About the property

House, 6 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 12)

A perfect Cape Cod retreat! On a quiet street, yet in the center of town, this house is ideal for a family vacation. The house is designed to offer privacy; a separate apartment on the bottom floor has it's own kitchen, bath and sitting area, and the bedrooms are situated on the first floor so that grandparents, or visiting friends, can have a little peace and quiet, even with kids running around.

This charming Cape house is within walking distance of everything. You don't need to get into your car to go to the general market, restaurants, galleries, Mayo Beach, shops or, most importantly, the ice cream shop.

The house is airy and light, but cozy. There is great cross ventilation, so it never seems hot, even in August. We have significantly renovated the house for 2016, so that it combines the best of a traditional cape house, but has been spruced up: we have reshingled, repainted, and have a newly revamped bathroom.

Everything is within easy distance of the house. The new community center is a two minute walk, so that young and old alike can enjoy the activities there. You can walk to get your morning coffee and croissant, and the only dilemma will be whether you spend 2 minutes to go to the market or to the Flying Fish Cafe, or decide to stroll an extra 5 minutes to one of the other great breakfast places.

In the evening, you have your choice of cooking in the spacious kitchen and grill, and entertaining yourselves and guests, or walking to one of the many fabulous restaurants. You can chill with a bottle of wine and Wellfleet oysters on the deck as the kids run around the backyard.

Rainy days don't feel claustrophobic because the house is well designed, and there is plenty of space, a rarity in a house that sleeps 10. We love playing board games (and have quite a collection), or putting together puzzles as a family. This house allows you to bond as a family, but doesn't force you to be in each others' space.

Older kids can walk to the town pier, play basketball at the community court, go fly kites on the beach, or meet friends at the Mac Shack. Bring or rent bicycles for the whole family and go on the Rail Trail (an easy ride for all ages) or go to the National Seashore, a beautiful, but more challenging ride. Teens can even ride bikes to the ocean beaches and ponds.

Keywords: Perfect Wellfleet house, with space and privacy to accommodate multiple generations joining together for a wonderful vacation. Charming inside and out, a traditional Cape style home, ideally situated. Walk to restaurants, galleries, Mayo beach, the general market or the WHAT theater. Interior is spacious and open, can accommodate a large family (or two) without feeling cramped.

Wonderful Home in a Perfect Location!

  • 5 of 5

We spent a fantastic week here in August. Absolutely perfect location right off Main Street in downtown. Easy walk to everything. Lots of bedrooms so the family can all stay. Very helpful caretaker on site who was quick to respond to any small issue. Look forward to returning next summer!

The best place to vacation!

  • 5 of 5

Lots of room and close to town. We had a blast spending our days at various ponds and beaches and ended them with a quick walk to get ice cream

Wonderful place in a great location

  • 5 of 5

My family had a reunion in Wellfleet. This was one of three houses we had for family. The house is wonderful. The location is great. John was very kind and helpful. If you are looking for a place in the center of Wellfleet that can accommodate a lot of people, this is the place. I would strongly recommend the place.

Now living in the Boston area-

Enjoyed our stay very much but . . .

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful family vacation there (8 adults, 4 children). Plenty of room, a nice back yard, terrific location, able to walk to stores, restaurants, and the pier, and easy access (by car) to a number of fine beaches. Also, clean and neat, plus the kitchen was well-stocked and the owners are very pleasant and willing to answer any questions you may have. But we were there during a hot week (great for the beach), and there is no AC and when it is hot the house is hot. Also, considering the "caretaker" is right next door I don't understand why there were so many lamps that did not work and why the screen door in the front had a huge whole in it and so we could not keep the front door open. Recommended.

Owner's Response: Dear Guests, Glad you enjoyed the town and house. Thank you for letting us know about the lamps and screen door. For these and other concerns, please avail yourselves of the caretaker who's both nearby and great help: contact info for him and for us is on the kitchen counter. Now, if only we could control the weather... Take care, Udayan & Barbara (owners)

Our favorite vacation house!

  • 5 of 5

We have been coming to this house every summer for about 10 years. We stay for 2 weeks and have different family members or friends come join us for a few days at a time. It is the perfect place to chill out or entertain. The house is spacious, clean and has a well stocked kitchen, etc. We tend to try out a variety of ponds or beaches over our time in Wellfleet, so finding a house on the water isn't a priority. However, being able to walk to the store SO easily is a huge plus. We often end our evenings with a quick walk through the backyard to the ice cream store. What could be better than that?! We can't wait to go back.

About The Owner

Two doctors and five children, we have been coming to Wellfleet for over 20 years. Every time we come, we try to figure out a way to move our practices up here, so that we can live full time here!

When the kids were young, they liked nothing more than jumping off the pier or looking for tadpoles at the ponds. Now that they are older, they are looking for the perfect ride on the ocean surf. We, on the other hand, like nothing better than to sit on the beach with a good book, go bike riding in the National Seashore, or sneak off with a great bottle of wine for a lobster lunch at Moby Dicks.

This house is our refuge and our sanctuary. It has "good vibes" and we treasure our time here.

The Owner purchased this house in 2005

Why The Owner chose Wellfleet

Where else can you find a vacation place that suits everyone from a toddler to a grandparent?!. Furthermore, where can you find a place that has such variety of beaches? The ocean for surfers, boogie boarders and kite fliers, ponds for the young 'uns, and the bay for everyone?

Wellfleet not only has the beaches, which are great, but it has so much else? Theater, art, fantastic restaurants, bike riding, hiking, kayaking, mini-golf, the drive in theater. You can spend weeks here and never do the same thing twice.

What makes this house unique

When we first looked at buying in Wellfleet, we were looking to get a property on the water. Our wise real estate agent, knowing our family of 7, urged us to look in town. Boy do I owe her!

I would not trade the fact that we come to Wellfleet and rarely get into our car for all the sunsets over the beach, (which we can get any time by just walking down to Mayo beach). The kids have the flexibility to roam freely in this small town, and we can walk/bike ride to anywhere we want to go. The only time we are really obligated to be in the car is when we go to the drive-in, a must at least once a season.

When friends come to visit, they are not limited by having to organize their time around cars. A couple can go gallery gazing, while others take their kids to the beach and the "aged P's" walk across the street for glass of wine and people watching at Winslow's Tavern.

I don't know of a better house to accommodate kids, adults and grandfolks....

Nauset Light Beach

You can't come to the cape without hiring a captain and going out fishing for striped bass. There are lots of local fishermen and there is NOTHING better than fish caught by your own rod and reel. A wonderful family outing.
