Private Cabin offering a Romantic Getaway for 2 or Fun for the Whole Family
About Jeralyn Hathorn
My husband and I have been blessed to live in such an incredibly beautiful area of Texas. Each morning we wake up to the sound of birds chirping, not cars or sirens. Each evening before we go to bed we say goodnight to the Milky Way and marvel at the majesty of our universe and the One who created it. Our purpose in offering these vacation rentals is so that you too can experience how awesome our Creator is first hand.
Jeralyn Hathorn purchased this Cabin in 1997
Why Jeralyn Hathorn chose Vanderpool
We weren't even looking for property to buy. But for some reason we answered an ad in the San Antonio paper to look at a property that cost far more than we would've entertained buying. We drove 2 hours to look at it and decided to return the following day to look at more properties in the area. When the realtor showed us this property God spoke and we listened. The rest is history as they say and we embraced the journey that lie ahead.
What makes this Cabin unique
There's so many things that we love about living in the area - the friendly local folks, the abundance of wildlife, how bright the stars are and how big the full moon is (sometimes you feel like you need sunglasses at night!), the sunsets that paint the sky in the evening, the rain on the tin roof, but most of all the freedom to enjoy it each and every day. What our guests like best is the ability to be "unplugged". There is no WiFi or telephones in the cabin. Every now and then we start to think that it's time to come into the current century and add WiFi and the same day we'll read in one or more of the guest books about how the fact we did NOT have WiFi was the highlight of their trip. Apparently having to "talk" to each other brings unity. There's so much to love about the area and we'd love to share it with you.

We stayed three days with our 6 and 4 yr old grandsons. It was wonderful- floated the Frio, hiked at Lost Maples, made dinner in our cozy immaculately clean firefly cabin complete with fresh delicious homemade banana bread - perfect get away!
This was a great weekend get away. The cabin is well appointed with everything you might need. The location is beautiful and quiet. It gives you great access to all the wonderful things to do in the area.

Beautiful scenery, "mountains", stars, and rivers
My husband and I and our two daughters enjoyed our stay at the Firefly cabin. It was a pleasant surprise to drive through such beautiful landscape up a windy road up a mountain to get to our cabin. We were driving back from our stay at the Chisos Mountains in Big Bend. My daughter said she enjoyed Garner State Park and the Frio River more than Big Bend. We floated in the river for hours, had a great lunch at the Garner grill, played putput, enjoyed the dance that night. Beware that everything closes early so either eat at the Garner Grill before leaving the park or leave early enough to find dinner. We settled for subway as that was the only choice by 9:15. The property manager left homemade chocolate chip banana nut bread for us which we were grateful for considering we had no breakfast (due to staying at the park past grocery store hours). We will definitely stay at lost maples lodges in the future for certain!
Thank you for your informative and kind review. So happy to know you enjoyed your stay and we'll look forward to your return.
Firefly is only 10 miles to the Frio River - perfect for tubing or kayaking. The two lane country roads, steep sided canyons, rivers and natural environment provide plenty of opportunity for a beautiful and relaxing escape from the big city. The dark skies at night provide excellent opportunity for star gazing. The quaint towns of Leakey, Concan and Utopia offer mom and pop businesses providing eating establishments, entertainment and shopping opportunities.
