Breezy front porch overlooking the green grass and bandstand of Ocean Park and the ocean beyond. Front room with TV and a big cozy couch for napping. Dining area and reading den with gas furnace/heater. Kitchen with small gas range, microwave oven, toaster, blender. Washing machine. Outdoor clothesline drying.
Big, old-fashioned claw-foot tub upstairs.
Couldn't ask for a better location! Very cute home, nothing fancy but had everything we needed. Owners were helpful and quick to respond to any questions that I had before and after the trip.
When we pulled up to the cottage in a shared cab, the other passengers gasped and said, "Can we switch places with you?" This cottage is located right around the corner from town, facing a park that's across the street from the beach. It doesn't get better, location-wise.
The cottage itself is adorable with a nice big porch and plenty of chairs. If you have a rainy day, the living room inside is nice and has a television and wifi. There's also a den with the comfiest couch I have ever sat on. The decor is charming and filled with darling vintage items, exactly what you'd expect from a beach house. We were very happy here!
1. Don't leave any food out in the kitchen, or it will be overrun by ants. There aren't any ants anywhere else, and there's a fridge you can use to store things, but just be aware. (Sadly, some Murdick's fudge was a casualty.)
2. It gets really hot upstairs! Luckily, there are LOADS of fans around the house so we just set up a whole system of them and it was fine. This is very common for a beach house, I'd just recommend getting your fans situated as soon as you arrive.
3. The bathroom upstairs doesn't have a full shower, but one of those handheld shower things, and no curtain around the tub. Showers there are... challenging. There's also an outdoor shower though that has hot water which is very refreshing!
Even with the caveats (which are all common in beach properties), this was one of my favorite vacation spots I have ever stayed in. I have the place bookmarked for when I make it to the Vineyard again!
The location of the cottage is just wonderful. We could watch people playing in the park and see the ocean beyond. Just beautiful! Parking was a breeze and we were just a 2 minute walk from Circuit Ave, the bus stop and the ferry landing.
The house was cute and clean and the description the owners provided was accurate. My suggestion would be to do some more updates in the interior as there areas in the place that are pretty worn.
The owners were excellent- very responsive and prompt to any inquiries and extremely friendly.
Yes, I would recommend this property.
This Civil-war-era cottage overlooks Ocean Park (site of the iconic MV bandstand) and the Atlantic, where the sun rises each morning.
Everything you need is within a five-minute walk: beach, shopping, restaurants, taverns, movie theater, post office, marina. Leave your car at home -- one of two Island ferry docks and a transit bus stop are just down the street.
Other walking-distance attractions: Flying Horses Carousel -- the oldest merry-go-round in the U.S. -- an open-air arcade, ice cream shops, pizza parlors, the historic Vineyard 'Gingerbread Houses', bicycle, scooter and motorcycle rentals.
