The home you wish you had away from home.
We grew up sisters and best friends, but in 2008 we were separated by 3000 miles. I live in Portland and Soomin lives in NY. But this home gives us an amazing excuse to get together more than once a year.
Chelsea and Soomin Ban purchased this house in 2014
Since we vacation here every summer in Pacific City, it was the perfect house to purchase. Barbara Kisley (previous owner of Kisley Kove) built this home in 2005 with nothing spared. She loved the beach and wanted it to be a restful and unique experience for all.
My sister and I want to continue her legacy and share our vacation home with those who want to get away from the hustle-bustle of city life and wake up every morning surrounded by breath-taking, beautiful ocean scenery.
1. Doryman Beer right down the beach at the Pelican Brewery. Sip while watching the crazy surfers in frigid waters!
2. Bonfires on the beach, roasting marshmallows and watching the sunset.
3. Experience fireworks from the living room on July 4th! Nothing like you've ever seen!
4. Stroll down the beach and see a family of sea lions playing at the mouth of the River.
5. Whale watching... on the boat? Better yet, from the living room sipping on a mug of Earl Grey Tea.
6. The night sky is spectacular with its brilliant constellations. The shooting stars never seem to cease.
7. Take a stroll at the crack of dawn; collect perfect sand dollars in the sand.
My family and I enjoyed our stay at Kiwanda Kove, not only was the view of the ocean excellent, but the view of the sunrise was also beautiful. This home was also close to the beach, had great views, and was comfortable.
This was our second time staying in this house and the reason we came back is because we loved it so much the first time.
The house is fully stocked with things like a slow cooker, blender, mixer, Keurig coffee maker, central vacuum system, board games, legos and other toys for kids, as well as bikes and helmets. The cupboards are full of spices, things like flours, sugar, baking powder, vanilla extract and other things you might need if you want to bake something on a whim.
You do have to restock it yourself if you were the last one to use it, but still, it's nice.
I loved that the bottom bedroom now has a twin over full bunk bed in addition to the sleeper, which adds additional sleeping space.
The views from the bedrooms and especially the top floor living room and kitchen area are spectacular. It's nice to watch the sunsets as you're eating dinner.
If there was one negative about this house is the fact that it doesn't have a gas grill. It was a bit of a pain to come and realize that we needed to get charcoal for our steaks. Other than that this house is what you want your vacation place to feel and look like.
Thanks for offering your house for the rest of us to enjoy Chelsea and Soomin!
We stayed for 2 weeks in August 2016 and had a fantastic time. The house is very well maintained and has a great layout (I say this having stayed in a lot of different houses in Kiwanda Shores over the years). The owner was super responsive from the time of our first inquiry and continuing throughout. A particularly nice aspect of this house is that there are amazing views in both directions -- not just out toward the ocean/Haystack Rock/Cape Kiwanda (which is as stunning as you might imagine), but also toward the East, overlooking the Nestucca River, Pacific City, and the hills and valleys beyond. On several days we had a beautiful sunset going on out one side of the living room, and a beautiful moonrise out the other. Your only challenge will be figuring out where to look! Another nice feature is that it is easy to walk or bike anywhere you want to go in about 10 minutes (walking) or 3 minutes (biking). There's easy access to the bars and restaurants downtown (just walk over the dune and across the bridge) or down at the Cape (just walk down the beach). You won't go wrong at this house!
Lovely location. Well-kept and clean property. Light and airy. All the utensils and dishes needed for cooking. Very comfortable place to spend some time relaxing.
Our third year in the rental, all went well. There was a cabinet door on the buffet/bar that the hinges had come undone (that way when we arrived). Also, just a FYI to the owners, the food processor doesn't work and needs to be disposed of. We are having challenges with some folks in our group with all the stairs. We're aware there is an elevator shaft in the house that has never been outfitted with an elevator, that would solve a lot!
We've stayed at many Airbnb's and this was by far the best place we have ever stayed.
The owners put a lot of thought into anticipating all the comforts needed to make it the best time ever by: stocking the garage with beach toys for both young and old; closets full of games, and spot on cleanliness.
The house and view of the haystack were beautiful!
