About the property

Cottage, 4 Bedrooms, 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 11-13)

Chute Pond Cottage - 150 Feet of Firm Sand Frontage!

Your cottage is on a point. Beautiful sunrises in the morning and relaxing sunsets in the evening. Vacationing on the point gives you the seclusion you deserve. One of your neighbors cottages is so far back it is not visible and the other is visually blocked by a boat house and landscaping. You have the privacy you need to relax.

This 2000 sq foot cottage was built in 1999 and completely remodeled in 2009, by a professional home builder. New flooring in every room, new drywall, newly painted, new hot water heater, new kitchen appliances, new Valley Cabinet cabinets, new doors and trim through out. This cottage has 4 bedrooms. Sleeps 11 comfortably, but can sleep more (13) with air mattresses. A master bedroom with plenty of closet space, personal 1/2 bathroom and a second floor view that brings romance with a candle light night. Bedrooms 2 & 3 each have a full size bed with a full bathroom right outside the door. The 'upper bunk' bedroom is situated on the opposite side of the house for complete privacy. It has 5 twin beds and it's own full bath. Kitchen allows for island seating for up to 10 people, great for groups or games. Family room has the quiet you need to relax or separate from the noise of the kids!

Outside you have a flat approach, the water is a gradual descending from 1 foot to 4 feet in about 40 feet, solid-firm sand and a great board walk. Pan fish and bass hang out by your dock. The kids will enjoy the tree fort-swing set.

Chute Pond is a great lake, do you like fishing, boating, water skiing, tubing, a sand bar where 30-50 boats park on a sunny weekend, streams and places for fish to hide, adventures for the kids with slippery rock and jumping rock , two restaurant/bars on the lake, and live bands playing on the lake. The lake is a 700+ acres with the river. The dam provides guaranteed high water levels. From your cottage you are 300 yards from the ATV trails.

False advertising leading to disappointing vacation

  • 1 of 5

We had very high expectations for our stay at this property. The photos looked beautiful and the owner had great communication prior to our stay. Unfortunately, immediately upon arrival our experience quickly changed. We arrived to find the house locked, with no instructions on how to enter. After several phone calls to the office, we were able to connect with the owner and obtain the code to enter. We immediately came to realize that the house was not wheelchair accessible as it originally stated in the VRBO rental listing. The only room that my mom, who requires a wheelchair, could access was the den area. She was not able to get into the kitchen, bedroom or bathroom via her wheelchair, and there weren’t any handicap accessible features (grab bar by toilet, shower bench, etc). Early in our stay, the septic backed up. After calling the office, we were told the septic would be pumped and to not flush the toilets until they arrived. It ended up being 1pm that they came to pump the septic, meaning 6 adults and 2 young children were unable to use a bathroom during this time. We also had issues with the water heater. The first 2 days of our stay we had ice cold showers. Upon calling the office, a plumber was sent to the house to find a broken part on the water heater and found it to be set at 150 degrees (“dangerously scalding hot for children, elderly, and handicapped”, accordingly to him). Thankfully the water and yard were very nice, as we ended up having to spend the majority of time out of the house due to the accessibility issue. Had this property not been listed as wheelchair accessible, we wouldn’t have booked our stay. Accessibility is not a convenience for our family, it is a necessity. Due to the stairs, narrow doorframes, shower/tub, etc. our vacation was very stressful, frustrating, and disappointing for our family. Our options are very limited when away from home due to our needs, so we expect and trust that information provided is accurate. It is very unfortunate that my family spent the money to stay here based on false advertising. We contacted the owner twice by email to discuss these concerns following our stay, with NO response. This was the same email that they so promptly responded to prior to our stay. The owners have since updated the VRBO listing and removed the “wheelchair accessible” description, proving their initial posting was inaccurate, false and misleading. However, this doesn’t acknowledge or mend our poor experience.

Owner's Response: We have sent a formal response with screens shots of our communications to the renter. 1) Instructions:: We emailed to the renter the instructions on June 13th, 2016. These instructions include how to get in the property. 2) Holding Tank: We have a holding tank. While the guests were there a toilet had a leaky seal. When a toilet runs all day and all night it fills the holding tank. Our instructions we emailed to them and signs inside the cottage to explain to we have a holding tank to conserve water. They have some responsibility in notifying us timely of a running toilet. As soon as we received the call about the holding tank being full we called our vendor to pump it and they came as soon as they could get there 3) Handicapped Conversations: 12 months before they rented the cottage, they used the VRBO website to ask detailed questions about the property. Please see detailed communications screen shots below. We answered each of their questions about the property. In fact, they wanted to know the door frame sizes to get into the bathroom. We even had our repair guy go over to the cottage and measure the door jamb width. This communication took place over a period of several days and finally after answering all of the questions they agree to sign up. We explained there are different levels to the cottage. We explained the bathroom doors are narrow. We explained in detail the 4 inch step to get to the deck which leads to the sliding glass door patio which has a step. They never asked about grab bars or accessibility. There are varying degrees of handicapped accessibility and we believed we answered all of their questions which is why they felt comfortable signing the agreement. I would also like to point out that they moved in on Friday, June 17th 2016 but we did not receive a call from them until Monday, June 20th, about the holding tank being full. Only at this point, did they then verbalize a complaint about the accessibility of the cottage. 4) Water Heater: As soon as we were made aware of the issue, we hired a plumber to address the issue as the guest stated. It could be that prior guests turned up the water heater to the house. Please note, we have two water heaters. A separate bathroom and the kitchen are fed by this water heated. Granted the water heater that was broken was heating the water used in the bathroom on the first floor. We also have an outdoor shower area. We are sorry for the issues.

This is a totally amazing property.

I think this is like the fourth or fifth year we have rented this property. My husband, five children, son in law, 3 grand children, assorted girlfriends and grand-dogs spend a week together in this home every year. We always have plenty to do, water sports, swimming, puzzle building, and book reading.

The place is always clean and comfortable.

Beautiful location and lots of space! Great for a large family!

We love the Lakewood area and the location of this house was great! Very clean and spacious house-lots of room for me, my six kids, and my daughter's boyfriend. Have rented through VRBO for years and this is the best furnished house we have rented. Great lake view from the house, nice level yard, restaurant a short walk away and another one right across the lake. My girls liked "Jumping Rock". Fish were not cooperating the week we were there, but other than that, nothing but positive things to say about this place!

Great place, great location, wonderful family rental

Few cabins can comfortably sleep a big group like we had (9 people, 5 adults 4 kids) but this cabin was perfect for it! Fully feature packed, clean, and gorgeous view of the lake that looks like a mirror most days. The wifi is not very good, for those who are hoping for a good connection, as it is DishNet (satellite) - I was hoping for a good connection to get more work done, but had to drive quite a ways to get good wifi. Kids LOVED fishing off the dock, and slippery rock, jumping rock, and the sand bar. The heated outdoor shower is fantastic, but we usually forgot to use it!

Fun times on Chute Pond

  • 5 of 5

One of the best vacations I had all summer. The house was roomy, well kept, and right on the water so we could fish / swim in our own back yard. We didn't pack much food since we always seem to bring everything back home so we ate at Kitty's every night. Excellent burgers, Steak, and Pizza and it's in walking distance so we didn't have to drive. Also took the boat to two other bars on the lake to check them out. One day we went tubing down the river, stopped at a small winery, and checked out the Casino. All around good time.
