In SE Portland’s historic Ladd’s Addition neighborhood and within walking distance to the newest restaurant row on Division St. An ideal alternative to a stuffy downtown hotel, this cool, home-away-from-home, designed with mid-century modern styling and comfort, is located in one of southeast's hippest neighborhood, close to downtown, public transportation and an acclaimed and flourishing restaurant row. City of Portland ASTR Permit # 14-207831-HO

Sunset magazine honored us with the Small Space, Big Dreams Home Award and we're featured in the September 2014 issue. Additionally, Portland Monthly Magazine highlighted the cottage in their series on cool guest houses as 'a great environmentally friendly place to stash yourselves while in Portland.' The cottage is privately located at the back end of the owner's lot, is full of amenities such as radiant heat floors, skylights in every room, cable TV, wifi, a ceiling fan, full kitchen with a gas stove, oven and dishwasher.

The bedroom has classic, blonde 1950's Heywood Wakefield furniture. 100% cotton sheets and towels; plus shampoo, conditioner and Dr. Bronner's peppermint soap are provided in the sleek shower. We're perfect for one or two or a couple, and up to two additional family members or friends can be easily accommodated for sleeping in the living room on a couch that becomes a full bed, made more comfortable with a memory foam topper. (one child under 2 years old at no additional cost.)

The cottage earned an Earth Advantage Green Building platinum certification for utilizing innovative building practices to reduce dependency on non-renewable energy. A rack for shoes is provided so they may be left outside in summer and just inside in winter.

There are two entrances to the cottage - one from the street with on-street parking and another accessed through the alley. The private patio with seating and a table is all yours with a striped awning to protect from the hot sun in summer.

Ladd's addition has a 'walk score' of 92 - perfect for strolling around the rose gardens or using the nearby bike route to get around the city. Funky hawthorne blvd. Is the northern border of Ladd's with culinary-rich Division St. To the south, gaining prominence for its growing and innovative restaurant scene and unique shops. Nearby clinton st.'s bars and coffee shops as well as restaurants round out why this area lands you in the heart of what makes portland unique - small, boutique restaurants, an independent movie theater and one-of-a-kind businesses for shopping. We are a block from a children's playground.

Please note that the cleaning fee of $60 is due in cash upon check i.

About Susan Moray

I've lived in Portland's Ladd's Addition neighborhood for over 21, originally hailing from L.A. And living for a few years each in NYC, Maui and the Eastern Sierra mountains. Hospitality is in my DNA, having previously managed vacation rentals in Nicaragua and on Maui. I'm a passionate home birth midwife and in my off time I garden, growing perennials and organic vegetables, am an avid traveler, backpacker, fly fisher and cyclist. I love to eat and seek out new fine dining opportunities as well as unique food trucks and i'm happy to share them with you. During your stay, i can lay low, offering privacy or be a resource for your intro to portland's many interesting offerings. For inspiration, these evocative words speak volumes to me: 'let yourself be silently drawn by the strange pull of what you really love. It will not lead you astray......Rumi'

Cozy cottage in SE Portland

  • 5 of 5

We spent Thanksgiving at the cottage. It was everything and more. The location was perfect to discover SE Portland. Many restaurants and shops within walking distance. It was always nice to come back to in the evening after a day of exploring. Susan was very accommodating. We also loved the neighborhood. Hope to be back in the future.

  • 5 of 5

Susan's description of her cottage is spot on - it's located in a wonderful quiet neighborhood yet convenient to numerous attractions - foodies will particularly love her home's proximity to some really fabulous eating venues. Her cottage is super clean and well thought out. We loved our stay at PDX cottage and we look forward to staying at PDX cottage again!

Really nice stay

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay in the Eco Cottage. We loved the Ladd's Addition neighborhood and enjoyed walking down the quiet streets. We felt very safe in the neighborhood, and it was easy to navigate by walking or by car. We had decided to stay here partially because of the comments stating how close dining was and that we could walk to great shopping and restaurants. While there are a few places that are close walking distance, we were wanting to eat at some of the higher rated restaurants, which were a fair walk away and not as close as we would have liked. We ended up driving a few times because it was over a mile walk each way and we were tired from sight-seeing during the day. We did love how close it was to walk to the grocery store, that part was very convenient. The cottage was well stocked and was cute and clean. We are rating it 4 stars instead of 5 because of a few things: the hot water can take a while to come on (which was a bit annoying), there were parts of the cottage that were dusty, and the living room furniture was not comfortable. It's cute, but wasn't comfortable to sit on. The bed was comfortable, though, and we were happy about that. Overall we would consider staying here again, and think you can't go wrong with the location if you are looking for somewhere safe and homey feeling. We had rented a car and never had any problems finding parking in the neighborhood.

Owner's Response: Thanks for taking the time to review and for your honest feedback. I understand your wanting to be near some of the best reviewed restaurants in Portland and that they weren't close enough for you. I will have a look at my description to see how I can better describe the dining options to my cottage. I'm not sure there is a place to stay in which one would never have to travel more than a mile to enjoy them since Portland's abundant top rated restaurants are all over the city. I have a new, somewhat larger place coming on line soon, PDX Urban Farmhouse, that is closer to Clinton St and I think you'll find the furniture more comfortable. I hope you'll consider staying there when you visit Portland next time. Thanks again for staying with us! Susan

Great

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time staying in Susan’s cottage. It was very comfortable and nicely decorated. The neighborhood was very pretty with nice houses and big trees. And it was very walkable. We walked to the restaurants and grocery store while we were there. The only problem we had was trying to choose which restaurant to eat at since there are so many good ones. We hope that we can stay here again.

Perfect place in Portland

  • 5 of 5

Susan's cottage couldn't have been more perfect for a recent 4 night stay. We had everything we needed to pretend we were locals for a few days. The kitchen is super well equipped, which I always appreciate. Having the ability to do laundry is always wonderful, too. We were very impressed with all of the natural light and how the design of the cottage makes it so well insulated. Every nook and cranny was spotless.

The Ladd's Addition neighborhood is just beautiful- so green and lush and quiet. It's easy walking distance to food carts, coffee shops, a grocery store, and public transportation. We'd love to stay again when our travels bring us back to Portland.
