Located in Castellina in Chianti in Tuscany, Italy, 'Isola Serena' is a beautiful private luxury villa on 4 acres of land with the most breath-taking views in the Tuscan countryside. Overlooking Siena and covered in vineyards, olive groves, and captivating forestry, this brand new villa just finished restoration in June 2014. The villa was restored by local Italians of the highest standard to maintain the Tuscan culture, artisanal tradition, and craftsmanship, whilst complemented by modern furniture and contemporary amenities.
Some of the finest quality local materials that were used include hand-made terra cotta floors, Italian marble and travertine for the terraces and bathrooms, chestnut windows and doors, and walnut for the kitchen and library.
The main house is 440 sq metres (4500 sq ft) with 6 bedrooms and all ensuites, and it can sleep up to 13 people. It includes a large terrace overlooking the countryside, a small heated private swimming pool, barbeque area, full kitchen, dining room, library, WIFI, satellite TV, and all modern amenities that are perfect for cooking, entertaining, and relaxing.
I am from Toronto, Ontario, Canada and have been traveling to Italy for many years for vacation ever since I was on exchange in Germany for a semester 20+ years ago. The first time I visited Tuscany, I instantly fell in love with the beautiful scenery, wine, food, and culture. In the summer of 2012 when I went on my annual Tuscan vacation with my fiancee, a real estate agent showed me this farmhouse which is mentioned in written historical sources as early as 1077. With over 4 acres of private land and the most breath-taking views overlooking Siena and covered in vineyards, olive groves, and forestry, my fiancee and I knew this was our dream home. After embarking on a 1 year restoration project and hiring all local Italians to maintain the Tuscan culture, artisanal tradition, and craftsmanship, this beautiful luxury villa is truly an oasis of serenity and perfection. The official name of the farmhouse is Podere Isola, meaning “island farm”, which I renamed to “Isola Serena”, meaning “serene island” and after my fiancée.
Kalen Properties purchased this villa in 2013
"The perfect spot for a group of wine lover friends to use as a base for exploring Chianti country. The villa is exquisite - the beautiful and pristine quarters will please even the fussiest of guests. Located literally in the middle of a vineyard and within an hour or less of any restaurant or winery you will want to visit. Really want to go back every year...will never find one to match it!"
Looking forward to our Italian vacation, we knew with certainty we wanted 2 weeks in a villa which provided a tranquil escape, panoramic views of vineyards and rolling Tuscan hills in the horizon; we wanted to begin each day greeted by beautiful sunrises and ending with mesmerizing sunsets. In the villa itself, we wanted a stay in a Tuscan villa with rustic charm but complete with modern amenities for our convenience and comfort. To our delight Isola Serena surpassed our expectations! The villa was thoughtfully and strategically designed to complement the Tuscan landscape. The thoughtful design was illustrated through each window of the home which acted as frames for the surrounding landscape presenting it as living art, achieving the goal to remind us of the beauty surrounding the villa.
As for our comfort and convenience, this same thoughtfulness was applied through the amenities both in and outside the home (kitchen, dining room, bedrooms, bathrooms, patio and pool). The only downside of Isola Serena is that we wanted to spend every moment possible in this picture-perfect home.
It is worthwhile to mention the convenience of the location where the town of Castellina was less than ten minutes away. There was easy access to many other towns in the Chianti region, for a day trip to Florence or Siena, or a short drive to Montalcino to explore the Brunello region. Our stay was also made more relaxing by the ready availability of Natalia, the property manager, who was always willing to answer any questions or address any concerns.
We have visited Italy numerous times and have rented a number of villas, many of which were beautiful homes with significant sentimentality attached, however we can attest that, for us, Isola Serena tops the list.
To answer the common question when we consider renting a home away from home: ‘Do the pictures reflect the reality? Our emphatic response is the reality is much better!
Isola Serena is truley a paradise in Italy's countryside. Everything from the classic Tuscan style, modern decor, and breathtaking views is to die for. Food tastes ultra fresh, and the little towns have amazing character. This Villa feels like a high end getaway surrounded bybeautiful scenery. This will have you dreaming of Italy when you're back home. Highlgly recommended for anyone and everyone!
I've travelled to various villas in the Chianti area, and Isola Serena is by far my best experience to date. Our group had the most relaxing vacation. All of the amenities of being home, and experiencing the best of Tuscany at the same time.
Location - Right in the heart of Chianti, situated close to Castellina and a quick drive to Radda, Siena, San Gimignano and other historic sites. It is also situated near Castello La Leccia, with many hiking routes. Extremely private setting.
Villa - Incredibly well laid out. A huge kitchen fully stocked with everything we needed to cook some amazing meals. The bedrooms are spacious and each one has an ensuite; Something i've never seen in any other villa. Double sinks as well! My wife and I are now considering a remodel at home. :) There is also a massive terrace overlooking the rolling hills of Chianti. The pictures for this villa don't do the view justice. You have the luxury of two massive dining tables, perfect for our large group. One inside for chilly evenings and a beautiful stone table outside where we spent many evenings eating delicious Tuscan food and drinking wine well into the night.
Pool - It was a giant Jacuzzi. It was nicely heated, not that we needed it with the incredible weather.
Hosts - Very responsive and they had a lot of suggestions around places to eat and visit in the area.
Wifi/Tech - This is by far one area where most villas get it wrong. Not the case in our stay. I was able to stream videos and we had music streaming from the main receiver to the outside speakers.
Overall, an incredible stay for our large group and we will definitely be returning.
Everything about this villa is amazing! I didn't want to leave. The rooms are spacious, the decor is stunning, and the views are breathtaking. While staying there we rented a car and everything was just a short drive away. We were able to drive to the hot springs, all of the designer outlets, the Duomo in Florence, and all the beautiful surrounding towns. I feel like we were able to get the full experience of Italy and I would recommend this villa to anyone and everyone.
This villa and location is fantastic!!! The owners have arranged for every detail for the comfort and enjoyment of their renters. Every bedroom is private with "state of the art" bathrooms! Linens are beautiful and the kitchen is unbelievably well-equipped! Natalia(the property manager) was great ! She is attentive to detail and was sure to let us know that she was very available if we needed anything (which we didn't). Our family of 14 (ages 2-70 years) thoroughly enjoyed the setting, amenities and especially the pool! Although it is small it fit our needs...it was hot every day and we really enjoyed being able to cool off when we returned from our excursions. The pictures are exactly what you find, after you navigate the bumpy road! However, the views are even prettier than in the pictures. Highly recommend this property!
What a fabulous place to stay in Chianti. The location is great-convenient to both Firenze (Florence) and Siena. The small town of Castellina in Chianti is only 5 minutes away. As you can see from the pics, the restoration was wonderfully executed: it is as solid as a rock. Great materials/construction leading to a home that any would be proud to stay in. Our party was 10 (7 adults, 3 kids). The home is large enough to allow for large gatherings and provides the views that only Tuscany can. Bathrooms, en suite, are very modern and have water pressure of the first order.
As previously mentioned, it is down a dirt road. Downside: a little bumpy getting there. Upside: absolute privacy and quiet. No motorcycles screaming by! Property Manager was very helpful and attentive and provided excellent service. We would heartily recommend this property to anyone.
The villa lies in the heart of the famous Chianti Classico wine region and is surrounded by many popular vineyards. Wine tours are a must and are usually accompanied with wine sampling and a delicious meal.
