About Mark and Debby Hodgkins

We live in Charlton, NY but we have our lake house on the other end Lake Algonquin also!

Mark is an avid water skiier! There is a AWSA demensioned slalom course at the south end of the lake!

Mark and Debby Hodgkins purchased this house in 2014

Why Mark and Debby Hodgkins chose New York

We have enjoyed this lake for over 20yrs and decided to invest in this wonderful property when it became available because of the quality of the building and setting.

What makes this house unique

We love lake Algonquin because of the mountain views and the experience of the quaint town. It is not commercialized like other lakes in the Adirondacks. The lake is calm and easy to kayak and canoe on. There are beautiful eagles flying over head and tiny humming birds at the feeders. It is close enough to attractions for day trips but we can also come back to the peace and tranquility we love! The building is well done with wood floors and great windows, the bathrooms and kitchen are clean and up to date. We even have central air and a backup generator so you are always comfortable and at ease.

Beautiful home and location!

  • 5 of 5

We loved Northern Exposure adirondack home. The home was very comfortable with a great screened in porch and the fenced in dog run came in very handy

for our newly adopted pup. The lakefront views were incredible and we really enjoyed the kayaks and canoe. It really looks just as pictured and is very clean as well. The neighbors (and their dog) were very friendly and the small town of Wells was a wonderful place to get away from it all and connect with nature. Lots of great hiking nearby and the town beach is only a few minutes walk (or kayak trip) away. The owners left us wonderful molasses cookies which we

devoured after the long drive up, and they checked in with us while we were there to make sure everything was OK. We'd go back in a heartbeat-sad to leave!

Absolutely perfect!

  • 5 of 5

I can't say enough about this wonderful lake home! The photos do not do it justice. It is a beautiful home, decorated perfectly for lake cabin (but not cheesy). It was absolutely spotless, and welcoming. There was ample information about local attractions and shopping needs, plus some games and videos. The area is quiet and the people are friendly. We were greeted with a batch of the most delicious molasses cookies I have ever tasted. I don't even normally like cookies, but I wanted to eat every one of these. Debby and Mark checked in with us when we arrived, but respected our privacy. They are friendly and completely easy to work with, and are reachable if you need them. We can't wait to go back!

Size: It's not a huge home, but there are enough places to spread out, with comfortable furniture. Our teens took over the screened porch. We were comfortable with 6 people and a dog.

Amenities: You will want for nothing. TV, screen porch with comfy chairs, beautiful firepit, grill, 2 kayaks, a canoe, jacuzzi tub, deck and table outside, hammock, fenced in yard for your pups, beautiful stone dock.

Activities: We are laid back vacation people - we don't go looking for attractions. We prefer what is right out the door. The kayaks are a HUGE bonus, and were constantly in use. There is so much exploring to do, and a lot to see, including a huge beaver dam, fields of water lilies, and wildlife. In places in the lake, you feel like you are miles away from civilization. It's absolutely relaxing. There is a public, sandy beach a few minutes walk away. We took bikes and biked to the general store and ice cream shop. we also traveled to some nearby waterfalls. We weren't up for long hikes, so we went to some that were near the road, but still isolated and beautiful (Austin Falls, Jimmy Creek Falls, and Christine Falls). We also rode all over the forest roads and found some places to take photos and swim.

Shopping/Food: Not much nearby, but we went to Costco and filled coolers before we left. There's a general store that sells the basics, beer, sandwiches, pizza, & ice cream. Another ice cream shop is nearby. One restaurant. Basic menu, but good food. A few miles away (scenic 10-15 min drive) is a small grocery, & two more ice cream shops. One day we drove to Lake George (beautiful 1hr drive. Lots of shops and restaurants, and activities there. We passed The World's Largest Pile of Goat Manure :D It was our favorite vacation yet!

Best house we've ever rented!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the property for 3 nights in April. The house was very well-equipped with anything you might need for a comfortable stay. The views are beautiful and the area is quiet and peaceful. It's a very pet friendly home. Will definitely be back!

Wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

Mark & Debby provided excellent communication and a beautiful home to stay. Very clean, everything we needed & more! We enjoyed the peace & quiet while being able to have our furry babies (dogs) with us. The fenced yard is fantastic. Everything is just like home! We watched a little fox trott across the back yard and 2 deer crossing the road. We were able to visit Gore for snowboarding, just 20 minutes away. The jet tub was exactly what we needed to ease our muscles after attempting to conquer the mountain. We also watched the entire Northern Exposure DVD series :)

We completely appreciate your hospitality and kindness. Happy to have found such a lovely vacation home. Looking forward to revisiting again during the Spring/Summertime. Thank you so much!!
