About Jeff Green

We are a young family who loves to travel with our dogs to the Great Smoky Mountains. When our son was 5 years old, he told us he wanted his own cabin and he named it 'Bars Ubound' (Bears Abound). When we decided to purchase a cabin of our own, we already knew what the name would be!

Jeff Green purchased this cabin in 2014

Why Jeff Green chose Tennessee

We have spent many vacations in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. We have been on many frightening drives with tight, bending switchbacks and driveways where we couldn't park on a level surface or safely back out into the street. When we decided to purchase our own cabin, we looked at ton of different cabins in different areas. Our #1 criteria was that the drive to and from the cabin be easily accessible and our #2 criteria was to have a spectacular view. #3 was for it to be big enough for our family, but small enough to be cozy. There were a few properties for sale in The Preserve and as soon as we entered the resort, we knew this was the place we wanted to be. The drive is a little steep in places and we would call it 'medium' in difficulty, but it's definitely not nearly as harrowing as drives to many of the other cabins we've stayed at in the area. The parking is level and easy and the views...... THE VIEWS are absolutely the best we've ever seen! Stay with us and we KNOW you'll love it, too!!

What makes this cabin unique

Bears Abound has a unique blend of breathtaking views in a premier resort with amenities like swimming pool, 24-hour gym and steam room. And it's also pet-friendly.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Cabin was exactly as described and pictured. Communication with Jeff was always answered quickly and efficiently. There was even a bag of dog treats with a "welcome" note for our dog. The wireless at the cabin was very fast. TVs in every room. We will definitely be visiting again.

Great quiet cabin with amazing views and close to

  • 5 of 5

Awesome views from a mountain cabin. The game room provided entertainment for kids and adults. The cabin had everything we needed for all our meals. The road to the cabin is steep and pretty fun to drive. The cabin was a short drive from Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The hot tub on the deck was great after hiking and rafting. Very quiet nights with a great view of stars. We also enjoyed the views when the clouds moved in below us. The swimming pool area offered great views of the valley.

Jeff was great to work with. He provided all the necessary information ahead of time so our arrival went smooth. We had no issues during our stay. We enjoyed being tourists visiting Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge and other cities but Bears Abound allowed us to escape and relax.

We would recommend this cabin for anyone visiting the area.

Great cabin with gorgeous views!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Bears Abound. It was clean, well-maintained, and the owner was great to work with. Our kids loved the upstairs with the pool table, foosball, and air hockey and the hot tub was a big hit. Had a small picinic table outside to enjoy the sunset while eating dinner and the top deck had two rocking chairs perfect for some quiet reading time. It was about 30 min. to the park where we enjoyed quite a bit of hiking. So nice to be away from the crowds in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. Thanks for a great stay!

Hoping to be a repeat renter!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I loved the Bears Abound cabin, from its awesome views to the multi-game game room to the unique loft bedroom with ladder access for the kids. This cabin is well kept and clean and decorated in an appropriate bear theme throughout, which we enjoyed as well. I appreciated the extra staples left for our 9-day stay (extra dishwashing tablets, toilet paper, a box of tissues, plenty of hand soap and dishwashing liquid) that most cabins skimp on. I do wish we had some sort of tv access for moments when we didn't have time to view an entire movie, but we did appreciate the wifi. In conclusion, we liked this cabin so much that we hope to rent again next year!

Owner's Response: I'm not sure what Kim meant when she said that she wishes she had "some sort of TV access"?? I just want to clarify so future guests know that there are 4 TVs in the cabin. One large one in the main living room, and a smaller TV in each of the king suites and another TV in the gaming area upstairs. They are all flat screen hi-def and all have cable. If she meant TIVO, then that is correct: the cable boxes that Comcast supplied us with don't have a TIVO feature. Perhaps she meant the children's loft because I don't have a TV up in the children's loft? But there are 4 TVs in the whole cabin, all hooked up to cable, which should fit the needs of most vacationers.

Very pretty view, and a strange bathroom situation...

  • 4 of 5

I liked our stay, the owner was a pleasure to deal with. We asked for a late checkout during a holiday weekend and he was very accommodating. The view is pretty, the cabin is spacious, it has multiple levels and comfortable beds.

One thing I noticed that I didn't like: You have to enter a bedroom to go to the bathroom. There was not a "public" restroom, so to speak. It was very strange. We wound up with an extra person, they had to choose a bedroom to enter in the middle of the night in order to relieve themselves. For that reason alone, I would not rent here again, but had we not had the extra person, it would have been fine. It just didn't lend to any bedroom privacy, and I like my privacy.

For two couples it would probably work, that just wasn't our situation this weekend, unfortunately.

Overall, great cabin with a great view and a great owner. The bathroom situation is tricky, depending on your group. I gave it four stars, the one star being removed due to the bathroom.

Totally Relaxing

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay at Bears Abound!!

LOCATION: The location was amazing. Some people might find it a bit remote, but it was perfect for us. You had to drive about 15 minutes up a windy mountain road, but this put you at the top of the 'mountain' with beautiful views. There were quite a few other cabins in the resort itself, but we never heard anyone else or really felt like there were lots of people. The views from the pool were especially breathtaking. The pool was small, but very clean and well kept. We stayed in mid-June and there were never more than a few families there at a time. It was about a 30 minute drive to a grocery store, but there was a general store at the bottom of the mountain with a few things and a few restaurants around there too. It was about a 30-40 minute drive to quite a few trails; closer to 50-60 minutes to some of the more popular trails around Gatlinburg or Cades Cove in Townsend.

OWNER: Jeff was incredibly responsive to all our questions and very helpful. We appreciated this tremendously

PROPERTY: My husband and I stayed with our 3 kids (13 months, 6 yo, and 9 yo). The cabin was very spacious for all of us. We felt right at home! It was very clean. I was worried because they allow dogs, but I only saw a few dog hairs in a few places. I found the bed to be really comfortable. The hot tub was really well maintained and we used it a ton (those can gross me out). There were lots of nice little touches like throw blankets on the couches. The views were amazing. The air conditioning worked great. My girls loved sleeping in the loft, although I was a bit worried because of how steep the ladder was, but they didn't have a problem with it. Everything was in great working order in the game room and we had a ton of fun hanging out there.

CRITIQUES: If I had to downgrade the property on anything, it would be the kitchen. The ice maker didn't work, so we had to buy bags of ice for our cooler and packs. We love to cook and since we were pretty far from things, we wanted to cook most nights. We made due, but there was only one cutting board, the knives were horribly dull, the pans were completed scratched and warped, and there were only 2 measuring spoons. I know many people don't take good care of these things, so I get it, but it made it a bit difficult. The grill was small and super dirty too, so we didn't use that.

OVERALL: We loved this cabin and would definitely come back here again!

Owner's Response: Thanks for your kind words as well as the ways in which we can improve our kitchen. I'm sorry that the ice maker didn't work. It was working the last time I was there (early June) and the next time I go, I will try to look into it. I usually turn it off (by putting the little metal bar in the "up" position) because it used to make too much ice so that it was always pouring over the edge of the ice holder! I am also sorry if the knives were dull. I have cut pineapples there many times before without trouble so I never found them to be that dull, but I can replace them with new ones in July when I go back. 95% of our guests are great and treat our cabin with respect, but there are a few who cause damage to our things. I have owned the cabin for three years and have replaced the pans twice already (compared to the pans that my wife and I still have at home and have survived just fine for 20 years with proper care!) Some guests don't treat our cookware with as much care as they do their own stuff. I didn't notice any warped pans when we were there a few weeks before you, but I honestly didn't cook with them so I might have missed that. I will replace the warped pans when I go back in July. I will also look to get a full supply of measuring spoons. The outside charcoal grill is shared between our cabin and the neighbors'. I clean it when I come and remove the old ash from the tin can, but, as you say, some guests leave a bigger mess than others. Since the grill is shared with the neighboring cabin, I'm sure it gets heavy use. I live about 4 hours from the cabin and come every other month to visit and check on things and fix these sorts of minor issues. I love my cabin just as much as I love my house and I try to keep it as perfect as possible for me and my guests. I will try to improve these criticisms ASAP, but I am so glad that you still had a 5-star experience and I think other prospective guests would have a similar excellent overall experience if they choose to stay with us.
