Multi-generational family reunions have stayed here as well as reunions of many types. We have also had the pleasure of uniting both sides of a wedding party! Please see more details on our site or contact us.
We personally built this house, including lifting walls! We are a married couple of many years and spent many weekends jumping in a truck to make the trip from Massachusetts to Bethel to work on or house. We currently live a few miles from the property and personally maintain the property.
Elizabeth Richmond purchased this chateau / country house in 1994
We love the Bethel area and all the people who have become our friends. Extremely private and well maintained property. The back yard, field and river are a bonus! Easy and quick access to the village and businesses.
You will feel yourself relax whether in the house, on the deck or on the river. The property offers privacy, with only one neighbor across the street with a home that sits behind trees a long distance from the street. Beautiful foliage surrounds our house. Events in the area include the festivals in Bethel, Sunday River and nearby Fryeburg Fair. Fall in love with the views of the field and mountains in the background when you sit on the back deck. The house has several sitting areas with couches, 6 TV's and comfortable furniture. Tastefully decorated. Beautiful fixtures. Fully furnished, including kitchen ware, bed linens and towels. Ample parking. Great back yard, field and beach for fun with family or pets.
We had a great time at your home in Bethel. The house was everything we needed as a family of 10. I wish we were able to spend more time there tho. We were at the house in Newry where my son's wedding was most of the day on Saturday and Friday night we went over there for supper and then back to our house for sleep and so my husband and daughter in law could prep all the food for the wedding. Thank you again for sharing your house...
Fourteen of us, plus three well-behaved dogs, fit comfortably into this clean, well-designed three-unit home for the weekend of our grandson's wedding. The home is fully equipped and the welcoming owners had everything ready for us. We were able to settle in quickly.
There is plenty of seating and lots of conversation groupings in all units, so we were able to mix and match adults and children. We especially enjoyed our wedding day brunch in the dining area with sun streaming in the cathedral windows of Unit Two - It was a lovely morning!
As mentioned in another review, you need to be mindful of the traffic on Route 2 as you are coming and going. However, the house itself is very quiet inside. We all slept well, but as you might expect, the beds are more comfortable than the pullout sofas.
We enjoyed our weekend stay and would recommend the home to others. Thank you!
My family, friends and I stayed over for 3 nights during Labor Day weekend 2016, and we couldn't be happier with everything about the house. The photos do not do justice to this amazing property. The house is very well kept, spacious, clean, and had everything we needed. Bette was extremely nice and provided everything we needed from linens, pillows, blankets, towels and more. The kitchen is also well equipped. The backyard is absolutely amazing, there is so much room and the deck is wonderful for!!! I loved the fact that the water/river is only a few steps away past the backyard with good swimming holes to either side of the property only a short walk away. There are beautiful mountain views from the house and about a 10 minute drive to the Grafton Notch State park, with beautiful waterfalls to visit. I hope we can go back soon.
Thank you Bette :)
This property, with its 3 separate living units had all the amenities and layout listed, the location we desired. It accommodated 3 families (10 people total), including 4 kids under 6 years and our dog for a 10 day vacation/40th wedding anniversary celebration. Thank you Bette and Curt for being very welcoming and accommodating from our initial contact through the end of our stay. We thoroughly enjoyed the large grassy back yard and frontage on the Sunday River, and spent lots of time on the spacious rear deck relaxing and dining outdoors together. We also enjoyed visits to nearby Step Falls and Screw Auger Falls, Frenchman's Hole and the Artists Covered Bridge, Davis Park, and kayaking the Androscoggin River from Gilead to Mason's Landing.
The property was generally clean and basic maintenance taken care of. The section of Highway 2 the property fronts on does receive a good bit of heavy truck traffic/noise and warrants caution whenever entering/exiting the driveway. A number of minor maintenance needs required some minor adjustments during our stay, and are really the only things preventing giving this a 5-star rating for our stay.
I would recommend this property to friends or relatives to stay.
This is the second year in a row that we have rented this property in Bethel and Elizabeth is always very accommodating. The place is always clean and well organized and we have never had any issues with the property or the management. Great house on a great piece of property. We plan to be back next year.
We got an opportunity to spend 4 days at 690 Melville rd house. The facilities offered are fabulous and Elizabeth Is very much approachable and made sure that we are taken care well. The most valuable feature of this facility is the stream in the backyard. The kids loved it like anything.
I will definitely come back and stay here in the future.
Cultural and Historic village. Gorgeous Foliage! Surrounded by beautiful mountains in Western Maine, New Hampshire and attractions. A short drive from Mount Washington and Fryburg Fair.
