apparently this detour will be in effect until sometime in 2016 so just be aware prior to route your trip.

I highly recommend this rental. It is relaxing and central to many historic sites. We wish we could have stayed longer.

Wonderful vacation rental

  • 5 of 5

We spent three wonderful nights in this lovely home. This home has been recently renovated, in superb condition and is immaculately clean. It contains everything you need in a vacation rental including a superbly fitted out kitchen. The hosts were great to deal with and the little touches made it a very special vacation. Highly recommended.

Even More Gorgeous Than Pictured!

  • 5 of 5

We could not believe our good luck when we drove up to Meadowlands Farm! A sparkling, pristine, renovated farmhouse, situated on a beautiful grassy corner with an old iron bridge over a bubbling creek, and a barn thrown in for good measure! Mary, the owner, was even there to welcome us and make certain all was in order.

The purpose of our visit was to visit our youngest son who was attending the War College, and was slated to get a major promotion. So the entire family turned out for his "wetting down" ceremony which was held in one of the charming pubs in Carlisle, following the ceremony which was performed at the War College.

But......back to the Adams' lovely rental property! Mary and Mark have done a superb job bringing this house back to life.

We loved the decor which was a combination of some new comfy sofas and chairs, and some beautiful old family antiques. The entry thro the side door gave us immediate access to a cozy family sitting room adjoining the new, modern kitchen. I particularly loved the views as I sat on the sofa next to the gas fireplace (remote controlled). This room was just off the master bedroom and bath, which also had wonderful, large windows with attractive views. The other 3 bedrooms and baths are on the second floor.

The dining room adjoins the kitchen and is very large and beautifully furnished with antique pieces. On the other side of the center hall was the formal parlor, again handsomely outfitted with a combination of new, comfy upholstered furnishings plus antique and famly items. Many old family portraits and other art objects were utilized in the decor.

The bedrooms were all lovingly furnished and each room had an interesting motif and some cherished linens and quilts. Our granddaughter fell in love with the "cowboy" room, and particularly loved all the books and puzzles she found to keep her amused.

Everyone reported the beds to be very comfortable; I drew the MBR, and I can attest to the fact that I slept like a log! I also appreciated the comfortable armchair next to the window, and the roomy closet and dresser space. The bath was lovely......a humongous walkin shower and lovely bath linens.

Mary thoughtfully left us some local fruit, and some wine, and my husband was delighted to find a cold beer in the fridge, too! Although we did most of our cooking at "home", we appreciated reading the recommendations that the owners had compiled in booklet form for us in the event we wanted to go ou
