Overview

About the property

Clean and charming 4 bedroom 2 bath house in gorgeous Vermont countryside

Sunny 4 bedroom 2 bath home sleeps 8. Located on 4 lush acres of rolling fields, mature trees and streams, this single level custom built ranch house is conveniently located near everything, yet is private with spacious lawns and not a neighbor in sight ! Only 3 miles from historic Woodstock Village, which offers small town fine shopping and a variety of quality restaurants as well as fun for the kids at Billings Farm and golf at the famous Woodstock Country Club. Woodstock offers many year-round activities, including skiing at Suicide 6 in Pomfret (6 miles away) and Killington (20 miles away), swimming, fishing and kayaking at Silver Lake in Barnard (10 miles away), hiking at Mount Tom (in Woodstock Village), horseback riding at the Green Mountain Horse stables in South Woodstock, or just relaxing and experiencing all the natural beauty the area has to offer. We are located 10 miles from Quechee and 20 miles from Dartmouth College/Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical School and Hospital/Hanover, NH. We are also 7 miles north of the famous Jenne Farm in Reading, the destination point for many photographers and lovers of fall foliage. Good place to stay if you're coming into the area for the Covered Bridges Half marathon in June or the 100 mile run in July (which goes right past our house), as well as the 4th of July (Woodstock does great fireworks) and the balloon festival in early June. Also convenient for Dartmouth College graduations. Winter vacation weeks are filled with fun family activities in town. Rates may be higher for holiday weekends/weeks and special event weekends.

The house is a single-story ranch, with a small one car garage under, located on a town road and easily accessed in all types of weather. There is a large and sunny open freshly-painted living/dining room area, with two large comfortable couches, two recliner chairs and a dining room table that seats 6-8. This room is bordered all around by large windows and a skylight, and opens up onto a full season screened porch that overlooks the rear yard, flower gardens, woods, gravel patio and brick fireplace. There are ceiling fans in both the living room and porch, although there is always a nice cross-breeze from all the windows and open screen doors. For music lovers, there is even an older built-in piano !! There is also a 52” HD TV and sound bar in this room, as well as a DVD player (and some DVDs) a radio and an IPOD docking station. Also there is good internet connectivity as well as cell phone reception (for Verizon users) and a land line for local calls. There is a new gas fireplace, to stay warm and cozy on cold winter days ! We also have an outdoor fireplace with plenty of wood, and chairs and it is delightful to sit outside next to a warm fire and gaze at the star-filled night sky, with no lights anywhere in sight to hide your view !

The kitchen is older but freshly painted and in good condition and has been upgraded with a new floor, refrigerator, microwave and dishwasher, and includes an electric stove, new Corian counters and a small built-in breakfast nook which can seat 4-5 people. The breakfast nook looks out from the front of the house, and faces east, so is quite pleasant in the mornings when the sun is pouring in. There is a full size washer and dryer located just outside the kitchen, and both are older but in good condition.

There are four bedrooms, two have queen beds (master bedroom and front corner bedroom), a third bedroom has a bunk bed with a double on the bottom and a twin on the top, and the forth bedroom has a twin bed. All beds have new linens, pillows and lightweight down comforters. There is room in the front corner bedroom to fit a foldaway cot, for an additional short term guest (2 cots located in closets). We also have a Graco Pack-and-Play portable crib which can sleep an infant or small toddler. There are two full bathrooms, one located off the master bedroom and the other off the hallway where the other three bedrooms are located. Both baths are bright, clean, newly renovated and painted, and have a tiled tub and shower unit in addition to all new fixtures. Bath towels, wash cloths and beach towels are all new and in good condition. The master bedroom, also newly painted, is located at one end of the house and is quite private from the rest of the house, and doors can be closed in such a way as to enhance the feeling of peace and quiet in this apartment-like part of the house.

There is a shed in the yard, that has interior lighting, and can be used by older children as an additional place to explore – though we do not clean it as it is really not meant for anything more than another place for storage….

The land is gorgeous – the portion of the lot that the house is located on is level and raised from the street so there are views of the hills and valley across the street, and we have 4 Adirondack chairs and 4 chaise lounges for you to relax in, during the spring, summer and fall months. There is also a patio dining table and six chairs, as well as two umbrellas, available outside during the summer and fall. Our land also includes a field next door to the house, which goes up the hill and is a fun place to play and sled in the wintertime. The land also continues across the street, where there is another field to explore, and which abuts a marshy area.

We have cleared a path on our land, through the woods, for access to a river which runs along the border of the property - a lovely place to sit, watch and listen to the rushing water as it flows through the woods and down the hill ! (Path starts between the two large evergreen trees, just follow the blue tape on the trees )

Our house is simple, comfortable and an ideal rental for two to three couples or extended families, who love nature but enjoy the advantages of being very close to both cultural and all types of outdoor recreational activities. Also ideal for larger family get-togethers or celebrations, due to the configuration of the land and the private but convenient location.

If you like Cape Cod and beachfront property, please visit our other two rental property listings, Homeaway listing # 405494 (3 bedroom 2 bath Truro house with a 2 minute walk to a private bayside beach) and listing #3506195 (one bedroom seasonal beachfront cottage on the bayside in North Truro).

About Liz Gruber

We have been coming to Woodstock for 30+ years, were married at the Woodstock Inn, and only recently purchased our dream home.

Liz Gruber purchased this house in 2014

Why Liz Gruber chose Eastern Vermont

Simple but charming, this single story house is located on a fabulous piece of land, with privacy, peace and quiet and yet only a few miles to some of our favorite local attractions (Suicide Six, Killington, Silver Lake, the Village of Woodstock and Quechee Lakes).

What makes this house unique

Quiet and private but not isolated, and very easy to access in all seasons.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Great Ski trip!

  • 5 of 5

Great property. My family stayed here for along weekend while skiing at Killington. House is great and has everything you need during your stay. We enjoyed the location with its short drive to the shops in Woodstock. The owners were a pleasure to work with and were very quick to respond. We would definitely return in the future.

Perfect Ski Weekend!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time in Woodstock at this rental! The property was close enough to the small, adorable town of Woodstock, but the house itself was off the beaten path and very private. It's a short 25 minute drive from Killington where we went skiing Friday and Saturday. The property has a lot of the original features of the house, but is updated well. The house was very clean and the beds were comfortable. The kitchen has everything you would need to cook in some nights. I would definitely return to this property!

Great, Quiet, and Relaxing Home

  • 5 of 5

Me, my wife, and 3 other couples stayed here for the weekend and it was the perfect house. Liz was great at communicating everything. Everyone had enough room and linens. The house has a lot of great charm in the set back quiet area of Woodstock. We would certainly recommend this house for anyone looking to stay somewhere quiet and comfy to stay while exploring Vermont or skiing.

A cozy cottage.

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at this charming, sweet house in Woodstock. It was very private and secluded, but we were in downtown Woodstock in minutes. We loved all the charm and character of this house including moldings and built ins. Linens and towels were provided as well as paper goods which was very convenient because after packing the kids and all the ski gear, we didn't have much room to spare!

We stayed in the home with one other family, so we were 4 adults and 4 children and the house was the perfect size. One of the rooms has a bunk bed, and I would say that the top bunk is suitable for kids only because it's a tight squeeze to get in and out! But the kids loved it.

The kitchen was well stocked and we cooked breakfast each morning and dinner one night and packed lunches for the ski lodge each morning as well.

We stayed 2 nights in January and skied one day at Pico Mtn which is in Killington, VT, a very easy 25 minute drive, and skied the second day at Okemo Mtn which was about 35 min away, but on our way home to CT. I did not ski either day, but did a great snow shoeing tour at Killington Resort and visited the shops in Woodstock and had lunch at Worthy's which I highly recommend. We also had a lovely dinner at Richardson's Tavern in the Woodstock Inn. They have an amazing game room for the kids on the lower level while you wait for a table.

At the house we really enjoyed the cozy gas fireplace and played some games and watched a movie on the DVR. Liz has a great selection of movies to choose from. Something for everyone!

We had such a wonderful and relaxing weekend at this charming house and the only downside was that it went by way too fast! The owners really thought of everything and we were wanting for nothing while we were there.

Great place for an extended stay

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this house over a long holiday weekend for our skiing and snowboarding trip. It was very conveniently located not even 30 minutes away from Killington Mountain, with a rental shop on the way. The house is located in a rather private area with no neighboring houses in sight. It is a bit dated on the interior, but it is very well kept and quite a few things have been updated, like the master bathroom. There were plenty of items left around to make us comfortable, ranging from tons of towels, to DVDs, books, and kitchen supplies. Interior has a nice communal area with the combined living room and dining room creating a nice open atmosphere. The owner is very accommodating and incredibly easy to communicate with. Would stay there again given the opportunity.

We had a wonderful time at this lovely home. The location is perfect, close enough to town but far enough a way to enjoy the peace and quiet. The owners are very responsive and so gracious and helpful. We hope to stay again in the future. Highly recommend this property!! Thank you so much for all your help, Liz!!!
