Cute, just-remodeled one-bedroom cottage behind main residence in quiet Northwest Clairemont neighborhood. Garden setting with seasonal vegetables & fruits for sampling: tomatoes, kale, strawberries, avocados, figs, grapes, etc. Private brick patio with umbrella table and chairs and gas grill.
Quiet, friendly, suburban neighborhood with safe street parking right in front. Small store 3 blocks; large shopping center 1 mile. Walking/biking trail nearby. La Jolla Shores beach 10 min, Pacific Beach 12 min, Sea World 15 min. Gaslamp, Old Town, and Seaport Village 20 min or less.
NOTE FOR SUMMER 2016:Next-door neighbors are doing major remodeling, so construction noise is possible on weekdays. Nights and weekends are still quiet. ;-) I have lowered the weekday prices to help make up for the inconvenience.
Simply furnished cottage has kitchenette with sink, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, and mini-fridge; dining area and living room with convertible sofa; separate bedroom features firm, queen size bed with memory foam topper. Bathroom has new fixtures and roomy tile shower. Small back lawn . Guests may use our washer and dryer and beach equipment. Large flat screen TV with cable, DVD player and movies. Free wifi. Coffee, tea, soap, shampoo, towels and dishes all provided.
Bathroom door isn't wide enough for standard wheelchair; otherwise wheelchairs can navigate the property and the cottage.
We're 4.6 miles from the ocean, so weather is sunnier than the beach, but still cooler in the summer than most of San Diego and usually mild in the winter. Air conditioner, ceiling fans, floor fan, and heater are there but not often needed.

I was raised in Southern California but have lived in the South, North, and Midwest U.S. San Diego is by far my favorite city in the U.S. and has been home for 14 years. I love to travel and have roamed Europe extensively. The photo is from my trip to Easter Island. I look forward to hosting travelers from around the world!
Rick Hill purchased this cottage in 2000
I love our quirky, quiet, suburban neighborhood home with cottage onsite that's been upgraded from lawn to garden. The cottage is close to everything, yet away from the crowds--and unlike the folks in nearby Pacific Beach, guests can always park in front of the house. ;-)
I enjoyed remodeling our little cottage to make it the kind of place I would love to stay myself. I'd like to bring the privacy, quiet neighborhood, brick patio and cozy interior with me when I travel, but luggage limits are so strict nowadays. ;-)
Enjoyed hosting Peta and family very much. The kids were very cute and well behaved and everyone was friendly. They were conscientious about house rules and left the place nice and clean. Love to host them again and recommend them highly to other hosts!
Everything was excellent. Nice place in a quite neighborhood close to everything in a few minutes drive. House with a beautiful patio and grill with a lot of privacy. I would recommend it!
We've been going to San Diego for over 40 years so we know the area pretty well, and I must say that Rick's cottage is well located for just about anything a person would want to do. La Jolla and all that it has to offer is only 15 minutes away by car, plus other attractions are easily accessed by the nearby freeway. The cottage itself was clean, comfortable, well cared for, and the neighborhood it's located in is very quiet. If you're heading to the beach, Rick has many things that you might need. But best of all was Rick's friendliness and his eagerness to help. He met us when we arrived and was more than accomodating throughout our stay. Rick's cottage is an absolutely great place to stay; we certainly plan to book it again!
Thanks again Rick and I sure hope you find the best wave ever........

A terrific property hidden away on a convenient street close to many of San Diaeo's attractions! Everything the two of us could hope for in a very private setting. Would work great with a couple of kids as well! Rick was 'johnny-on-the-spot with anything or any question we might have. We're really only about 15 minutes from two of our favorite beaches: Pacific or Windandsea. 20 minutes from the Gaslamp, Petco or Old Town. Although you usually wouldn't need it in SD, the AC in the bedroom was a welcome relief in this unusual heat wave!
Visiting SD to welcome our first grandson, we found lots of other stuff to do. The best single part (after the grandson) was Rick's availabilty and his concern that we have all the information to enjoy our time in his property. Thanks, Rick, for all your efforts to be sure we had everythin we needed! GREAT TRIP!!
Cute little house with all that we needed. Very comfortable and we felt right at home, The owner Rick met us on arrival and showed us all the amenities. If you are staying in San Diego, this is a perfect spot to get to everything. We will be returning!
The cottage is clean and has just about everything you'll need. The neighborhood is quiet, safe and only a few minutes to the most beautiful beaches. The host, Rick, is very friendly and respectful of our privacy.
This was a nice stay, very private. Rick has shown us exceptional hospitality and made us feel welcomed. All in all the place was great. It was easy access to everywhere except downtown San Diego. We found it takes 20 minutes to get anywhere if traffic was light. but that 20 minutes could quickly become longer with traffic. If we go back to San Diego again we will consider staying here.
