Hello, My name is Christopher Bishop, and I am an Epsicopal priest currently living in Pennsylvania. My home in Michigan has brought me many summers of joy, and I hope your family will enjoy it just as much as I do!
Christopher and Jessica purchased this house in 2000
This is a custom-built property, built right next to my parent's vacation home (also listed on HomeAway). It features a very open construction with lots of windows and natural light, and has, at least in my opinion, the most beautiful beach-front view in the world! The village of Omena has all the amenities (gas, grocery, etc.) as well as great restaurants and a marina and yacht club that are the center of the village's summer social life. Within a 20 minute drive are lighthouses, antique shops, wineries, casinos, cherry picking, and yearly film and music festivals (and much more).
Jacuzzi tub, wooded, beach-front location, private beach, fire pit.
Nestled in the woods of Omena Point, this property is the perfect spot to get away from everything and enjoy a peaceful and relaxing vacation. Just a few other tucked-away homes dot an expansive, clean sand beach along the crystal-clear waters of the Grand Traverse Bay. Since this location faces due east, you'll view fantastic sunrises (if you get up early enough!). The beach is drenched in sunshine until early afternoon when the sun ducks behind the trees that hug the shoreline, giving you cooling shade throughout the remainder of the day (if you want it! If not, just move 40 feet to the north to have sun all day.) The lake bottom in front of this home, unlike the bottom in front of most other properties has been cleared of rocks, providing a great sandy bottom for the kids with a gradual slope. We had a campfire on the beach every night and watched for shooting stars across the Milky Way in an extremely dark sky that is not touched by city lights. The small, quaint towns of Northport (5 miles) and Suttons Bay (12 miles) are nearby for groceries, souvenirs, and kayak rentals (highly recommend North Shore Outfitters in Northport - free delivery and pick-up; call ahead to reserve rentals 231-386-1222). Along the shore of Lake Michigan, the Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes are a short drive west, as is the small tourist towns of Leland and Glen Harbor. We rented a pontoon boat from Stander Marine in Leland (231-256-9231; $270 for SIX hours) to cruise the entire length of Lake Leelanua. Plenty of casual restaurants in the area but if you prefer to stay in and cook, the kitchen has everything you need; plus there's a gas grill on the deck! Chris & Jessica were very helpful in our planning for this trip and are readily available should there be any problems of any kind. The home is VERY clean, well outfitted and beautifully landscaped! I would recommend this property to everyone. (And if it's booked for the week you want it, try the house next door which is also rented by Chris!) Hopefully we'll get back to enjoy this spot of paradise again!
The view and private beach were amazing! There was a great little fire pit on the beach and the house was perfect for our family. Overall, great place to stay.
Being on the Grand Traverse Bay was beautiful and quiet and we were able to bring our kayaks with us. Wonderful fires on the beach in the evening, and the owners hang bird feeders that bring in wonderful birds to enjoy. We were a little surprised that a number of things didn't work well (we had to repair the back door to get it to close, the closet door didn't shut, other small things) and that the outdoor chairs by the fire were old and mismatched (2 were broken). Thankfully we were able to take chairs from the house next door (same owner, no one there) which were more comfortable. No shower upstairs so you'll only have one shower. The beds were unfortunately older and uncomfortable so our guests did not sleep well. None of these issues are that bad for a vacation home if the price had not been so high. Based on the photos and daily price I think we had expected things to be in great condition, and we had spent a week in July at a lake house that was spectacular and about half this cost, so we might be a bit biased from that! Again, the location is fantastic and if the owners (who are very responsive and easy to work with) either update things in the house or lower the price I would recommend it highly.
Very dirty, disorganized decor and furniture, had to repair items to live in, the location is beautiful and that us what gives it the stars. Asking too much money and the pictures misrepresent what is actually there. Love the lake!!!!
This house was in a beautiful spot with its own beach and beautiful waterfront setting. The kitchen and den are very open and look out onto a big deck and a great view of the water! The kitchen was well stocked and we cooked and grilled there often. 6 people was a little tight and the master bathroom does not have a shower. 1 shower for 6 people was a little tricky. They do have great beach chairs and bonfire set up which we used a lot. Overall we had a great experience and will definitely look forward to going back!!
Chris and his wife Jessica are great owners and very accommodating. Their home is lovely and in a great location nestled among trees with a great beach out front. The sun on the beach does go away early in the afternoon because of all the trees, but you just need to know this to plan your day accordingly. The water is shallow and clear. I highly recommend renting kayaks and paddle boards from North Country Outfitters in Northport. They will deliver and pickup directly from the cottage. The water was perfect for the use of both of these things and I wish we would have rented them the entire week. Great proximity to plenty of activities to do on the Peninsula. I will definitely be back with my husband at some point!
