Nice, but could be better

  • 3 of 5

We stayed at Redfish 2 years ago in a different unit and really enjoyed our time, but this year we weren't as impressed. The rooms were set up nicely - everyone had plenty of space and privacy, but some things weren't so great. First, when we got there at 4CT we had to wait a whole hour to get in because the cleaning ladies (super nice) had the wrong time. Waiting with kids outside in 90 degree heat? Not the best. 30 minutes later they let us in for that reason into the downstairs while they cleaned upstairs, but bc they were rushed, it still looked dirty in places. The manager took several hours to reply, which was unfortunate, but was nice even though we didn't get an explanation for the delay, just an "oh that's odd" type of response.

Another thing we weren't impressed with was the condition of the furniture - the couch was SO uncomfortable, had dirty arms, and no throw blankets. Not cozy! There was basically nothing stocked in the kitchen which may be normal, but our previous unit had all kinds of things - spices, pantry staples, etc. and also came with pool toys and pack and plays, netflix access, even a stroller. None of those things here. No extra blankets even. Also the supplied shampoo/conditioner bottles were already opened. Not a huge deal, just not the best. Don't get me wrong, this is a nice condo, but for the money we expected pristine and more creature comforts.

Finally, the building rules were a bit more strict than we were expecting. We got a text from the manager asking to take down our towels from the railing (totally get that they want it to look nice, but its a pain). We got a note on the door for leaving a couple floats outside the door (strictly prohibited apparently) and the pool access was locked before 9 (and a recording yells at you if you try to open the gate) so you had to walk all the way around the building if you wanted to kayak or canoe to the beach early. You can't bring your own tents either. Basically beach access was way more inconvenient than we would have liked this time around.

Positive things: pools were nice, never crowded, and the kids had a blast. Grills were easy to use. Kayaks/canoes were fun and we took them on the ocean. Beach was not crowded. Capt Bob was always super nice and helpful and fun to talk to. Overall, I'd come here again if it were a different unit, but we will probably look elsewhere for vacations in the future.

Owner's Response: Marianne, Thank you for your honest review of your time at Sanctuary at Redfish. Again, I am very sorry for the delay with the cleaning company, as that has been tended. Also, I am sorry for my delayed timing in the response, as I said in our messaging we moved into a new house and my phone was lost in the chaos. I wish I would have been able to respond sooner because waiting to get in is inexcusable. Thank you as well for the notes about the shampoos, soaps, etc. as I will also make sure that doesn't happen again for future guests. The other strong suggestions for supplies that need be in the unit to add comfort for the renters are great and will be given attention to. However, I am glad you enjoyed Sanctuary at Redfish, it is a beautiful place and Captain Bob is wonderful!

Great resort!

  • 4 of 5

Sanctuary at Redfish is the perfect resort for an enjoyable beachfront experience! We have stayed at this resort three times and prefer it to any on the gulf coast. The beach is beautiful, as well as the ocean water! We always sight a variety of marine creatures. This was the most crowded we have ever been on the beach when staying at Sanctuary at Redfish, and still the crowds are slim in comparison to other nearby resorts. The coastal lake is also a treat, with the small fish and crabs to entertain our grandchildren, and the ride across the lake by canoe or by Captain Bob's pontoon boat is an adventure in itself! The pool area is fabulous! Our rental unit was spectacular, also, but we would have enjoyed a few extras in the bathrooms, such as additional towel racks/hooks to hang our wet swimwear and towels, and shelves in the shower stalls for our toiletries. Kelly was extremely helpful and attentive! Overall, our family group of ten had another memorable vacation at our favorite beach spot on 30A.

Cramped beach and hot pool water

  • 2 of 5

The condo itself was nice. Swimming pools were so hot that it was only good to swim in the morning. The condo had numerous lights that didn't work. They did replace the ballast in the kitchen light on Monday. Disposal leak water when turned on. Beach area to small and cramped. Had to rent chairs and umbrellas because you could not use your own umbrellas. Pontoon boat to beach could only take 8 people at a time. We sometimes had to wait over 20 minutes. We finally ended driving over to public beach access on Tuesday through end of week. This place was not for us.

Owner's Response: Dear Mike, I am sorry your stay at Sanctuary at Redfish was less than satisfactory. I am glad the onsite managers were able to repair the kitchen light and we will check on the disposal. I will pass along a message to in the chair/umbrella rental company and inquire about the closeness of the chair set ups. The facility is a beautiful place and the pools are mostly open to full sun for the better part of the day, I am sorry the water was not comfortable to you and your family. I am thankful that you found the public beach entrance, and I hope it was peaceful for the rest of your stay. Thank you for your honest review.

Good. a few negatives.

  • 4 of 5

We like the overall property in terms of location and amenities. There was construction going on around the roof area that was never disclosed in advance and was disruptive and somewhat noisy. The hot water heater was essentially locked so we had some issues around enough hot water in the afternoon. Kitchen items in some cases were a little sparse for a beach rental. We arrived at property after drive from atlanta and the door was on a timer so even though the property was ready before before 4pm, we could not gain entrance... not 330... not 345... it opened at 4:00 on the dot. Also i sent an email to the property manager several days before the rental term, and that note was never responded to. So, would i stay at this property again, yes. Would i stay in this particular unit, probably not.

Owner's Response: Hi Mr. Pool, I wanted to respond to your review of Mr. Bowling's unit in hopes to better it for the next renters. I have sent you a message via VRBO with some questions, if you could take the time to respond that would be very helpful. I did look through the inquiries and responses, I do not see any messages that were not responded to. However, the timing may not have been sufficient. Thank you for your honest review and we hope to take your notes seriously to better the unit for all those who get to enjoy it!

Beautiful, spacious condo with fabulous views!

  • 5 of 5

This was our second vacation with Sanctuary at Redfish and it did not disappoint! This condo is very spacious with room for everyone. We especially enjoyed having 4 full bathrooms and a half bath! Condo is decorated beautifully and beds were very comfortable. Kitchen has just what you need for your stay. Best part was the fabulous views of the beautiful pool area (can't be beat!), Redfish Lake and THE GULF! You have two balconies/spacious porches to take in this awesome view. It's why we come! We also enjoyed use of the canoes and kayaks to paddle to the beach! What an adventure for our 9 year old to paddle himself for the first time! Thank you for opening your home to us! Can't wait to get back!
