Beautiful California Bungalow in Santa Monica's Ocean Park neighborhood. A free standing house, not an apartment building, that is very private and quiet. Classic California living with a private patio and a fantastic location. Walking distance to all of Santa Monica's great attractions. Best restaurants, Best beaches, Farmer's Markets, Movies, Shops, yoga studios, Promenade, Pier, Abbot Kinney Blvd, Venice boardwalk and bike path. Cool ocean breeze. Large, Well appointed kitchen. Beautiful, warm and relaxing environment. Open floor plan with lots of light.
Great house, fantastic location, very nice and communicative owner. Overall, a really great place for a good price! Only downsides are the 1 shower, but that was not a surprise. The house could also use a few more comfortable chairs or another sofa in the living room. Also an extra blanket or two, and we almost ran out of toilet paper, but those are minor!
Spacious living room and equipped kitchen. Beds comfortable. Bathroom with shower tiny. Tub bathroom could use a curtain to allow for shower.
Enamel worn. Bring your own tp if you are staying longer than the weekend. We did not use the third bedroom so not sure how it works but probably best for child. Place was clean and comfortable to relax after a day in LA. Also a new metro station is openning in March, which is in walking distance. Big Blue Bus also close by. Liked Chaya Venice for asian fussion cuisine. The santa monica pier and boardwalk are a comfortable walk along the beach. Very scenic with lights at night.
Everything was as described. The 3 bedrooms and 2 baths are great. The private patio was perfect to relax. Highly recommended.
This property is very close to a 5 star rating. Overall, no complaints and we had an excellent stay. Here are some thoughts.
- Great location close to the beach, Santa Monica Pier and Promenade
- Bedding is excellent (in my experience this is fairly unusual): beds are comfortable and well furnished. Very nice!
- Internet works reliably (again not necessarily typical)
- Parking was easy (but I could see it being more challenging in the summer)
- Overall the house is as described.
- Just one (but potentially a big one, at least for us). As other reviewers mentioned, the house is not very well heated (in the winter). That in itself is not a huge deal (though not super pleasant), but the bigger concern is that the heating device is an old school gas wall unit. I had never seen anything like it but it is essentially a big stove that heats up to very high temperatures and pushes out warm air. It is super dangerous with kids. The device heats up and if you touch it, you get second or third degree burns easily. Adults are careful, but young children may not be.
This is a great home base. It is a fairly easy walk to the beach - under 10 minutes. "Downtown" Santa Monica is a bit farther but still very doable for dinner, farmer's market etc.
The cottage is a good size for So Cal. Multiple people can use the open kitchen. The inside living room has ample seating and the outdoor space is large. No view but very nice.
The only issue with the rental is the master bath. It's not just that it is VERY small, but the sink is horrible. The faucet is set to the side but not far enough into the middle of the sink. As a result you can not use it withought getting water all over the sinktop. And since it is at a slant, the water runs off the ege and drips on the floor. The black mold stains along the corner edge and inside the sink near the faucet show that this is a huge recurrent problem.
The shower is best suited for folks who are short and small, as the shower head is very low and tilted to the side as there is not room to stand under it.
All in all we enjoyed our stay and would recommend this home. The owners are very responsive; the cottage well cared for and with nice touches. However the master bath may be an issue for some.
The property looked just like the photos and is very clean and well maintained. The house is located 4 blocks from the beach and is an easy drive or walk into downtown and is also right off I-10 to get you into LA or to the coast highway. The owner provided good customer service and lives in the front part of the secure property. We enjoyed all that Santa Monica had to offer and it's surrounding area and would recommend this property to a friend and would stay there again. I would suggest that there be one more easy chair to relax in the front room. We ate twice at M kitchen, shopped the promenade, walked the beach, drove to Malibu and spent a day at The Getty Museum. Great 3 day get-a-way. Did not like Shutters casual dining it was overpriced and nothing special.
