About The Owner

All of our married children spent fabulous honeymoons in #188. I so enjoy escaping there to continue the memories and relax in its beauty and comfort.

The Owner purchased this condo in 1980

Why The Owner chose Keauhou

The weather and beauty of the Kona Coast on the Big Island with all its diversity on ocean and land is spectacular. #188 in the Surf and Raquet Club is best located, and the ammenities of the Club outstanding.

What makes this condo unique

I enjoy the ocean right behind #188. I enjoy seeing, hearing, smelling, and feeling it. I love the whales, canoes, and sunsets. I take the short walk to excellent snorkeling to see colorful tropical fish and sea turtles. I also walk to the shopping center and movie theater and from there have taken the trolley to Kona. My kids have biked to Kona. One of my favorite walks is to the bay with kayaking and charter boat scuba, snorkeling, and fishing adventures and circling back to the Surf and Racquet Club to relax by the pool.

Beautiful Ocean View

  • 5 of 5

My 2 daughters and my son-in-law stayed in this wonderful condo for a week in March, 2017. We had a great time sitting on the back lawn watching the ocean waves and the evening sunsets. The condo was well-equipped and very comfortable. We had one little snag. Home Away did not have correct information on obtaining a key for the condo. We found 2 very helpful ladies who knew the owners and helped us contact them to get the information we needed. The owners were wonderful and accommodating and even sent us flowers on our return home for the inconvenience. I would definitely stay here again.

Would Definitely Stay Here Again!!!!

  • 4 of 5

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at this oceanfront condo. The unit was perfectly equipped and comfortably furnished, we had everything we needed to make it home for 2 weeks. It's in a great location, close to shopping, movie theater, and post office in a very quiet, gated community. It was easy to get to the main highway and travel to any part of the island yet we were far enough away from the hustle of Kailua-Kona.

The views of the ocean are spectacular. We kept the windows open at all times to allow for a very pleasant ocean breeze which allowed us to keep the unit very comfortable, the owners also provide a standing fan which really helps when the humidity and temps are high. Ceiling fans in all rooms made sleeping extremely comfortable at night. One of favorite spots was the Lanai; we pulled the outdoor table out to the edge of the patio, ate breakfast there every morning and enjoyed our evening wine and pupu before going to dinner.

The condo is not fancy or ultra-modern but had all the conveniences of home. The place was clean and the grounds extremely well maintained. There is a lovely pool a very short walk from your front door which was great for cooling off on the days we hiked. The owners were extremely responsive when the dishwasher stopped working and had the issue repaired as quickly as possible. They were very receptive to input and ways to improve our stay. They were an A+ with respect to customer service. We would definitely stay here again.

Amazing location!

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week at this property in Feb 2017 and were blown away by how close it is to the ocean! It's in a amazing location with a sweeping view of the west coast - a relaxing get-away from the busier tourist scene in Kailua-Kona. We always looked forward to getting "home" in time to see the sunset from the lanai. The surf was pretty rough and loud crashing on the rocks and we actually had to close our bedroom window to be able to sleep at night, (well worth it). The place was clean, cozy and comfortable for 4 of us. The only downside we experienced was the ants that were inside, especially in the kitchen. But this was our fault...We learned to put everything away in the fridge, which kept them to a minimum. This location is also within walking distance to a local shopping center and a Sam Choy's restuarant, that has a good happy hour.

We would definitely consider returning to stay here again in the future.

Condo location & amenities made our best family vacation possible!

  • 5 of 5

We thouroughly enjoyed every aspect of the condo from the prime oceanfront location with close proximity to the newly refurbished pool and tennis courts, snorkel beach and shopping center. The condo offers all the amenities and supplies of home! We enjoyed the picnic cooler, table cloth, thermos, portable charcoal grill, beach mats, snorkel gear, beach towels, for our day trip/beach/site-seeing adventures! The private lanai provides the most relaxing setting for morning coffee/breakfast and watching the sunset. The condo stays comfortable with the ceiling fans and ocean breeze. The master bedroom's large picture window overlooking the ocean expanse is amazing to wake up to every morning!! All-in-all we had a wonderful vacation at what felt like our home away from home.

Amazing views and oceanfront location!

  • 4 of 5

We were a bit nervous as this was our first experience with VRBO and this particular unit had no recent reviews. However, it was the complex we wanted after doing much research. We were so happy with our choice. Joan and John were so helpful answering all of our questions and the unit itself exceeded our expectations by a lot. The video and photos don't do it justice - it is clean and very well maintained. Everything you need is there, including a lot of supplies that you would need to buy in other condos - dishwasher and laundry detergent, paper towels, coffee filters, etc. The beds were comfy and the wifi was great. We know why so many past clients keep this unit fully booked. We are so grateful to have found it! Thank you Joan and family.

Truly Oceanfront

  • 5 of 5

Prior to arriving in Kona, we had high expectations of this rental property. The town home met all of our expectations and even surpassed some of them. It is truly oceanfront and at times we could even feel the cool mist from the waves.

We cooked most of our meals at home as the kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed, including spices.

We started and ended every day on the lanai. Each morning we began the day watching the sunrise on the lanai drinking our Kona coffee. Each evening we finished our day with a glass of wine watching the sunset. Both were equally spectacular.

Because we found the home extremely pleasant and comfortable, we spent a considerable share of our time there and practically lived on the lanai. The lanai was private if you wanted privacy or you could move your chairs out to the grassy area just beyond the lanai for an even more panoramic view of the ocean and coastline.

Most days we observed either humpback whales, spinning dolphins or flying fish from the lanai. On our last morning, we witnessed a whale breach five times in a row.

We have visited the Big Island many times and have always stayed close to the center of Kailua. We were pleasantly surprised that we preferred this location in Keauhou. We were still close to the local adventures but further away from the crowds and "sounds" that comes with that close proximity.

Even though it reached 86 degrees one day during our 2 week stay we were never uncomfortable. The home was designed to allow for the trade winds to flow throughout both floors of the home and ceilings fans are installed in all the rooms.

The waves lulled us to sleep every night. Unlike similar townhomes in this community, the master bedroom window is low so while laying in bed you have an ideal view of the ocean and the waves.

We took daily walks to the nearby snorkeling beach and one day observed a large turtle making its way back to the ocean from the beach.

The home owners were always pleasant to deal with and extremely accommodating.

To sum up our overall experience, we booked two weeks for next year while still on vacation. That says it all.
