Set far back off a quiet country road, surrounded by nature - forests, meadows, wetlands & wildlife - our 3br 2bath ranch is a great place to unwind any time of year. Enjoy local food & wine on the porch while birdwatching. Close to Metro North and the Taconic, our house is a great getaway from NYC. The house is 1500 square feet - it's spacious and comfortably accommodates six adults. Plus we've got a full finished basement (additional 1200 square feet) with some sleeping options as well.
There's tons of space for lounging, eating, reading, playing cards, napping... both inside and outdoors - pack a picnic and eat by the old stone walls, or sit on the porch in the rocking chair and watch the sunset.
With three separate bedrooms and two baths plus lots of closet space, all guests will feel comfortable. Plus the finished basement (with additional rooms & beds) is a great place to chill out.
You can buy just about anything you need for cooking at Big Rock Farms, less than a 5 min drive away - local dairy, veggies, meats, snacks and baked goods... Plus there's the Red Devon which is great for breakfast & lunch year round and serves dinner during warmer months - they use local and organic ingredients when possible. We get raw milk at the Shunpike dairy which is about a 10 minute drive away, if that's something you like. Plus the Millbrook Winery is around 5 minutes away, too! They have a great selection of local wines and have tours and tastings daily. You can do antiquing right up the road at The Bowen Barn, and Millbrook, Millerton, Hudson and lots of other great towns are close by.
But you can really just stay on the property and make yourselves at home. Come to get some writing done. Meditate. Do yoga. Sit on the porch all day long and watch the Blue Heron circle above the neighbor's pond. Maybe you'll catch a glimpse of the family of red foxes that lives nearby. Or some wild turkeys.
It's really fabulous here!! Our hope is that while at our little slice of paradise, you can breath deeper, sleep better, eat fresher and laugh harder!
It's pretty secluded where we are - you will hear, see and smell lots of nature!
We recommend that you rent/bring a car - there's not much to do outside of our property on foot. And if you can get all wheel drive, that's the best. Our driveway can get tricky during certain times of year. We are under 15 miles from several Metro North stations, and some of them do have taxis. We're happy to discuss logistics in greater detail if you have questions.
